2 Washers and Dryers in new house...Crazy or Practical??

I think 2 sets of washer/dryers would be great. However, I would not do stackables. If you have the room, I would do full sets. I think the stackables take forever to dry and I just do not like them. Good luck.

I have not read the whole thread, but NO I would not do it.

The stackable dryers are PATHETIC!!! Plan on laundry taking just as long as it does now... You give up a LOT of efficiency with the stackable units.

Have you considered the impact on your utility bills, especially if your dryers are electric?

Wouldn't she have the utility bill anyway since she would still have to be doing the same amount of laundry? This is just a convenience of time from what I gathered. Aside from the cost of the machines themselves, I would think the other costs would be the same.

We loved having two washers and dryers. One was placed on the same level and in a laundry room just outside of the master bedroom and the other was placed in a separate room off of the pool and shower area. It made it a lot easier for work clothes, pool towels and pet rugs.

Having two dishwashers are a necessity in larger families and are great if you have two different areas that you entertain. One was placed in our kitchen and the other was placed in a small prep area for outdoor entertaining. Saves a lot of work.

Not necessarily. Some utility companies have "peak usage" fees - which basically means the rates are higher if you are using a lot of electricity at once.

My brother is very frugal - and his utility company not only has peak usage, but discounts for off-peak usage. So in his house, you can't wash clothes and dishes simultaneously, and you can't use the dryer until after 8 pm.

Yes, I feel sorry for my sister-in-law.

I'd love to do this once we have kids. I'll keep the full size w/d we already have, and then buy a stackable. The stackables usually have smaller capacity, so I'd use those for the kids clothes, then use the full size for the adult clothes.

I don't know if we'd do it, but it's a dream of mine! We've got plenty of room in the basement!

I also want to extend our current laundry shute, right now it only goes up to the 1st floor bath, but DH thinks he can extend it up to the 2nd floor hallway! Still have to lug the laundry back upstairs, but at least I don't have to carry it all down!

When my washer was on the blink I went to the laundromat and remember thinking "Man, I wish I had multiple washers and dryers to get EVERYTHING down at once!" Never thought of it in my home, though!

I would have two FULL sized w/d's though, I've had stackable in two different residences and their capacity is very limited.

If I had a big laundry room and were going to to go the trouble of having 2 W/Ds, I wouldn't go with stackable. I would go with full sized front loaders.

I say do it, why not?

As for stackables :confused3 I have a extra-large capacity front loader washer and dryer that are stacked. They could be two seperate units, but to safe space we have them stacked. There are a lot of "good" washer and dryers out there that you can do this with. They may not be the super fancy ones, but wash and dry the same amount of clothes in the same amount of time.

I'd get two. I like the landromat for the very reason that I can do multiple loads at once. I don't go there any more but I'd love to have more than one washer/dryer.

Oh and I'm anal about laundry too. I sort like you do and always have more than enough stuff to fill a load. I do sometimes mix green and yellow though. lol

And mine have a certain order...I can not stand it when DH does the reds first.

I don't have any kids, but DH used to say he'd like to have two dryers. He figured it took twice as long to dry as it did to wash, and that way laundry would go quicker.

Of course now we have front loaders and they're set up so the washing and drying take about the same time (depend on which setting you use). It's supposed to mean fewer trips to the laundry room, or so the sticker says. ;)

This is what I want. Dh wanted to do 2 stackables, but the capacity isn't as big and the reliablilty it very bad. I would love to have 2 dryers though. That is where the bottleneck is.

Our laundry room is upstairs so front loaders are out.

The other option is have a stackable put in your master closet. Lots of the street of dreams homes here do that.

Why? We have a 2nd story laundry with the front loaders and they are quieter and vibrate less than the old ones did. Only Sears say no front loaders on the 2nd floor. The construction of your home is the key.

I think if you have enough laundry that two washers and dryers would help why not?? It sounds like you will have the space in the laundry room. Just think how much faster you would be able to get your laundry done! I mean tons of people have two fridges and stuff and I even know people with two ovens/stoves. I remember on that home makeover show on ABC they put in two washers/dryers for this one family the mom thought it was the greatest thing!

OK, now I want a Duet with the sanitizing wash!! Eeyore'sthebest's sister would kill me - I wash cloth diapers in our washer, on the hottest wash, but no bleach.

I only do one load of laundry a day so two washers/dryers wouldn't help me. I wouldn't be able to stand running down the stairs that often!

Well we have a new house but everywhere we went they said not to do it. They said it was louder because of the high spin cycle and they said that it would vibrate the house.

It doesn't really matter, after we ran all the numbers we figured out it would take us at least 10 years to break even on a front loader so we went with a middle of the line top loader. Serves us just fine.

If you have the room for it, why not? It can cut your "laundry-doing" time in half.

My DH had a roommate who only wore white oxford shirts, khaki pants (cotton in the summer, corduroy in the winter), black Gold-Toe socks, white t-shirts, white underwear.

He would do laundry once about every 3 months. He'd take his stuff, go to a Laundrymat really early in the morning and fill every washer with his clothing, then fill every dryer with his clothing.

He spent about 3 hours every 3 months doing laundry, rather than hours every week. Odd, but very practical, when you think about it.

Can your DH manage to do two loads at once - lol.

It was his idea so I am right in thinking he does all the laundry - lol

I've always said that I'd love to have 2 dryers. SIL (5 kids) raves about her front loader - says she can do twice as much laundry at once. That's my next washer! Have fun with your new house!
