2 Nerds, a Vegetarian and a Ninja walk into the Magic Kingdom Update 4/7

On the sofa?? How did she manage to sleep on that?!

'This is not Sparta!' had me :rotfl: Love the DTD pics and Tom sure does look like a child in that pic :lmao:

:woohoo: on meeting your first internet celeb though I prob would not have had a clue who he was!

On the sofa?? How did she manage to sleep on that?!

I don't know how comfortable the sofa itself was, but I can attest that the sofa bed (at least at Animal Kingdom Lodge) was terribly uncomfortable. I fell asleep there watching a movie one night and woke up with the metal bar digging into my back. So Tabby probably made the right call!

One of the things we were most looking forward to on this trip was Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Since we couldn't come up with a theme for costumes, I made us matching t-shirts for the occasion (one of the many last-minute tasks I frantically completed the night before our flight). I don't have a good picture of the shirts, but they were black with an orange mickey ears skull design I stole from this board. I put a silhouette image on each of our shirts (inside one of the ears) to represent us. Brian had the Green Lantern symbol. Tabby had a ninja. Tom had his favorite pokemon, Meowth. And I had...holly, which they all thought was lame. But they liked THEIR shirts and I liked MINE so I guess that's what matters.

Brian had bought me orange and black tights, so I wore those with a black skirt, and my running shoes because I sadly didn't have any better footwear options. I bought a candy corn hat on Main Street because I wanted something on my head. I found an orange and black witch hat later that I liked better, but oh well. Tabby and Brian both got pirate-y hats, and Tabby bought a sword (and pawned her balloon sword off on me). (Tabby had the Mickey pirate bandanna and I had the Goofy pirate hat bandanna. Somewhere along the way Tabby had acquired a new balloon sword. The old one was blue, this one was black. -Brian)

Okay, moving on.

We drove to Magic Kingdom and, perhaps because we'd been so delighted with our ferry ride to and from DTD earlier, we decided to take the ferry instead of the monorail. They had chalk sitting out, so we amused ourselves while we waited. (See? Ninja.)

DSCI0302.JPG

Once we got inside, we had a photo pass guy take a group shot of us in front of the castle. We (okay, Brian) had copies of this picture printed and framed and gave them to Tabby and Tom for Christmas. As we were getting ready to walk away, some strangers stopped us and asked if we would pose for a picture FOR THEM. This amused me a lot. I guess they liked my shirts?

We didn't have much of an agenda, except that we definitely wanted to see the parade and fireworks, and it was still too early for either, so we began wandering around the park.

Forget hidden Mickeys...Tom found a Pokeball!

DSCI0305.JPG

I'm not sure what we're charging here (I think maybe this was the backdrop for a character greeting that happened later?):

DSCI0306.JPG

Brian checked the map and realized Country Bear Jamboree would be closing when the party "officially" started, so we hightailed it over there and made it just in time for the last show of the day. CBJ is Brian's favorite show, so he would have been devastated if we missed it. After Brian had gotten his fill of those singing bears (and the rest of us had a nice nap...sorry Brian), we stopped in at the Golden Horseshoe for the dance party with Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye. As you can see, the place was packed.

DSCI0309.JPG

DSCI0308.JPG

DSCI0311.JPG

The dance party didn't hold our interest for very long, so we headed out and did a few rides. I can't remember everything now because it's been five months, but we definitely did Big Thunder Railroad, Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Philharmagic at some point during the night. We hadn't planned to do much trick or treating, but whenever we saw a short or empty line, we went through. They were handing out these candies that tasted like butterfingers. I loved those candies. I ate mine as soon as I got them, and may have also eaten them out of other people's bags when they gave them to me to hold.

Brian looked at the time and decided we should go find a spot and see the first parade. I'd thought we were going to wait for the second (presumably less crowded) parade, but Brian's the boss. However, Tom had spied a trio of hot ladies and he wanted to stop and see if he had a chance with any of them. I think the Hooters experience made him more bold. I passed him the camera and the rest of us continued on.

As Tom pointed out to me, the wicked stepmother appears to be 19 years old. Really, Disney Casting?

We found a spot standing on the gallows, which was decent because it gave us something to lean against, and also elevated us a little (I'm 5'1, I need all the extra help I can get). And then we waited for the parade to start while the crowd swelled around us.

Next: Boo to you!

Love the shirts! Am looking forward to seeing the Wicked Step mother and ugly sisters - might mention something about her being young enough to be another ugly sister then an actual step mother :rotfl:

Thanks!

When Tom came back over and told me the wicked stepmother looked the best, I thought, "oh, of course you would think that." Then I saw the pictures.

We had staked out our parade spot at the gallows in Liberty Square. I thought it was a good spot. It's right at a turn in the parade so you get a pretty good view of different angles of all the floats and characters. The parade was excellent. If you have never been to MNSSHP, I highly recommend you go and watch the parade. (Sorry the pictures didn't turn out. This was the best I could do with a few of them.)

After the parade, Tabby started to get a little grumpy because she was hungry. Holly and I walked over to Casey's with her while Tom wandered on his own for a bit. (Tabby's grumpiness was a recurring theme this trip. Every time she started to get cranky I would tell her, "Tabby, you're just hungry. Eat something and you'll feel better." And she would argue with me. Oh, and Tom had gone off in search of a Christmas store that ended up being closed. -Holly) She got some corn dog nuggets with fries.

DSCI0359.JPG

See? Holly took pictures of ALL our food. Even when she wasn't eating.

We sat down at one of the tables outside so she could eat. After she took a few bites, she started to stare at me with this goofy smile on her face. I started to feel uncomfortable. "What?" I asked. She replied, "I love food" in a very satisfied tone. (See, all better!) While she was eating, there were several birds scampering around all the tables trying to get everyone's falling scraps. Holly has "issues" with birds so she was not too pleased. Tabby didn't seem to be thrilled with them either.

After Tabby finished her food, we wandered around the Main Street Shops for a bit until it was time for the fireworks. We called Tom and he met us in the Hub. There weren't too many people around so we got a spot right in between Main Street and the Hub. Would you believe this was the first time I have ever stopped and watched a complete fireworks show at WDW? It's definitely something I will have to do in the future.

When the fireworks had finished, we wandered around the park, riding rides and collecting candy. I don't remember specifically what we rode or when we rode it. Eventually, it was almost time for the Villain Mix and Mingle. We started heading towards the hub again and cut through a building in Adventureland. Inside the building, there were a few lines for characters. As we made our way through, Baloo and King Louie came out for a meet and greet so we quickly went over and were first in line. Tom wanted a picture by himself (I don't know why. I mean wouldn't you want your picture taken with me?) so Holly, Tabby and I got our pictures taken together. As we walked over, Baloo signaled that he wanted Tabby's sword. Then Louie signaled that he wanted Holly's sword. Then they started to sword fight. It was hilarious. Eventually, King Louie won. I guess having an opposable thumb helped.

Someone started a thread a while back asking "Why do adults without children get in line for Meet and Greets?" They wanted to know why it appealed to them. I replied back with the sword fight story. If we hadn't got in line, we would have missed a really fun and funny experience.

As soon as we left the building, we saw Meeko.

DSCI0381.JPG

We finally made our way to the castle stage to see the villains. It was a pretty good show. I knew Tom was looking forward to having his picture taken with Jafar, his favorite character.

DSCI0391.JPG

The rest of us decided to join Captain Hook's crew.

DSCI0394.JPG

DSCI0395.JPG

After that, we went to Fantasyland so Tabby could get on some of the rides she missed when she decided to sleep while we had our late night at MK. That's when we saw these guys.

DSCI0396.JPG

The line was super long so we didn't get our picture with them. Still, it was cool to see.

It was getting close to midnight at this point and we decided to call it a night.

Next: Harry Potter

Sounds like you all had a great day...love the sword fight between King Louis and Baloo! :thumbsup2

I think adults should get to meet and greet characters - I will definitely be meeting as many as possible and also getting autographs!

Looking forward to reading about your Harry Potter day :)

As I spend more time at WDW I find more and more forms of entertainment. It started, of course, with the rides, then the scenery, then the shows and now characters.

Whassup Reddog? Nice MNSSHP pictures. Looks like you had a fun time.

Definitely. I already told Holly I want to go back in October. In case you didn't pick this up from reading the trip report, I love Halloween!!!

Stay tuned everybody. A new chapter should be coming soon.

Okay, this installment of the trip report is pretty tardy. Where were we? Well, we'd just left Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. I fully intended to take a nice hot bath in our huge tub with my new bath bombs since it was our last night at Old Key West, but I was too tired. So I climbed in bed with Brian and the new friend I brought home from Magic Kingdom:

DSCI0401.JPG

The next morning, I finally took my bath. I think the tub was just TOO big, though, for my poor little bath bomb to have much of an impact. It felt more like a swimming pool.

DSCI0402.JPG

We checked out of OKW and left our bags for them to transport to Animal Kingdom Lodge for us. Then we headed to Islands of Adventure!

DSCI0404.JPG

We went straight to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and got in line for Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey.

DSCI0408.JPG

DSCI0407.JPG

DSCI0850.JPG

The thing that annoys me about IOA and Universal Studios is that you can't carry anything on the big rides. I don't like to fool around with the lockers, so I make sure everything I bring into the park fits in my pockets (or, more often, Brian's). At Forbidden Journey, since the line was so long, they branched it off into people who needed lockers and people who didn't instead of just making the people who needed lockers get out of line. So, people behind us who needed lockers ended up getting AHEAD of us in line. So annoying. I hate crowds. And waiting. :)

The queue was neat but we were stuck in the greenhouse forever, and then rushed through the castle and missed most of the special effects. The ride itself was fun. A lot bumpier than I expected.

Next, we needed butterbeer! The line at the cart outside was super long, and I'd read on the internet that the lines inside Hog's Head Pub were much shorter. But we couldn't find it. We found The Three Broomsticks and, since it wasn't lunch time yet, there was no line and the place was completely empty. Even so, they wouldn't let us sit down since we didn't order any food. They made us walk through the restaurant to...Hog's Head Pub. Apparently we'd walked right past it on our way to The Three Broomsticks.

Tom and I got regular butterbeer, Tabby had the frozen version, and Brian got pumpkin juice.

DSCI0415.JPG

DSCI0414.JPG

DSCI0416.JPG

They were all delicious!

We spent a few minutes at the bar, then we took our drinks and got in line for Dueling Dragons. I mean, Dragon challenge. Brian and I had ridden it a few times before the re-theming but it was a first for Tabby and Tom. I can't remember which side we rode.

I would have liked to have spent more exploring Harry Potter land, but the crowds and lines were too much for me to handle. Instead we went over to Jurassic Park, got soaked on Jurassic Park River Adventure, and then ran around Camp Jurassic for awhile.

DSCI0419.JPG

DSCI0422.JPG

DSCI0417.JPG

Since we were already wet, we did Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges (aka the river rapids) next.

DSCI0426.JPG

I don't think we did Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls (the log ride). Maybe because we couldn't handle THAT much fun?

DSCI0428.JPG

(I think the ride was actually down--I remember all the logs that came down were empty -Brian)

We continued on to Marvel Super Hero Island and rode the Incredible Hulk Coaster, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, and Doctor Doom's Fear Fall, then on to Seuss Landing where we rode The Cat in the Hat and The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride. I know they're kiddie rides but I love them so much. :)

DSCI0432.JPG

Tabby wanted to do Poseidon's Fury but the next show wasn't for fifty minutes, and we couldn't wait that long because we had dinner reservations. So we decided to head out and check into AKL!

DSCI0466.JPG

DSCI0467.JPG

DSCI0468.JPG

We were on the top floor, so we took the elevator up and began the looooooong walk down the hallway. We finally got to our room...and the key wouldn't work. We tried another key and that wouldn't work either. So before we walked all the way back to the lobby, Brian thought to check the room number, and we were at the wrong room! We weren't even on the right side of the building. Our actual room was on the complete opposite end of the loooooooong hallway. (I requested second floor close to the lobby. We ended up in the last one-bedroom on the fifth floor.)

Room pictures in next post!

The room was awesome--not quite as spacious as OKW, but I loved the decor.

Love the new MK friend! :thumbsup2

Will have to remember to try and not take a bag to IOA - have heard about not being able to take anything on the rides. It's not good :sad2:

I'm sooo looking forward to getting a butterbeer. Wow you guys sure hit some intense rides - think I will be looking forward to the kiddie ones lol!!

The AKL view looks great - on not getting your request.

Hello anyone that is still out there. Sorry that there hasn't been an update in a long while. I actually haven't posted anything on the DIS in a while. I've been busy but hope to get an update posted soon.
