We currently own a Beach Club contract we bought resale in 2017. We are considering adding on to this resale. Would this be the same membership if it's the same use year, names on title, etc. or would it be two separate memberships because of the different resale restrictions?

Thanks for your help. :)

Same membership. I have resale BWV contracts that go from 2011 to 2019. The 2011 contract has blue card privileges. The 2019 contract cannot be used for RIV reservations. All are under the same membership.

Same membership. What will happen is that if you wanted to book RIV, the restricted contract will simply not show up as an option to use.

Same with direct and resale. My BLT (Direct) is the same membership as my SSR (Resale and also restricted). They combine together at 7 months for reservations, except I can only see the BLT contract if I try booking Riviera.
Usually, anyway lol. Just a few days ago there was the glitch that temporarily allowed me to book Riviera with my restricted account.

Following up on this question, if a person has two contracts with two UY's, is that two different memberships? Is the UY what determines whether you have two membership numbers. If you have two membership numbers, how does that make things different for you?

Yes, two different UY's are two different memberships. You can't combine those points into one reservation without doing a transfer between memberships. Otherwise you just choose which membership you are booking with and use them separately.

Thank you!

I have that situation. My BLT and SSR are June UY, same membership. My BRV is Sep UY, different membership. As JETSDAD said, you can't combine the points in two different memberships unless you do a transfer. A transfer is not always a great thing either, because you can't transfer banked or borrowed points. It's best if you use them independently. This is new to me because BRV is a new contract as of last year. I used both memberships last February for a split stay between HHI and SSR. Right now I have April booked Split stay BRV then BLT. At the 7 month window, I plan to combine my BLT/SSR points into one reservation. But the BRV reservation will remain separate. However, if I decide to lengthen my BLT stay instead, I could book the same class room at BLT using the BRV points. Then I would have to ask MS to flag it as a continuous stay, and ask the front desk not to move us if possible. Chances are I would not have to move, but it will remain a separate reservation even if I don't move, because they can't combine two different membership reservations into one.

If I could have the same UY I would, it's better. But when you're trying to get a great deal on resale, it broadens the opportunity to find a great contract, if you don't mind the drawbacks.

Thank you for explaining. This helps! I didn't want to wait around for the perfect contract with the same UY. Especially when I have two "baby contracts" meant for a studio trip every-other-year.

If you have a reason to get a different one, or will use them on their own, it is not a big deal.

But, if you do think you want to combine, be sure you understand the transfer rules. You can’t transfer points that have been banked…once yoy transfer, you can’t borrow them for a trip.

They retain their own UY so you need to be sure to plan carefully if you decide to transfer as you can bank them one you do.

Is the UY what determines whether you have two membership numbers.
In addition to UY, names on the title also determine whether one membership or two. For instance, if parents own more than one contract and add their adult children to only one contract, that one contract will be placed in a separate membership. Of if someone buys DVC when single and then marries but doesn't add the new spouse to the contract, and later they buy a contract together but don't change the title on the first contract, again they'll have a separate membership for the contract that's held in common.

If you have them on the same account (same name), it has a drop down at the booking screen. You can see the reservations for both UYs, but you are like two different people. As in, if you modify it keeps you within that UY. This can be confusing for split stays or if you did a search under the wrong contract and now you're stuck, because you can't switch once you search.

This confuses Member Services. To change between the UYs, they have to pull them both up, like they are two different people. So, they can't really see what you can see, which is all the reservations for all your UYs.
