I'm hoping you super smart Dis folks can help me.
I've looked for something on this topic and haven't seen anything, and I have an email out to a travel agent about it as well. :confused3

Here's the deal. We are planning a trip in January with 3 adults and 2 children. We will get two rooms. In one room I'm planning to put 2 adults and 1 child on the DDP and in the other room put 1 adult and 1 child on the DXDP.

In the past, when we have all gone together with two rooms but all on DDP, we didn't have any problems sharing credits (ie giving the waiter one KTTW to take the credits off of). Will we now?

Say we all want to go to a signature restaurant, but the DDP people don't have any credits left, can we just use the DXDP credits on the other KTTW card?

Thanks for your help! :thumbsup2

No. The others would have to pay OOP for any meals they would order.

ETA: I will clarify that it "should" not be something that is allowable, but some CMs may let you do it. From a rules standpoint, it is against the rules. Assuming your reservation was all under the same number last year so you were allowed, but given that you have two different plans this year, you should also be on two separate reservations, so they will be treated as such.

Don't they just see on the card how many TS credits are left? That's the impression I've gotten in the past when we just used whichever KTTW to pay for everyone's meal.

If you go by the letter of the policy, then guests in one room cannot use their DDP to pay for meals for guests in the other room.

This is supposed to be enforced by servers and cashiers who check the key card, which shows how many and what type of persons (adult or child) are on the dining plan for that reservation. If the party has 2 adults and 2 children they can use DDP in that transaction to pay for 2 adult and 2 child meals, and no more.

The DIS restaurant board has a policy that posts going outside that policy aren't allowed.

Well then, that answers my question. Thank you.

That being said, there are still ways to rock the dining plan that are within the rules. If you are doing signature restaurants, it may make sense to put two adults and one child on deluxe no plan for the other room. With all the deserts and appetizers, just pay out of pocket for the 3rd adult and for the 2nd child meals. Or put the other room on Quick Service only to boost the cs and snacks up a bit as well as get the other mugs if that is something you want. Seriously, having two rooms almost pays for itself with the flexibility it gives you.
