2 Washers and Dryers in new house...Crazy or Practical??

I say go for it!!!

We're crazy too. We're getting an HDTV installed on the wall in the living room. My BF wants us to keep the tv that is already there so that he can watch tv while he plays his X-Box 360 lol. Not practical at all, just totally crazy. I think your plan is a bit more practical.

I would love to have two washers & dryers! And two dishwashers! :cheer2: With three kids, the laundry is never done.

ETA: Just reread your post...um, isn't that what wiping is for...to get rid of the urine? How much urine gets left on underwear, lol. I never see any....and if I don't see it, it ain't there... :rotfl:
That's what I thought as well. :confused3 They don't have disgusting habits or anything. She saw some special on one of those news shows on how germy your washing machine is after washing certain items. She has been a laundry geek ever since. This is one of those things that I just shake my head over. I've got better things to worry about then if my panties have touched shirts. :rotfl2:

Actually our new washer has a sanatize wash. It takes 1 hour and 55 minutes to run. The washer heats the water to 160 to kill these germs. We used it on our sheets, towels and underwear.

My only concern would be that you make sure two stackables will be bigger than one normal washer and dryer. I have had two stackables (one in a travel trailer and one in an apartment) and they didn't seem to be full capacity. I would think that if they don't hold as much as a full capacity that you will just be breaking one load into two and not save yourself any time. Now, if the stackables are full sized these days, then I'd say go for it.

Not crazy, but I am questioning the "stackables" as well?????

I don't think the load capacity is very high. I might get 1 stackable and 1 set of biguns'. I would love that!!!!

Bad idea. The stackables are not nearly as energy efficient, and their capacity is small. You'd be better off buying a large capacity set that's good a good energy rating. Get a front loader if you want to use less water on smaller loads.

I had a stackable set for years--it took forever to get the clothes dry--think about it if you ever stayed at a DVC unity and tried to dry towels. Plus they were too small to handle rugs, comforters, blankets, and other bulky items.

Also, be sure that your hot water heater has the capacity that you need. We added a jacuzzi to our bathroom and had to upgrade the hot water heater. I would imagine that two washers running at the same time might result in a much higher demand for hot water.........especially the way you've described your laundry quirks! ;) And you wouldn't save yourself any time if you had to wait for the hot water heater to refill.

Let me guess--a Duet. I've got the same thing, I use the sanitize option for the pet bedding, towels, and my sons work coat and pants--he works in a meat/seafood department. (Yuck!)

I've seen 2 sets of washer and dryers in the Parade of Homes models around here for several years. I do laundry the same way as you. :teeth: I'd love to have 2 sets. I would never do it with the stackables though. I've had them in apartments and the capacity is too small. I have an extra large capacity washer and I can get a lot in there.

You got it.

The people who used to live in this house before I did had them. I thought it was genious. I just got a new washer and dryer set myself and could of gone that way. I just don't (for me) like to look of them. I wanted the cool new front loader ones for their looks. Not as practical I know but that was my reason.

And to be honest you aren't anywhere near as geeky as my sister. She washes underwear completely separate from everything else. After the undies load it has to be a white load full of bleach. She figures the bleach kills the residual urine from the panties. :confused3
Dsis thinks not doing laundry her way is the equivalent of washing your face with a urine soaked washcloth. :confused3 You can't pick blood.

I wash my undies the same way! Undies get washed in the hottest water they can take so colered are done with half the water being on hot and then I switch the water to warm after it has filled half way. The next load is the socks and white undies and they get bleached and hot water to wash them. Kills all the germs. I also wash my bath towels in hot water and my dish clothes get washed with bleach and hot water.

Go for it. We have 4 kids and hubby wanted to put in 2 dryers.

I don't have any kids, but DH used to say he'd like to have two dryers. He figured it took twice as long to dry as it did to wash, and that way laundry would go quicker.

Of course now we have front loaders and they're set up so the washing and drying take about the same time (depend on which setting you use). It's supposed to mean fewer trips to the laundry room, or so the sticker says. ;)

I have often said that I wish I had 2 dryers!!! If your husband is offering.....say yes before he changes his mind. My husband thinks I'm crazy :rotfl:

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE two washers/dryers. I have a extra large capacity washer/dryer and I STILL do about 10-15 loads/week. I also separate into reds, greens, blues, etc. mainly because I have that much laundry that I can do that. I also have a couple loads of bleached whites, non-bleach whites. The new front loaders would not cut down my loads at all because they have the same capacity as what I have now. I hate laundry!!!

My MIL has a full size stackable unit and it holds quite a bit of laundry, as much as a regular size top loader would but not as much as my extra large ones do.

Our old washer was extra large capacity and the new front loader will hold two of those loads. They really are bigger. BTW I thought the same thing before I got my new one and I was wrong!!!! With the new washer DH and I now do 3 loads total per week and may need an extra one every three weeks.. Yes we are wear it once people too. Our water usage when down by over 250 gallons per week.

I have always wanted one washer and two dryers. It always take twice as long to do the drying than the washing. This, I think, would be perfect.

My washer and dryer are 14 years old. Stuff dries in the time it takes to wash a load with mine. I just have to set the dial to the right "heat setting" and dry setting and it buzzes about the time the last spin cycle ends.

Wouldn't you have to install another water and drainage hookup?

And another dryer vent? (I suppose that wouldn't be so hard).

Have you considered the impact on your utility bills, especially if your dryers are electric? Is that increase worth the convenience of having your laundry done a little faster?

Would 2 dryers overload your circuit?
