2 Officers shot in Dallas tonight during police protest rally

Wow! Talk about adding fuel to the flame. I just turned on the Today Show to see a black actress saying the solution to this violence is to punish a police officer as an example and to make black people feel better about being heard. In disgust I turned to CNN and they are still showing the upset girlfriend in Minnesota using emotion to further inflame everything. Please keep in mind that we have still not heard anything from the police about why they shot. This is so irresponsible to keep showing her statements without presenting the other side. I am not saying the police were right, just that some people are judging without even hearing the other side. Further evidence that nothing has been learned from the carnage in Dallas.

Ironically from what I have heard the Dallas PD is not considered to have a history of racial issues.

You punish criminals as a deterrent to others from committing like offenses, which should include police officers who use their authority inappropriately or with gross disregard for people's safety. Assassinating random police officers would make anyone feel better? The Today show should apologize for allowing such reckless inflammatory talk on their program and the authorities should look into whether the actress should be prosecuted for publicly making comments likely to incite violence and/or riots.

You are not getting my point. The poster was saying not to rush to judgment about the true intentions of the police shooters. But isn't that what the protesters were doing in the first place, protesting the police shootings based on some video snippets, and nothing more?

I am not sure about that. I am not a protester by nature, and prefer to make my difference in my own way, but I never act on one isolated incident. I have to believe that for most of the people gathered, the protest was not centered in a vacuum circling those two shootings, although I do think that for some of those present, the coverage stirred up anger and resentment for many.

I have a point that may or not mirror those who say do not rush to judgement about someone who shoots a police officer. I will. I do not waste one second thinking about the intention of anyone who opens fire on a crowd. I will judge that person and in the event that person manages to stay alive after the attack, I would not even waste one penny on a trial. You do something like that, there is no defense in my book. Not one reason or one excuse can mitigate the harm that you did. For this kind of violence I have zero tolerance.

One of them saved us the trouble and blew himself up.

From abc news:
One of the suspects in the ambush-style shootings in Dallas that left five police officers dead overnight told a hostage negotiator he was upset about the recent police shootings of two black men and he wanted to kill white people, especially police officers, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said at a news conference this morning.

I woke up to this horrific and expected news about the motivation for this slaughter. I think it is safe to say this was racial hatred inflamed by recent rush to judgement against police incidents. Disgusting.

This incident seemed planned out. To me anyway. I don't think it was a recent rush to judgment against recent police incidents. Some are saying that this is on the hands of the governor of Minnesota because of his statements. I don't think so. I think people are still angry about Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner, etc.

It doesn't make it right. At all. And I'm not condoning what has happened in Dallas. I can be against cops murdering citizens and citizens murdering cops at the same time. Neither are right.

Queen Latifah. And the anchors did not call her on her hate statement. They thanked her and encouraged everyone to go see her movie Ice Age. Serve up a side of rush to judgement with your cartoon.
Gotta love Hollywood.

You'd think they would have learned their lesson in Ferguson. The movement lost all credibility when they failed to acknowledge that their actions in Ferguson were premature and continue to this day to consider Brown an example of Police brutality against blacks.

You can't complain about bad cops and expect anything to change when you willingly hang the good ones out to dry as well.
But they honestly don't care because it still serves their purpose. They inflame the masses...divide and conquer. Right vs wrong or good vs bad..doesn't matter. There is video of the agitators dancing and mocking LEO..absolutely disgusting.

What were they protesting? The investigations haven't been completed. Is it just another excuse to stir the pot? Personally, I feel prayer vigils would've been more appropriate, but sadly, those events are frowned upon nowadays...not inflammatory or judgmental.

Not that it matters but the disgusting coward did not blow himself up. The police sent a bomb in on a robot and blew him up. Good riddance.
Thanks for the correction. I was only half listening to the press conference this morning and I heard the Dallas PD Chief say something about being blown up. Again, thanks for the correction. :)

The moral of the story is the south should have picked their own damn cotton, and these "racial" issues wouldn't exist.

It's that simple?

How do you explain the violence against members of the Muslim Faith, the brutality against members of the LGBT community, ambushes on the military installations and law enforcement officers in largely white communities? I am not at all sure your are not trying to be sarcastic, but I do feel that comments like the one you made diminish and degrade discussions that for many of us, are thoughtful and difficult, and that share thoughts and biases we may not even realize that we have.

It is naive to believe that race and faith and sexual orientation do not play into violent acts, even if at the core of that violence, race and faith or sexual orientation were simply an excuse to drop any inhibition and commit murder.

Well, believe or not, some DID pick their own cotton.

Since when did slavery exist ONLY in the South or the US? Besides, that ended over 150 YEARS ago! How long will that excuse continue to racially divide our country? No need to answer, I know the answer. ;)

Can you provide a link! Of murders in the US fours times more are committed with firearms so I question your comment. I think that statement you made is false.

Like our media has a tendency to do, my information was not researched in full. It was based off of long guns and not handguns as well. I admit the incorrectness and take blame.

There is a lot of broad brush painting going on. Saying all officers should be held responsible for the actions of the small number of bad cops is wrong...but so is saying everyone upset by the actions of a few racist cops are responsible for the actions of these criminals.

I'm seeing a lot of chatter in various places celebrating the murders of these police officers or at least trying to justify it. I find that disturbing. I'm not saying that anyone is responsible for anything but a little more compassion would be nice.

Well, that isn't right...there is no defense for the actions, and I can only suggest maybe with the way the media works now (not "The Media" as an institution but "media" as in forms of communication), with comments and posts being said at one time, with limited knowledge of the facts appearing worse once facts are known, that the people that seem to justify it, will recant and apologize.

But then, I do have an overriding sense of faith in my fellow humans...misplaced some say.
