2 WI Adults Spring Break @ Disney A Mar '12 PTR *Update 3/12 We're Back!!*

I started this reply last night, but I found I had much more to say than what I had time for - so I continued it this morning. :rotfl2:

First things first. Today I made the final payment on our trip!! I was a full two weeks early, so I'm quite proud of myself for that.

WOOHOO!!!

Awesome!! I am really close to making my final payment, but I am probably going to drag it out, since I am a tightwad, I like to hang on to my $$ as long as possible - even if it's inevitable that I give it up. :confused3

1. Find and purchase a new park bag.

I love park bag shopping! :lovestruc

2. Purchase a new memory card for fancy pantsy new camera.

Very important... Just don't "format" it on vacation - even if it asks you... You will LOSE everything and very rarely is it ever recoverable.

3. Purchase rechargeable batteries and battery charger for fancy pantsy new camera.

Better get extra... I had 3 lith-ion batteries with me on the last trip, and ran out half way through our MGM day (I think my charger was having issues that day)

4. Find and purchase new park sandals. Maybe Teva Mush. I had to resort to tennis shoes last time. Practical, but not fashionable. Why can't I have both?

Oooh another topic on my obsessive list... What's really sad is that I have a photo of mine in my PB account because I love them so much... My latest purchase, Keens:

71-7StARn7L__SL1500_.jpg

I was able to get them in Donald Duck coordinating colors, and I was thrilled!

I am also brining my Merrells, my Mizuno tennis shoes, my Orthaheels flip flops (my favs), and I am hoping to purchase these bad boys for our AK day - I just :lovestruc them:

ALG-FEL-420_02.jpg

I am such a shoe freak... but I have horrible problem feet - so I can't wear cheap shoes. And I can't wear the majority of the expensive ones either.

So, there's my recommendations - whether you wanted my opinion or not. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

5. Find a way to break in new park sandals in the Wisconsin winter.

This is a valid concern... I've been wearing mine to work - because the Keens have the covered toe - they are work acceptable. :thumbsup2 I wear all my new shoes every where... shopping, work, around the house, working out - any opportunity, I am wearing them.

Considering we are having a very *nice* winter... My toes haven't frozen yet. :thumbsup2

6. Get shorts and tank tops out of storage early!

I've started doing this, as well. Hopefully, I will fit into the ones I've taken out. :rolleyes1

7. Make parking reservation at Pride Parking at O'hare.
8. Make park binder to house all of our confirmations, ADR's and schedules.

Check out the Mini-planner in my PTR... (Original idea by Poisonapple Princess)... You don't have to go all out like I did - but I really love the compactness of it. :thumbsup2

9. Create and print Ridemax itineraries.
10. Place order for Garden Grocer
11. Order Photopass CD.

There is a Photopass share for March Disers on the FB page... PM me if you are interested and want the link for signing up. :thumbsup2

12. Order something for Adam from Disney Florist.

Awww....

13. Book Keys to the Kingdom Tour

I want to do this someday...

14. Purchase rain ponchos and remember to pack them this time.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to get 2 more... :thumbsup2

15. Finish Pre Trip Report and Pre Dining Report.
16. Purchase travel size toiletries.

I need a few more of these too... Not many though.

Yikes!! :scared1: Thats still a lot to do! But, it is winter, and winter is boring, so I know I can get it all done!

You'll be fine... You are already ahead of the game. :wizard:

D~

And if you're too old for Spring Break ... then I must be a a geezer!

And, you expected me not to comment on this???

D~ <--- Frantically searching for Duck tape... I've never had to use it on myself before. :confused3

I'm here, I'm here! :yay:

And if you're too old for Spring Break ... then I must be a a geezer! :lmao::rotfl2:

Loving the plans and theme nights! Waiting for more! popcorn::

Haha, it started out with me saying something like "YES!! We can drink our way around the world just like in Cancun!"

And Adam said "Aren't you a little old for that?"

Since we have both been out of school we have desperately tried to AVOID school holiday times since we have no children of our own, and since our work schedule allows us to for the most part, go when we want. However, with my new role, September - Midway through February is now off limits, at least for now. So, we ended up with March, and Spring break, and all of that fun that goes along with it.

Okay D ... I'm either too old or not old enough. I don't get it. :confused3

It just reminds me of Phineas and Ferb ... "Aren't you boys a little young to be _____?" :lmao:

I have kids ... but their Spring Break is not the same as mine (yep, back in college). So we're going on MY Spring Break. :thumbsup2 It is better for them to miss days than me. I can at least teach them what they miss, they can't teach me what I miss ... so it doesn't work out so well. :lmao: And I have two Accounting classes this semester ... I really can't get behind. :sad2:

So if I can have a Spring Break (and be old), you can have a Spring Break (while you're still young). :thumbsup2 :lmao::rotfl2:

I am usually the same way. The money has been in our account for months, but for some reason I just couldn't part with it. :rotfl: Then I got it in my head that if I paid sooner, I would get my Mickey Mail sooner. It does not, for the record, make your Mickey Mail arrive any sooner. So...we wait.

Very important... Just don't "format" it on vacation - even if it asks you... You will LOSE everything and very rarely is it ever recoverable.

Thanks! I am so fearful of losing pictures in general, I never ever erase memory cards, I just buy a new one every time that the last one is full. So I just have a whole drawer full of memory cards.:rolleyes1

Better get extra... I had 3 lith-ion batteries with me on the last trip, and ran out half way through our MGM day (I think my charger was having issues that day)

My new camera is the first one I have had in years that takes actual batteries. Very old school I think, so I will just need to bring lots and lots of rechargeable AAs with me.

Oooh another topic on my obsessive list... What's really sad is that I have a photo of mine in my PB account because I love them so much... My latest purchase, Keens:

So, there's my recommendations - whether you wanted my opinion or not. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

I am also an obsessive shoe buyer. Usually of the high heeled variety though, which obviously are so not a good choice for Disney. Tomorrow I have no plans, so I plan to go to Scheel's by us and check out the Tevas.

This is a valid concern... I've been wearing mine to work - because the Keens have the covered toe - they are work acceptable. :thumbsup2 I wear all my new shoes every where... shopping, work, around the house, working out - any opportunity, I am wearing them.

Us too! High of 45 today, it was amazing!

Ditto!

Thanks! I usually just have a binder that I bring with all of our printed confirmations inside. Then I make a sheet for each day, Dining and any other reservations on one side, Ridemax itineraries on the other side.

There is a Photopass share for March Disers on the FB page... PM me if you are interested and want the link for signing up. :thumbsup2

Thanks! What a great tip.

Haha, nothing fru fru though. They have a Pirates package with beer and a pirate hat, and it all comes in a collapsible cooler. Awesome!

I want to do this someday...

It wasn't something that really piqued my interest, however Adam has mentioned several times that he really wants to see the Utilidors, so now is as good a time as any.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to get 2 more... :thumbsup2

Just don't forget to pack them! I forgot to grab them last time...and as a result...this happened:

DSC00151.jpg

On our first night we got stuck in a torrential downpour while in Downtown Disney. So we had to burn almost $30 bucks on 2 ponchos. And, by the time I got to a store to buy a poncho, I was already soaked any way.

I need a few more of these too... Not many though.

Target!

You'll be fine... You are already ahead of the game. :wizard:

Thanks!

Okay D ... I'm either too old or not old enough. I don't get it. :confused3

Deal!

Day 6 has us headed back to the Magic Kingdom.

Right now I do have a reservation at 1900 Park Fare for 8:15, but I am considering cancelling it. Mainly because I want to do the Keys to the Kingdom Tour on this day, and the latest time slot for that is at 9:30, I don't think thats enough time for us to make it back to Magic Kingdom and get through security, lines, etc. We may try and do Grand Floridian Cafe or Kona Cafe, both were excellent on our last trip. Or, we may just skip breakfast all together since lunch is served pretty early on in the tour.

After the tour we will probably head over to Tomorrowland and ride Space Mountain, and spend a good bit of time shopping.

Then we are going to have dinner at Narcoossee's. I am still debating whether or not to change this one of the new Signature restaurants on the Dining Plan. Oh decisions...decisions. :rolleyes1

Up Next: Flashback: Day 6 of 2010 Trip

Day 6 was a sleep in late day for us . We originally had a 7:30 AM reservation at Grand Floridian Cafe, but we changed that to 9AM.

We made our way to the Grand Floridian from Pop via a bus ride to Magic Kingdom and a Monorail Ride over to the Grand Floridian. I love the lobby here!

DSC00668.jpg

And here is a bit about our meal...

So, this marked the very first (and only) time that we didn't make rope drop in the morning. However, this was our 2nd of 3 days at Epcot, and honestly, I just didn't see the need. We (Adam) had an unfortunate experience on the GREEN version of Mission Space the first day, so I will never be able to get him to ride that again and the other rides were just so so for us, so need to rush first thing in the morning to see them all again. Anyways, on to the FOOD!

We originally had 7AM reservations at GFC :scared1:. I called the night before and had them moved to 9AM without any problems. It also gave us lots of time to explore the Grand. What a beautiful property!

Bear with me today as well, I don't have my receipts with me so will come back in to add that info later on.

So, for breakfast, Adam had:
DisneyworldAugust2010-2489.jpg

Eggs Benedict - Two Poached Eggs on a Toasted English Muffin with Canadian Bacon and Hollandaise Sauce served with Asparagus $10.99

I had originally booked here for the lobster eggs benedict, which at the time of reservation, was made with just lobster. They had since changed it to a bread pudding, which our waitress told us had not gotten rave reviews.

This was average and really nothing special about it, except it comes with asparagus. I don't know, I really love asparagus, but its just not a breakfast food.

I had
DisneyworldAugust2010-2490.jpg

Maple-Vanilla French Toast - Challah Bread dipped in Maple and Vanilla flavored Batter with Bacon or Sausage $10.99

It was french toast. But again, nothing all that special. And I was miffed that I asked to sub some type of fruit instead of the breakfast meats, and was de-NIED. Kind of annoying.

Overall, from food to service, we felt impartial. Nothing was outstanding. Nothing was terrible. :confused3 That being said, was it worth a bus ride and a monorail trip from the Pop? You bet not.

Then we took the monorail over to Epcot!

DSC00672.jpg

As soon as we entered the park, we spied Adam's favorite character, Stitch, so we had to go over and say hello!

DSC00675.jpg

It was still pretty early, but we decided to check out World Showcase.

Our Canadian neighbors to the North...

Then we found England...

And found France...

And then to Morocco!

Up Next: Lunch at Tutto and Tequila!

We were just going through Morocco when I left off.

We found our way to Italy finally...

DSC00723.jpg

Check out that awesome weather! :confused3

And if it feels like we had just eaten...its because we had. About 4 and a half hours earlier. :rotfl: But it was time to eat again, and I was up for the challenge!

We had lunch at Tutto Italia...

So, now we will go head to head with Via Napoli. I loooooooooooooooove Italian food, so rather than trying to decide, we booked both.

First, what is UP with the olives here? They are delicious, but I don't understand why you would serve unpitted olives and not have a place to put the pits? I had to hide mine behind my water glass until she brought plates out about when our app was delivered. Was it server error or is this how it always is?

So, after learning from our experience at Via we SHARED this:
DisneyworldAugust2010-2531.jpg

Antipasto Misto - generous platter of appetizers and Italian specialties, serves two $25

A DELICIOUS serving of cannelinni (spell check) beans, prosciutto, salamis, artichokes, mushrooms, peppers, mozzarella, asiago, parmesan and bleu cheeses. And I am sure I forgot a few things. I made myself little sandwiches on the thing slices of Italian bread, and was in heaven. Thank GOD we shared this otherwise would have done me in.

On to Entree's.

I went with this:
DisneyworldAugust2010-2533.jpg

Gnocchi Verdi Grataniti - baked spinach potato gnocchi, fontina, parmesan, mozzarella, gorgonzola $21

I will never be able to order Gnocchi anywhere else ever again. The Gnocchi I have always had was very dense and heavy. These Gnocchi were light as air, but the sauce was incredibly rich. It had a lovely "bite" to it though from the Gorgonzola. Even though, it was too much for me to finish, even when portioned for a lunch size.

Adam, feeling pretty overwhelmed from the app, had this minus the grilled chicken:
DisneyworldAugust2010-2534.jpg

Insalata della Casa con Pollo - chopped grilled chicken with salad greens, tomatoes, beans, olives and citrus dressing $19

This was very light and refreshing and another MASSIVE portion, particularly for a salad.

And on to dessert:

I had this:
DisneyworldAugust2010-2536.jpg

Its no longer on the menu, but was listed as a Panna Cotta. Now, Panna Cotta is supposed to be firm, but still slightly wobbly. That way when you eat it, its just is soft and luscious and melts in your mouth. This was as firm as could be, almost the consistency of sorbet. However, the flavor was very good, and the mixed berry sauce matched nicely with it.

Adam had this:
DisneyworldAugust2010-2535.jpg

Gianduja - Chocolate Torta - chocolate and hazelnut torte with whipped cream and raspberry sauce $10

Delicious, however I really could not taste any hazelnut in it, which was disappointing because it is one of my favorites.

So overall, I just don't think you can compare Via Napoli and Tutto Italia, they are very very different.

Via Napoli is bright and vibrant, and the star is pizza. Tutto is dark and subdued, and focuses on pasta dishes. I would return to either.

After we had an AMAZING meal at Tutto, I decided that I needed (ok, wanted...) a treat from La Cava.

DSC00724.jpg

This was the blood orange and it was soooooooo good! If you appreciate good tequila, you would enjoy this, and considering it was a scratch margarita, it was well worth the price!

After this it of course started raining, so on went the ponchos and off we went back to our hotel.

Things did dry up in the evening, enough for us to head back over for our dinner reservation at Le Cellier.

DSC00732.jpg

DSC00733.jpg

So, next up on our culinary journey was a trip to Le Cellier. Adam was very excited, because of course, they are all about the steaks here. I was shocked that with a 6:30 PM reservation, we were seated right away. Our server was Jill, and she was AWESOME!! We really liked the youthful atmosphere with the waitstaff here. Jill was very attentive, but not intrusive, super friendly, and very knowledgable about the food here. Over the course of our whole trip, Jill got the highest tip % wise.

Anyhow, on to the food!

For beverages, I went with a smoothie, the Red Maple.
Red Maple - Raspberry smoothie with a splash of Sprite $4.29
Yummy, and refreshing!

Adam had...milk. Exciting!

The apps here didn't appeal to either of us all that much. We've had countless of varieties of beer/cheese soup at home, so while it wouldn't normally be something we would order we decided to give it a try.

No picture of the beer cheese soup here. However, in Wisconsin, we know our beer and we certainly know our cheese, and this stuff was pretty awesome. Jill recommended the Pretzel bread to go with it, and oh my! I have been trying to replicate the recipe of pretzel bread ever since.

Being the huge mushroom lover that I am, I had to go with the filet with mushroom risotto.

DisneyworldAugust2010-2543.jpg

Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - with wild mushroom risotto, white truffle and herb butter sauce $34.99

Yuummmmmmmmmmy. This did not disappoint! It was cooked a perfect medium rare, the mushroom risotto was flavorful and tender. I could have licked my bowl, but didn't.

Adam went with the New York Strip.

DisneyworldAugust2010-2545.jpg

New York Strip Steak - topped with bercy butter and served with Gruyere Yukon Gold Potato Gratin $34.99

The steak was well seasoned and properly cooked. He wished he would have asked to sub the potato gratin with my risotto as it was pretty flavorless.

Dessert was another thing that really didn't sound all that appealing for me. I'm not a fan of creme brulee because I don't like the taste of burned sugar, however I love all things maple, so I asked Jill if there was any way I could have just the creme, no brulee.

DisneyworldAugust2010-2548.jpg

Maple Creme Brulee $6.99

...and of course she delivered! Delicious custard, very creamy.

Adam, also bored with the dessert options, decided to have some fun instead and got this:

DisneyworldAugust2010-2547.jpg

Chocolate "Moose" - Chocolate Mousse rolled in Toasted Chocolate Crumbs with Maple Leaf Antlers $5.99

Final thoughts...we would consider going back again to Le Cellier. Whether or not would depend on if they added anything more exciting to the menu. If not, we would probably go back just for steaks and not use any dining plan credits.

Again, can't say enough nice things about Jill, she really made our night!

Total Cost of Meal: $109.19
Total Credits Used: 2

We didn't stay for Illuminations this night, so after dinner I shopped for a bit and we headed home.

Well, Adam FINALLY left the house this afternoon! He went to go see his sister in Milwaukee for a belated Christmas, I on the other hand spent the entire morning at the wedding expo sampling cakes and food all morning. Poor me. I know. But since Adam works in town most of the time, he always beats me home, since I have about a 45 minute commute. And since our highway is crazy, I haven't yet chanced phoning Disney while driving. Anyhow, he was still gone when I got home, so I took the opportunity to call Disney Tours and inquire as to what they had available.

I was very surprised that being so close to our trip, I had my choice of any of the tour for the day that I wanted. There were a few different days this could have been accomplished, but I decided to go with Sunday March 4th, which is our first full day in the parks. We are having breakfast at the Crystal Palace already that morning so I picked the 9:30 AM tour.

Since lunch is included with the tour, I will just move our Grand Floridian Cafe lunch to our departure day on Saturday since we leave so late in the day. No problems here!

Your food pics of Tutto Italia makes me really want to book an ADR. Ugh, so delicious looking! The appetizer alone looked worth weeding into my ADRs. :lmao:

Where is La Cava? The blood orange beverage looked wonderful! Each year I say I'll have an adult beverage or two on vacation ... and I always back out. However, this is the year. I just feel it. :rotfl2:

Tutto was an awesome meal and that appetizer was HUGE! To compare, the one I ordered from Mama Melrose was also supposed to be for two, and was about 1/3 of the size! And it was really really delicous!

La Cava is (or at least was) in the Mexico pavillion. Head towards the right when you get inside, if you get to the podium for San Angel Inn you went too far. The blood orange is awesome. I am not a fan overly sweet drinks, this one is a perfect combination of sweet/sour! I want to say it was about $16 for it, but I could be wrong. It was expensive, but it was soooo worth it! And since it is an adult spring break too, I think you are entitled!

I'm just not much of a drinker (and a light-weight) ... and I'm cheap. I saw the drinks at the bar at the pool last year and opted to pass.

However, I'll have a bit more money in my pocket this trip -- all for myself, and after I buy a D&B purse and some other much pined for souvs, I'm getting some alcohol! I know my friends wanted to drink around the world last year ... but I chickened out. However, I have to at least have one adult beverage Disney style this year. I just have to, ya know? :confused3

Now that I am over the sticker shock, I will try to remember stopping by for it! :goodvibes (Can it be gotten in a to-go cup so I can walk around exploring with it?)

I am not for certain, but I am fairly sure I have seen pictures of people with them in "to go" cups...hopefully someone else can weigh in here and confirm/deny that.

Tonight was supposed to have been our Monsters Inc theme night, but I didn't feel like having what I planned for that meal. Since it was Sunday, I decided to make something a little more involved.

So I decided we would have Lady and the Tramp instead. I have actually never seen Lady and the Tramp. I know, thats really sad. But hey, first time for everything!!

We had homemade artichoke dip, italian bread, spaghetti with meatballs, and a chocolate dessert.

LadyandTheTramp001.jpg

Here's our table setting.

LadyandTheTramp005.jpg

Since I'm from Asheville, NC originally, I thought a nice bottle of Biltmore wine would be appropriate.

LadyandTheTramp006.jpg

Homemade artichoke dip.

LadyandTheTramp007.jpg

Homemade meatballs. I used Grandma's recipe, but substituted ground turkey instead of veal. Hopefully Grandma hasn't learned how to read a message board up in heaven, otherwise she is having a fit. I honestly couldn't taste the difference between mine with turkey and how she made hers, with veal. :confused3 Sorry Grandma.

LadyandTheTramp009.jpg

On the plate.

LadyandTheTramp008.jpg

Dessert experiment. It was going to be a chocolate chai "gelatto", however I wasn't patient enough to let it freeze all the way through, so it was just regular chocolate pudding, but instead of using just milk, I used a 50/50 mix of milk and chai latte mix. I was really pleased with the result!

Yay for getting KTTK booked! We went with the 9:30 time slot, too. :thumbsup2

Your Lady and the Tramp meal looks so yummy! Don't feel bad that you hadn't seen the movie yet. I haven't, either! There are actually quite a few Disney movies that I haven't seen. :sad2:

Love the Lady and the Tramp themed meal. :)

I hadn't seen the movie either until we rented it the night before our first trip in 2003... I don't think I've seen it since either... I remember it being a cute movie though. :)

D~

I think that the 9:30 was the best option, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I would hate to miss out on it because we had to be in the park early.

D~

I realized once we started watching the movie, that I had actually seen it before, just had no memory of it, except for the "we are Siamese if you please..." little diddy, which is still stuck in my head. I must have been very young though because I don't remember anything else about the whole movie. It was very cute though, and I am glad we watched it!

March 10th is our last full park day. :sad1: We are headed back to Epcot. Can you believe that I didn't know it was the start of the Flower and Garden Festival? Now, I know nothing about flowers or plants. In fact I did manage to kill a cactus once. But they are very nice to look at.

We are going to have breakfast at Kouzzina. This was one of my favorite breakfasts from last trip, so I can't wait to check it out again. Then we will take the boat over to Epcot, Hit Soarin and Test Track. Then we will meander over the World Showcase and check out the pretty flowers. More snacking, more shopping.

We have a 1:00 PM reservation at Chefs de France. This was also a highlight from our last trip and I can't wait to get my hands on another one of those apple crepes.

Because I firmly believe that it is not possible to have too much food, I am considering having tea at Grand Floridian cafe. Wasn't something I was necessarily considering at first, but it looks like it is a lot of fun, and will be a nice way to relax on our last afternoon in the parks.

After tea, if we decide to do it, it will be back to Epcot, where we have a dinner at Coral Reef planned. I am a little nervous about this one because it always gets mixed reviews, but I am willing to give anything a try once. Then its time for our last Illuminations of our trip.

I was actually considering taking High Tea at the GF myself ... but I can't figure out when I'd do it. :guilty: It looks like a lot of fun, and I thought I'd bring DD. It would be some nice, fun mommy-daughter time. Especially if we dressed up real nice. :lovestruc

Your plans look good! I'm excited for F&G! I think it was our May trip ... we arrived the day after it ended. I was bummed. (But we couldn't change dates due to a wedding.) So I'm excited to see F&G this year! :goodvibes
