2 free roundtrip tickets

So me and my husband were approved this week. No cards yet. So if we get them in 2 weeks or so, they will definately close way after the 1st.....but don't they have to honor the 2 free flights now?

Except that, the way I understand it, is that since you have the credits now they will remain credits until you use them up on your 2 free flights. However, any points earned after 3/1 will be just that, points. You should have your credits grandfathered in since you had them before the conversion.

This sounded like good news, until I then realized that there might be blackout dates attached. I applied because I liked the no blackout dates - wish I could put the best parts of the two plans together into what I like!! :lmao:

I applied for this card maybe 5 or 6 days ago. Have not received an e-mail yet. Now I'm afraid I typed the e-mail wrong.

How long after application did you get e-mail? Maybe I should call them?

I just called Chase and we were approved

No cards yet; maybe in a few days. I wanted to check on the 2 free flights but there was more than a 10 min. hold time. May have to call when we get the cards.

Yep, and I have no idea what they're going to do as far as the blackout dates go. I've had my SW card since October and I currently have a free one-way flight sitting in my account (had 2 full free flights and used 3 one-ways) and I have about 7 credits in my SW account so I'll have to get up to 16 before I convert to earning points. I guess we can cross our fingers that the blackout dates will go away for the credits too after 3/1!

I haven't read this whole thread but I have been trying to read the info in all the links. Do you get credit toward 2 free flights AND the first year fee of $59 waived? :goodvibes

Only if you transfer account balances and spend lots of money. If you don't do that and want the fee waived you get 1 flight. In order to get the 2 flights without jumping through hoops you pay the $59

I applied online late on 2/8, via the link on this first page, and saw last night the approved account added to my chase online page. No emails or snail mail yet. I'm not sure which program I applied for (1 or 2 free) to be honest- I just filled in the fileds. I understand about making the first purchase for points to show etc... I'm hoping to be able to use all this for flights from PHL or BWI to DEN in December.

With that said, does a card member get credit for "points" for new purchases only? More specifically, can you use the card to pay bills (mortgage, car- then pay the card) and receive credits too? What about or balance transfers?

I am more confused now after reading everything here and their information too. Are these free flights round trip or one way? We will be going from Baltimore to Seattle and the airfare right now is $209 each way. Will two of us actually be able to get a RT to Seattle and back with the credits offered in this promotion or will it end up costing us more? Thank you for your help!

I believe the specific answer for you is 'it depends'. Sorry, but I am guessing that's the best anyone can do. My understanding is that, yes, you should be able to get 2 free round trip tickets with the one offer mentioned (with the $59 annual fee). However, I believe that since it is still the 'old' system - there are only specific seats on each flight - so I don't think it is a guarantee that you will get seats on that exact flight you have picked out.

I applied for one for me and one for dh HOPING for the best and that we'll be able to get flights to/from BUF to MCO for our August trip. I'm trying not to be very specific about our dates so that I have more flexibility to get four of the 'free' seats. Unfortunately it is looking like I will likely have to make my ADR's before I actually have the airfare booked though - so might end up missing out on some of our reservations if I have to tweak a day or two. I already made my purchase on my card and am waiting to see when the credits get applied...Dh's card arrived later than mine so we're actually making the first purchase on his today....Again HOPING for the best but realizing that it's not a guarantee.

They are suppose to be 2 RT flights, so yes you would be okay. I found this in the fine print:
You will qualify and receive your 2 Roundtrip Free Flight Awards after your first purchase/first use of the card. First purchase/first use includes purchases, balance transfers, or any checks that are used to access your account, and excludes cash advances. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for your 2 Roundtrip Free Flight Awards to post to your Rapid Rewards account. This one-time bonus offer is valid only for first-time Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards personal Cardmembers. Previous and existing Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards personal Cardmembers are not eligible for this bonus offer.
The only question is whether the current rules will be applied or whether the new rules will be in effect. Under the old rules, you would get 32 Rapid Rewards credits which can be exchanged for 2 RT Rapid Rewards tickets. The only drawback is that you would be restricted as to which flights the rewards can be used on.

Under the new rules, there are no blackout restrictions. But the Rapid Rewards credits will be replaced with "points". It will take a different number of points to book a flight based on the cost. The old Rapid Rewards credits will be grandfathered in. But it is unclear how they can be used under the new program.

I think we all will need to keep an eye on flyertalk for the next few months to see how this all shakes out.

So if I need to make these reservations for July I shouldn't depend on this deal to make it happen. We don't fly often at all but I am getting ready to book our airfare for then. Might do this if they don't expire and can bank them. Thanks!

No, it says after first purchase. So you will have to buy something with the card then pay that bill first. I'm anxiously waiting to hear from someone who has gotten their free flights and bought tickets.

I had no problems when I applied for this card, and made a purchase. I have my free flights book already for May. That being said though, I do believe there is a problem with the link for this cc offer. Our offer was direct mailed to my DH. I hope everyone that applied is able to get the 2 free flights.

cepman, did you have to call to get the free flights or could you do it online? Could you use both free tickets for one trip?

I did not have to call. I applied via the link that was provided on our direct mailer and maybe about 1 -2 weeks after I applied, I got the card. The new cc account also showed up on my Chase.com login along with my other Chase credit cards. I made a purchase, and when that statement closed, the promotional points were transferred to my Southwest Rapid reward account, where they generated an "award". Awards are used to book flights, and yes, I was able to book both awards for 2 different people on the same flight using the online booking system.

So I applied last Monday for the card, and didn't receive an email or any updates on my Chase account for the credit card..

For those that didn't receive any sort of confirmation:
Yesterday, they finally called me and asked me to call back to confirm some things on my application before the application went to process and I called back today (with my reference number) to confirm some questions and got approved!

I should be receiving my card in 7-10 business days!

But from all the trouble you folks have had about receiving the 2 Free Flights (which I did apply for under the 2 Free Flights link), it looks like, I too, will have to call back and confirm

yes, I was able to book both awards for 2 different people on the same flight using the online booking system

I checked online reservations and was able to see a place to put gift cards but nothing to put points for free flights. Help!

do you have your awards yet? When you login to your SW rapid reward account, click on "view my account", then click on "awards" on the left hand side. this will bring you to the award page which will show how many awards you have available. Right above where it shows the awards, click on "book your ticketless award" to book your flight.

once this program switches over on 3/1 I'm not sure exactly how booking will work though.

I may have missed this int he 7+ pages of posts, read through and did not see an answer...do the points/credits expire? I want to open the CC for the 2 free flights but cant use them til next year 2012...thoughts?
