:wave2: Hi there! Thanks for stopping by to say hello! Feel free to join in more often!

I've only stayed in Cabanas 8A and it's a great location for us! We like to go to the main pool and it's steps away. Since I live in Orlando and have a car, our room is steps from the parking lot and it's also right beside a bus stop! To get to the lobby, we either drive or walk across the bridge that goes down the middle from the main pool to the lobby and it's a quick 5 min walk.

When I moved to Orlando this summer, we stayed there for a few nights and used the bus once but used the food court a ton and didn't mind the walk. For us, we'd rather be steps away from the pool, parking lot, and bus!

All reserved rooms in Cabanas are either 9A or 9B I think which is even closer to the lobby than 8A.

Well, I did it. I couldn't help myself. It had to be done. The temptation was just too great.

If you remember awhile back, I had mentioned that we were considering several different restaurants now that they added so many new places on the dining plan for next year.

So, out went our ADR at Yachtsman Steakhouse. And in came Wolfgang Puck - The Dining Room. I could not resist the allure of their very yummy sounding sushi options. They also have a Lobster Risotto on the menu that sounds to die for.

Can't wait to try out something new, and hopefully we are there early enough that they won't have watered down the menu too much for the dining plan.

I just found your Trip Report. Can't wait to read more! What time is your Ohana reservation? We've eaten their many times and if you get there early and ask for a Magic Kingdom view, majority of the time you'll get it. We've eaten there several times, where we had the opportunity to watch the Fireworks from our chairs. They pump in the music for the Fireworks as well. It's very nice!

Hello! I am using your trip report as a halfway point for me. In three short months, you will be headed to the magic, and then three more (well probably four), I'll be headed back. Your months are going to fly by!!!

Santa did a great job! Adorable polka dots!

I think the plan to do breakfast at Wilderness then hit HS might be a recipe for disaster with Toy Story esp with potential crowds. I have a suggestion...(take or leave) Go to HS at rope drop, then head to Cape May Cafe for a late breakfast, then you can head back to HS (or if you have park hoppers - stroll to Epcot)... It is a mile walk to BC (15 min stroll) or you can take the boat (slightly longer, but enjoyable.) Otherwise, you could eat at Starring Rolls after doing TS, RNR, and TOT...

I love your themed dinners and movie nights. We did movie nights last summer, with treats, not themes... It was a great way to get ready for the trip!

I forgot; we stayed in 8B of the Cabanas. The location was perfect!!! There was a nearby bus stop, but the main building was close. One morning we saw the bus leave our bus stop, so we ran to the main bus stop and caught it there.

Thanks for your help! I wasn't concerned with distance so much when I booked as I was about the theming. I just prefere the theming in Casitas a great deal more than I do in the other sections. We won't be using the Pepper Market or any other restaurants while we are there, just to refill our drink mugs every so often. We had planned to go to Maya Grill for breakfast at least once while we were there, but not sure we will be able to with the new "trial" that is taking place.

Thanks for the tip and thanks for saying hi! We will be there about 6:30 so hopefully won't still be there for wishes. I like to watch from the parks.

Hi Debby! I can't believe how quickly time has flown by for me! It helped that I was in New York for the first 4 months that we were booked. I think thats a good solution to the Disney Blues. Stick me away in Manhattan for a few months, there is a lot to keep one occupied and distracted with. :rotfl:

I am going to go a little off course here, but it does tie in to the trip, I promise.

So, in high school and college, I was always the stick thin girl. In college, I was that freak of nature that didn't gain an ounce. I ate whatever the heck I wanted whenever the heck I wanted to eat it. Family always warned me "One day that is going to catch up with you." I always laughed it off and said "Yes, but that day is not today."

Well, that day is now. Or technically, about 2 years ago. I could go on and on about how the pressures and demands of my job after college caused me to gain 35 pounds in 2 years, but the fact of the matter is I ate horrendously and exercised very little for 2 years.

I thought that moving to New York would give me a jump start, having to walk everywhere I went, but I indulged by eating out 3 meals a day while I was there. So, thats where the last 7 pounds of my weight gain came from.

Now, I have never been one to believe in New Years Resolutions. I believe in intentions. So, this year I intend to lose 16 pounds by the time we leave for Florida. That is about 2 pounds per week over the next 8 weeks. Since I have been back from New York, and even with the holidays, I am down 5 pounds, so all together that would be a loss of about 21 pounds, which is my final goal weight.

I also didn't want to invest a lot of money in weight loss. Besides going to Disney, we are planning a wedding and plan to move into a larger home this summer. I want to have money leftover for more Disney when all is said and done, so why invest a ton in something that I have complete control over anyway?

What is the plan you ask? Well good old fashioned eating right and exercise! I don't believe in a magic fix for dieting, I have watched too many friends waste several Disney Trips worth of money on the latest miracle pill, or personal trainers.

I had originally planned to try Nutrisystem for 1 month, because I get a 15% discount with them through work. I just couldn't imagine spending $300 a month, and then still needing to go out and buy additional groceries. That was out right away.

I did invest in one thing. I have long been an admirer of Bethenny Frankel. Not only for her skill as a business woman, but also as someone who tells it like it is when it comes to diet and nutrition. We passed a copy of Naturally Thin around the office last year, and her entire philosophy around weight loss really struck a tone with me.

So, I invested a decent amount of money (about $100) in her SkinnyGirl Daily Cleanse, and SkinnyGirl Weight Management supplement, which is 1 months worth of both. It is just to get me started, and after that I am on my own!

I am not a person that likes to talk about dieting and eating very much, but I figured since I am posting about our trip, I might as well bore you with these details as well.

I am right there with ya... I am really trying to get healthy (again)... I was doing really well last fall, but then I had some health issues... so now I am back at it again (has nothing to do with New Years)... It's never easy to lose weight the right way, but I think as long as you eat right and live a healthy lifestyle - even if the scale never moves - you are doing the right thing.

I'll be cheering you on! :)

Sometimes I really wonder about myself. :confused3 It is as if I am incapable of just leaving well enough alone.

I got to reading over the menus at a few places this weekend. And then I went on a bit of an ADR changing binge.

The first victim was 50's Prime Time cafe. I really enjoyed my sandwich here last time. In fact, the only reason we were going to go again, was for the sandwiches. But now I see that the sandwiches are completely gone! Nothing sounded appealing to me here at all. Except for the seafood salad, which I had last time and was delicious. However, a seafood salad does not a 3 course meal make.

And Sci Fi was equally as disappointing.

And we already have a reservation at Brown Derby.

So...

I booked us at Mama Melrose.

Our experience here last time was unremarkable. Nothing was bad, but nothing was really knock you out of your socks fantastic. But after reviewing the online menus, it seems that there have been quite a few additions to the menu, so I think it is worth one more shot.

The next victim was the plaza restaurant. We had planned to go there for a quick lunch one day, and pay OOP. I love sandwiches. But...there are a lot more interesting sandwich choices at...Grand Floridian Cafe. And while we have been there for breakfast, we haven't for lunch, so I am very much looking forward to it. Buh-bye Plaza.

And last, but certainly not least, Liberty Tree Tavern. Again, its not that we had a bad experience here last time. It was just...non-whelming. So, we are going to try out Kona Cafe's lunch instead! On a side note - It is really a shame that they don't have the sushi bar open for lunch.

I am not a fan of doing the same park 2 days in a row. Not not not. Nope. Don't like it. However, in order for us to see Fantasmic and to not have to park hop and still try to avoid parks with Extra Magic Hours, it was necessary. So, for Day 5 it is back to Hollywood Studios. We don't have a whole lot planned for the day. No breakfast ADR. We will most definitely try out one of the restaurants at the resort. I am hoping that this will be the Maya Grill. Their breakfast menu always sounded soooooo good to me. We will see what happens with the "trial" they are running now. If not, we can always check out the Pepper Market or Cafe Rix.

Then we will make our way over to Hollywood Studios, hopefully a pretty leisurely day. Only thing planned is a lunch ADR at Brown Derby (Fantasmic package). And then of course, Fantasmic! We missed this on our last trip, and I have never seen it at Disneyland on my visits. I know. I know. Terrible. We will probably use all of the extra time to take in some of the many shows that are offered here. We also don't have a dinner ADR. I plan on having a dinner of snacks. :scared1: Very unlike me, but we wasted so many snack credits on our last trip, this will be a good way to use some up.

Your ADR changes are good :) I ate at Mama Melrose in mid Dec and it was very good!! I got some kind of pasta with chicken and cream sauce which was VERY GOOD!! I would have taken the rest home had it not been earlier in the night and hot outside!

Oh good to know thanks! I am kind of bummed about 50's, but at the same time, excited to give Mama's another try.

Day 5 was our very first day at Animal Kingdom, I really love this park, really, I do! But, it still is 4th in line amongst the other parks. Here is a little about our day...

We started out by taking the bus from Pop Century to Animal Kingdom, the bus was REALLY late. It didn't arrive until 7:15 (We were out there at 10 to 7) so I was nervous about making it in time. I had no idea how long it would take us to get there. But, as per usual, I was worrying about time for no reason.

Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day!

We had a few minutes wait before we were let in to the park. At Animal Kingdom (unlike Magic Kingdom) they did check to make sure we had a reservation and crossed us off a list before we were let in. We were in no hurry, so we (I) stopped for some pics.

All before we stopped off for our breakfast at Tusker House. Here is the snippet from the Dining Review.

We booked Tusker House for 2 reasons. 1) Because we got early entry into the park and 2) Because they have Daisy, who is one of my favorites.

So...I was really awful at taking pics at all the buffets. So those will have to do. I love love love the theming here. Really beautiful. And seriously, HUGE variety of options here. Cheese blintzes, carved ham, spiced corned beef hash, beef bobotie, Yam Casserole with coconut, cinnamon banana bread pudding. I loved this buffet because it was so unique. A lot of choices that weren't on any other buffets we went to, and none of them were too far off the beaten path that it would deter one from trying a bit of everything. Of course, there were the classic staples, waffles, eggs, and pastries for the less adventurous.

An excellent choice for breakfast if you are planning on going to the Animal Kingdom.

At rope drop, of course we headed straight for the safari!

Stay tuned...

So before the jump we were about to head off on our very first African safari...

We had hardly gotten started before we ran into this little guy...

It was a great safari!! I could ride this every day!

Up Next...A trip to Asia!

When I last left off we were just getting off our safari and were headed to Asia.

And then we headed to Kali River Rapids because it was HOT. I am usually not a fan of water rides (I have hair issues) but it was hot enough to convince me to go on. Of course, I got the wettest seat in the house. I swear everyone else was dry as a bone, and I was literally dripping when I got out.

We then went on the safari for a 2nd spin before lunch, but as soon as we pulled out of the station, my camera died. :confused3

So, here is a bit about the food from our trip to Yak and Yeti.

Ok, so as if it wasn't bad enough that I didn't take pictures at Tusker House, my camera died on Kilimanjaro Safari that morning, which is what happens when you forget to charge it.:sad2:

I again, really loved the theming of Yak and Yeti. However, I did not care for our table, which was upstairs, next to a window with an angled ceiling. It was very claustrophobic feeling, and I don't suffer from the condition. I made mental note for next trip that I would definitely be wanting to request 4 tops for our ADRs. The 2 tops are just too small and I like to kind of spread out. Anyhow...on to the food.

For apps, I had Seared Ahi Tuna - chilled, sesame-encrusted ahi tuna, wasabi aioli, and sweet chili slaw $10.99.

Delicious. Perfectly seared Ahi, and the wasabi aioli was AMAZING. So much so that I requested an extra side of it. I will also mention that this came out so fast, that the seared portion of the Ahi was still warm. The chili slaw was also delicious, and provided a nice crunch against the tuna. This was a really nice balance of hot and cold and crunch with the slaw. I wish I would have ordered a second helping of this for my entree instead of what I actually did order.

Adam had Pork Egg Rolls - chili plum dipping sauce $7.99.

These came out piping hot, and well drained so they weren't greasy. I don't think Adam will ever enjoy an egg roll at home in the same way.

For entree's we both had the Sweet and Sour Chicken - Tempura chicken , ginger, garlic, bell peppers, pineapple $17.49

I don't know why I was expecting this to be a culinary adventure. It was no better or worse than ordinary chinese food we would get at home, with the exception that it did have large pieces of bell peppers and pineapple, which was nice. It was just an average entree. It left me wanting something more, and I'm really not sure why it did. Sweet and sour chicken is as sweet and sour chicken does.

Dessert was another story.

Again, we both went with the same thing. Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle $7.99

Yum yum and yum. I fell in love with grilled pineapple when I ate it in Hawaii a few years ago. Delicious, although I do wish that they would put the grilled pineapple inside of the wonton. But, a nice solid dessert.

After lunch we left the park, since it was absolutely disgustingly hot outside. We went in the pool a bit, and then took a nap. Then it was time to get ready to go to our amazing and wonderful dinner at California Grill.

Here is the review from that meal.

I came to Cali Grill with ONE thing in mind. SUSHI! And it did not disappoint. On a past trip to Disneyland, I had the privilege of dining at Napa Rose. A girlfriend of mine went with me, and it was at the time, and is still to this day, the best meal I have ever had. I was hoping that this would maybe compare to it, and it just simply doesn't. While both focus on California cuisine, I quickly realized it was two very different types of California Cuisine. Napa Rose was much more like Artist Point was, so they really just don't compare.

Our server was Erika. Not sure what it was about her, but she really just rubbed me the wrong way from the get go. She just came off as very abrasive to me. She did however, make a very nice wine recommendation for me, so it temporarily earned her some points back.

Now, I will say that I completely understand that wine by the glass in a restaurant suffers from a severe severe price markup. But for the $16 I spent on one glass of Selbach Riesling, I could have bought an entire bottle of it at the wine shop in Germany, if I chipped in another $2 and the tax. And if you pour the bottle correctly, you should get a total of 4 glasses from it, etc, etc. Pointless rant now over. So, chalk it up to an inexperienced wine drinker, but I really felt kind of cheated by this. And of course, I didn't know this at the time, so it did not detract from my enjoyment of the meal.

So, on to the actual food.

For apps, Adam had Hearts of Romaine - with Roasted Garlic Dressing, Marinated Anchovies, Olives, Aged Parmesan, and Croutons $11

DisneyworldAugust2010-2484.jpg

So, kind of like a classic Caesar, but called something different. It got two thumbs up.

I had the well reviewed Spicy Kazan Roll - crab, shrimp, bay scallops, tuna and fireball sauce $22

DisneyworldAugust2010-2483.jpg

Um. Oh my God. This was really all that and a bag of potato chips, greatest thing since sliced bread, all of that. DELICIOUS. Just so so so so good. Amazing. But again, a HUGE portion for appetizer. Still, well worth the $22 price tag in my opinion. A similar roll at our local sushi place goes for $12 and is no where near the quality or freshness.

And for entrees, Adam had Grilled Pork Tenderloin - with Goat Cheese Polenta, Button Mushrooms, Zinfandel Glaze, and Sage $34

DisneyworldAugust2010-2486.jpg

Beautiful pork, which I usually don't care for, and creamy polenta. A very nice, hearty dish. I for one, appreciated the fact that this came with polenta instead of a potato.

I of course, went with Yoshie's Deluxe Sushi Platter - maki and nigiri $28

DisneyworldAugust2010-2485.jpg

EVERYTHING was amazing. However, the one in the lower left hand corner was octopus. Now, I certainly meant no disrespect for the chef by not eating it, but I learned on a previous sushi excursion that Octopus is not for me. Flavor wise, or texture wise, it just won't go down for me. So, despite gobbling up everything else on the plate, and I mean EVERY bit, I actually was scolded by the waitress for leaving the octopus. Not in the joking way either. In the way that I got a lecture explaining that Yoshi was one of the most respected sushi chefs in the country and how insulting it was for me to send sushi back to the kitchen. I explained that I certainly meant no disrespect by doing so, I just know that octopus is a bit too adventurous for my taste and that the chefs skills were evident by the amazing sushi that I just devoured. If she was joking, she took it too far. I had to ask her to please, take my plate away, and bring out the dessert menu for us.

Dessert was also stellar here. We both went with the Valrhona Chocolate Cake - Warm chocolate cake w/molten center, cherry chambord ice cream, sweet whipped cream $13

DisneyworldAugust2010-2487.jpg

A really nice dessert that was actually made by the delicious ice cream that accompanied it.

Overall, the view for Wishes, and the over all amazing food made up for the fact that our service experience was pretty much ruined by the lecture I had to endure. Also, while Erika was not the only server to commit the faux paus, it really irritated me when we had a server remind us that gratuity was not included on the dining plan. And Erika mentioned it to us twice. Because apparently we couldn't determine this from the two receipts that state this, as well as the little flyer they insert with the check. While I don't doubt that this may have been overlooked by folks in the past, whether it be honest mistake or intentional, I felt it rude and somewhat awkward to be reminded of this at almost every meal.

Overall though, looking forward to repeating a meal here in the future.

First things first. Today I made the final payment on our trip!! I was a full two weeks early, so I'm quite proud of myself for that. :dance3:

WOOHOO!!!

So, after I made the final payment at 8AM this morning, I spent all my free time at work today listing off all of the things I still have to do before we leave. The list was quite extensive, but I will share with all of you so you can see where this PTR is headed.

1. Find and purchase a new park bag.
2. Purchase a new memory card for fancy pantsy new camera.
3. Purchase rechargeable batteries and battery charger for fancy pantsy new camera.
4. Find and purchase new park sandals. Maybe Teva Mush. I had to resort to tennis shoes last time. Practical, but not fashionable. Why can't I have both?
5. Find a way to break in new park sandals in the Wisconsin winter.
6. Get shorts and tank tops out of storage early!
7. Make parking reservation at Pride Parking at O'hare.
8. Make park binder to house all of our confirmations, ADR's and schedules.
9. Create and print Ridemax itineraries.
10. Place order for Garden Grocer
11. Order Photopass CD.
12. Order something for Adam from Disney Florist.
13. Book Keys to the Kingdom Tour
14. Purchase rain ponchos and remember to pack them this time.
15. Finish Pre Trip Report and Pre Dining Report.
16. Purchase travel size toiletries.

Yikes!! :scared1: Thats still a lot to do! But, it is winter, and winter is boring, so I know I can get it all done!

I'm here, I'm here! :yay:

And if you're too old for Spring Break ... then I must be a a geezer! :lmao::rotfl2:

Loving the plans and theme nights! Waiting for more! popcorn::
