2 weeks on board the "Magic"!!!

We took the Disney trip across to St. John Island. Took approx 40mins to get there from The Magic. Wonderful boat trip, with breathtaking views. Well worth the trip, as it has to be the most beautiful place we have ever visited. You get a bus ride included in the trip cost, and this lasts approx 2 hrs, and you see all the best views of the Island. You arrive back at port in St. Thomas early afternoon, and we took the opportunity of walking around the town in St. Thomas, before heading back to the ship........... and enjoying one of Scoops Ice Creams!!! (A regular feature of the vacation!) If you dont go on this trip, then be sure to take a ride on one of the official taxi-buses around St. Thomas. Dont just sit on the beach: its a waste!!! There is so much to see!

Just a word for those who have asked how my daughter got to work on the ship:

She had previously been on the "International Program"for one year at Epcot, which is available to anyone between the ages of 18-30ish. This was a wonderful opportunity for her to represent UK, and to get involved with the Walt Disney Corporation. She then decided to apply to work aboard one of the Disney ships. However, you do NOT need to have previously worked for Disney to apply to work on the cruiseline. There is a website advertising positions within Disney, which can be accessed via the main Disney Website. Also, you can write to the Casting Centre in Orlando, for details of cruiseline work.

There are certain things Disney look for when interviewing prospective workers, namely a cheery disposition and smart appearance. It also helps if you have previous experience of whichever department you wish to apply for. Please do not apply if you want BIG BUCKS! You wont get them working on ANY cruise ship! However, it is a great experience for youngsters, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly. Those of you who have sailed with the Disney cruiseline will probably have realized that there are usually NO USA Servers on board!!! The pay is notoriously poor on ALL ships, and crew rely on tips to make ends meet! I assume that more money can be made on mainland USA for those interested in waiting/waitressing. 52 nationalities make up the staff on board, so if you want to make pals with people from all over the world................ this is the place to work! Our daughter has friends now from every corner of the world, and that makes up for the dreadfully long hours.Usually, contracts are 6 months - NO FULL DAYS OFF, but 2 months vacation between contracts.Flights are paid for by Disney.
Encourage your youngsters to apply,- but, although you may think its a wonderful life - its no vacation for the crew. Remember, those smiley Servers work up to 90 hours a week to make your cruise enjoyable!
Disney have provided 4 wonderful years for our daughter so far............... and a lovely boyfriend from the other side of the world, who she would never have otherwise met! Good luck!Nat
