2 WI Adults Spring Break @ Disney A Mar '12 PTR *Update 3/12 We're Back!!*

What an awesome park bag! Love the interior design, and I love that the outside is very subtle. And it's the perfect size for the parks. :thumbsup2

Isn't writing about your last day on vacation so sad? It bums me out just thinking about it, but your plans still sound great. I love that you're picking up Early of Sanwich for the ride home. It's a great last "Disney meal."

Love your bag!!! I use a hipster pretty much every day actually, I love that it keeps my hands free. I was going to use my Vera hipster in the parks before Wingnut got me the Disney Dooney one for Christmas!

(Also, love your ring too! It's absolutely beautiful!)

Haha! I loved your Dooney! Wingnut did a great job. I was caught paroosing the Disney website and looking at Dooneys and was promptly reminded that I am going on 3 vacations this year, and that I better just close out the window. The man is right, what can I say.

Can you believe Adam designed that ring himself? All I told him was that I wanted an asscher cut center stone, he did the rest.

Yay!!! I am so glad you got it and you like it! :) It was super fun to make, and to be honest, I really love how your bag turned out... I fell in love with those interior fabrics. :)

D~

I love everything about it! Thank you so so much!

I looooooove sandwiches. Its almost an obsession really. I actually cancelled our 50s Prime Time reservation because they got rid of all the sandwiches on the menu.

:lmao: Don't worry, I would totally take 3 vacations over a Dooney any day!!!

(But not to be a bad influence....they are sold in lots of places around the parks too :rolleyes1)

He did a fantastic job designing your ring!! It really is so beautiful! :goodvibes

I LOVE your bag! I love the VB hipster, but there are very few prints that I end up liking enough to buy. The solid color will be so versatile! :thumbsup2

Haha! I definitely might have to save some souvie money just in case...you know...one of those bags falls into my basket and forces me to buy it.

Lets get back on track with this trip report from 1.5 years ago shall we? :rotfl:

When I last left off, we had just enjoyed an amazing meal (and cake!) at Wilderness Lodge...

Even though we were positively stuffed, duty called the next morning. And we were off to our breakfast ADR here...

The gorgeous Animal Kingdom Lodge. I hope to stay here one day, even if it is really out of the way from everything except...Animal Kingdom.

Here is an excerpt from our dining review about our breakfast at Boma.

So, our trip was winding down, but this morning we were off to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for a trip to Boma. Our VERY nice bus driver, drove us straight to the Lodge since we were the only brave souls headed to Animal Kingdom that early in the morning. This left us quite a bit of time to explore the resort. It is BEAUTIFUL, and if we ever have the money, you can bet that we will be staying here.

Anyway, on to the food. Sorry, no pics of the buffet again. But it was really yummy, and I like that it had different selections (all be it not as plentiful) from the Tusker House buffet. That mustard sauce they put on the ham? AMAZING!

Also, Boma gets props for being the only restaurant to acknowledge our anniversary, despite it being printed on every ticket at every restaurant. Perhaps they only acknowledge married person's anniversaries? :confused3 Anyhow, our waitress, Brenda, was very warm and friendly and very attentive. At the end of our meal she brought us this:

DisneyworldAugust2010-2571.jpg

It was more pretty than tasty, but was still a very nice touch. I wish I remembered what everything was, but did not take notes. The one all the way to the left was like a spiced jelly, almost like gum drop consistency. Next was some kind of cake that Adam was not nice enough to share, so it must have been good, Then a macaroon sort of thing, and lastly a truffle. The truffle was spiced, and creamy. Very good!

Total Cost of Meal: $40.45
Dining Credits Used: 2

After breakfast we bussed it on over to the Animal Kingdom park where we caught the very tail end of the opening ceremony.

So, when we last left off we had just enjoyed our first safari of the morning...

So we decided we would wander about for awhile.

I love all the flashbacks Jess! We have yet to see D'Vine, but I really want to try to find her while we are there this time. :)

We just happened to wander by and notice her. It was amazing how many people just walked right on by and didn't even realzie she was there.

Then I decided that we had to ride Expedition Everest one more time.

Pretty prayer flags..

After we rode Expedition Everest...the weather once again looked like it was going to turn south...

DSC00946.jpg

But we (I) decided that we wanted to ride the safari one last time since it was our last day in Animal Kingdom.

Awww...Mommy and baby.
DSC00973.jpg

As you can see...the weather was just messing with us.

DSC00977.jpg

I decided before we left that I wanted to visit Rafiki's Planet Watch
DSC00979.jpg

DSC00980.jpg

Then it was finally time to go and get ready for our dinner at Jiko...
So, Jiko marked our last "Signature" restaurant of the trip (I don't count Cinderella's as Signature, even if it is 2 credits).

We left Animal Kingdom early in the afternoon to take a nap and spend some time in the pool before our 8 PM reservation.

We really really liked Jiko, loved in fact. When we were first sat they put us right next to a large party of about 15, it wasn't that they were doing anything wrong per say, but were SUPER loud, because there were 15 of them. Not quite the romantic meal I had envisioned. I found it strange they would put us RIGHT there, when the restaurant was about half empty. We asked our waiter if we could be moved, and he granted our request.

Before we get on with things, a picture of the happy couple:

So, now we could enjoy our food:

DisneyworldAugust2010-2596.jpg

Taste of Africa - Trio of Dips with Assorted Breads and House-made Naan $9.00

YUMMY! Really, I didn't need the bread, a spoon and the sauces would have been fine. The most AMAZING hummus, and trust me, I've sampled my fair share of hummus in my life.

Adam again, could not help himself and ordered this:

DisneyworldAugust2010-2597.jpg

Another Tomato/Balsamic salad. I don't see this on the online menu any longer, but the receipt tells me it was $14. As per usual, anything with tomatoes, got a big thumbs up from the old ball and chain.

For entrees, I of course had to sample the DIS famous

DisneyworldAugust2010-2605.jpg

Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon - with Macaroni & Cheese and Red Wine Sauce $41

Oh yum. Yum, yum, yum. My beef was cooked perfectly. A gorgeous medium rare. The macaroni though, stole the show. Tender, creamy, with just enough zip to kee you enertained. I could have made a meal out of the mac. And the red wine sauce? Delish!

Adam is weird, and doesn't like to order the same thing as me, like ever. So, even though he really wanted the filet, he got this:

DisneyworldAugust2010-2599.jpg

Maize-crusted Halibut - with Vegetables of the Moment and Tomato-Butter Sauce $38.00

Now, in Wisconsin, one doesn't come by much fish that isn't beer battered in restaurants. Its definitely possible to find it if you look. The corn crust on this was INCREDIBLE. So much so I let him have some of my steak in order to have more of his fish. In our house, no one ever trades steak away in order to get fish, but it was really that good.

Now, on to dessert. I have to say, I was really ticked they pulled the pistachio creme brulee off the menu while we were there. More ticked that we had already left when it happened, so I was completely unprepared for the shock when I read the menu. There were almost tears. Really nothing appealed to me, but eventually I settled on this:

DisneyworldAugust2010-2619.jpg

It was Tanzanian Chocolate something, and quite un remarkable. Maybe I was still salty over the fact there was no pistachio creme brulee. But I had two bites and was quite bored with this. Not even the layering of textures in this dessert was enough to cheer me up.

Adam had this:

DisneyworldAugust2010-2649.jpg

A lemon cheesecake with blueberry sauce. (See Jessica, this is what happens when you wait so long to write your reviews, the menus change).
Anyhow, this was quite tasty and well paired with the blueberry sauce. I wish I would have gotten this, as I would have been in a better mood.

Total Cost of Meal: $133.85
Dining Credits Used: 4

Side Note: Before heading back to the bus, we stopped by the Mara for some Zebra domes. Now THOSE little babies put me in a great mood.

Well...tonight Adam got back from a weekend of fishing, so I thought it would be perfect to have our resort theme night. Netflix sent us Modern Marvels...and I was actually really surprised at how good it was. Adam has declared it the best Disney movie ever made. :rotfl: Him being a construction guy, he really enjoyed this as he was able to learn a lot about how Disney World was constructed. He also got a sneak preview of the utilidors that we will see on our Keys To The Kingdom Tour. Since we are staying at Coronado, I went with a Mexican theme for the meal.

I re-used the plastic plates that we had used for our Aladdin theme night.

DSCN0177.jpg

Chicken fajitas with sauteed veggies.

I used corn tortillas with these, and I hated them. I am definitely a flour tortilla kind of girl, even though the flour kind provide absolutely no semblance of nutritional value. I will definitely be switching back for next time.

And for our grown up beverage...
DSCN0179.jpg

Skinnygirl Margs. Oh my goodness. These suckers are strong! I had to dilute this down with an entire can of diet sierra mist, and I enjoy my tequila! I am just thankful I can type this post up after drinking a glass!

I've never seen Modern Marvels, but it seems like something to definitely check out!

Ugh, I'm not a fan of corn tortillas either. That's what they use at La Hacienda (not sure if you're going there, but just some forewarning if you are!), where DBF actually enjoyed them, but I just wanted my boring flour tortillas!

I can't remember for certain, but I am pretty sure when we ate at San Angel Inn on our last trip the ribeye tacos I had were flour tortillas. I don't know what it is, but tacos are just not the same without delicious, gluteny carbolicious FLOUR tortillas. Authentic or not authentic, I don't care.

We aren't eating at La Hacienda this time around. I think it is a little too authentic for Adam's taste. But he did enjoy the food at San Angel Inn when we were there last, as did I.

Modern Marvels is definitely worth a watch, unless you are the "The magic would be ruined if I knew how they did that!" types (I don't think you are.) It is a bit dated, I think the most recent reference in it was 2006. And it was a pretty good length. It must have been a 2 hour run on TV, it was just over an hour and 30 minutes after they cut the commercials out. I will definitely be looking for more shows like this!

Your tacos look good! I used to be a strictly flour tortilla girl, but I've recently been converted. Miguel will not eat flour tortillas, and he's really turned me on to corn tortillas. Now, I love them! :confused3

I think they are an acquired taste, I just haven't acquired it yet. I think its because they look quite deceptive. They don't look that different from flour tortillas...so you trick yourself into thinking it will be flour, and then it isnt. Maybe if they start to make small taco sized whole wheat tortillas instead of the really big ones they make now I will be a happy lady.

So, this morning when I logged into the Disney site (a now daily stalking obsession) Donald Duck kindly reminded me that we have only 32 days until we leave! And since I will technically be going "off the grid" in 31 days, I figured why not begin the 30 Day Parks Challenge I found online. I invite all of you to join along in the fun!

So...Day 1 is....

Your Favorite Park.

This is a question much easier asked than answered.

I love Magic Kingdom because it evokes such nostalgia. But, I think I am partial to Disneyland over Magic Kingdom.

I love Epcot because...well, its so obvious. Food, and drinks...all around the world. But, the only ride I really truly enjoy here is Soarin.

I adore Animal Kingdom because it is such a unique experience. I don't really think of myself as an "animal" person, but I could ride Kilimanjaro Safari all day long. I also love the Lion King show (for the record, when I was living in New York, my mom came to visit me for Thanksgiving. She forced me to go see The Lion King on Broadway since it was "right there!" (by my apartment.) I tried to remind her that all of the shows were "right there!" since I lived on 42nd street, right between 9th and 10th Avenues. Literally "right there". She insisted, and so we went and saw. So. Lame. Maybe it was an off night, maybe my expectations were too high. Either way, it was one of only two shows I went to where no one in the audience stood up at the end, and it was a full house. Very disappointing. Thankfully, I will always (or at least better always have) the one at Disney World to look forward to.

So, what park does that leave?

It was really surprising to me, but after much deliberation, my favorite park is Hollywood Studios. :wizard:

Being the thrill ride junkie that I am, this park offers my favorite ride, Tower of Terror. I also am now obsessed with Rock n' Roller Coaster, and a sucker for The Great Movie Ride. And I know a lot of people knock the park for its dining (or lack there of) but we actually had very enjoyable meals here, so I guess its the potato, potato thing...

So tell me, what is your favorite park?

Oooo! I like this! Can I steal it? :confused3

Anyway, love your descriptions! I'm with you on DHS. I think it's a toss up between DHS and EP for my favorites, but more towards DHS. However, I am signing you up to take my DD on ToT. :scared1: I've had to ride it the past two years, and it's not a pleasant experience. (I'm the crying mom in line -- the one where people are telling DD to escort me to the chicken exit and she stands firmly that she'll make her mom ride, no one can tell her what kind of child she should be. :rotfl2::lmao:) No, seriously, I'm a thrill junkie, but I can't do elevator-drops. Granted, I can't do the Dr. Doom Fear Fall at USO either. :scared1: I was not designed to be a yo-yo. But put me on a fast coaster, and I'm all WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Oh, back to the question ... Backlot Studio Tour is one of my favorite attractions. I love seeing movie nostalgia (Flight of the Navigator anyone?). And I love the Citizens of Hollywood! Plus, it has RnRC. You can't beat a quick launch! And honestly, I don't think DHS had any less dining options that MK. :confused3 I absolutely love Sci Fi and 50s PTC. The food at 50s .... YUM! I think it's the meal I'm most looking forward to! :woohoo:

Okay, next question! popcorn::

I Looooooooove the backlot tour, but it is CLOSED when we are going! I was going to include it in an upcoming post but here works too. Last year Toy Story Midway Mania was closed for our entire trip, and this year it is the Backlot Tour...oh and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We can't win I guess!

And feel free to use the Challenge as well! I always see people doing them on Facebook, so googled 30 Day Disney challenge and a bunch came up! Have fun!

I don't recall what was closed last year ... but it wasn't anything major, so we didn't stress too much. But I'm VERY upset over BLST and BTMRR! And did you see Liberty boat is closed as well? :headache: Not to mention they extended Dumbo, but can't recall how long you're staying .... so it may not affect you. I'm beginning to wonder if we'll get to do anything at this rate of closures. :sad2:

Well, if you don't mind, I'm totally going to steal your idea. :thumbsup2
