2 free roundtrip tickets

Free round trip plus $500 in gift cards with no annual fee for first year??? I just could not pass that up. Just applied. Will post my results.

Does anyone know if Canadians can apply?

I was looking into the Alaska Airlines Credit Card but Southwest looks better.

I have searched the Sw site and cannot find the answer to this. If approved for the card and I do get the 2 free flights can I book travel for my husband using one of the free flights or can I only use it since the points will be coming from my RR account?

the awards can be used by anyone, so, yes you can book flights for your husband too!

Thanks for the info!

The $500 giftcard deal can be found on post #4 of this thread. You have to spend $5000 in 3 months to qualify for the full $500 gift card.

I took the 2 free roundtrip tickets with the $59 fee instead of the 1 free flight and gift cards for spending extra $$$. That way if I don't like the way their point system works I can charge everything to my Disney rewards card instead.

BTW, you can't call the number on the $500 gift card offer and apply for the 2 free ticket offer. That offer is online only through the southwest site.

The Southwest gift card can be used to pay for flights, right?
Also, how long do you have to use the free flights? We may not go until June 2012.

yes, you can use the SW gift card to pay for flights

the points used to redeem for free flights do not expire (as long as you have flight or Partner earning activity every 24 months) so you will be okay to use them in June 2012

Cepmom..thanks for answering all these questions that we have! :goodvibes

One more! :lmao:

I'm thinking about doing the 2 free flights offer, but I couldn't find any information about the expiration dates of the free flights...we're thinking about using the free flights for our 'possible' trip in January of 2013...do you happen to know if the free flights do expire??

the "free flights" are actually enough points to redeem for free flights, and since points don't expire(as long as you have flight or Partner earning activity every 24 months),then you should be able to use them in Jan 2013:goodvibes

Wonderful! Thank you! :goodvibes:thumbsup2

I've had a SW credit card since October, and I wanted to point something out as far as the credits vs. points issues.

Anyone with any "credits" remaining in their account at the time of conversion from credits to points will be grandfathered in with credits. So then you will continue to earn credits instead of points until you reach enough to redeem for a round trip. After that, your earning will convert to points.

At least that is how I understand it, someone is free to correct me if that is wrong. It shouldn't make a huge difference either way, but if you like the idea of the Points rather than the Credits, you might want to hold out on applying for the card until after the switch.

I saw regarding credits vs. points on the Flyertalk website. I am not even trying to say I understand all of this but just wanted to share what I found. :)

Transition for awards

The transition for earnings is simple: You earn credits before March 1, 2011 and points for any activity that posts on or after March 1 (regardless of the activity date!).

You have a one-time option to top off your last 16-credit Standard Award at the ratio of 1200 points per credit. At that point you get a Standard Award. From then on, you can only earn points, not credits. FT member swag came up with a tip: It might be wise to delay exercising your option until you really need the Standard Award. That way it will carry a later expiration date if you don't use it immediately. For this purpose, you need at least 1 leftover RR credit in your account as of March 1.

I am still trying to wrap my brain around the Rapid Rewards program. I never qualifed in the past for a free flight but under the new program I just may in the future since points don't expire as long as there is travel within 24 months.

I just got it in the mail and am anxious to go out tomorrow for my first purchase - need to go grocery shopping anyway! :cool1:

I am worried, however, that my package with all my card info did not mention once anywhere the promotion that I applied with (I applied with the 2 free tix with the $59 annual fee). Shouldn't that be mentioned anywhere? Do you think if I call they will 'see' this promotion on my account?

Anyone else get their card and did it mention anything about your freebies and the fine print about your deal?

I don't recall that my card had any information regarding the free flights promotion either.

Can anyone tell me how long before you know if you are approved? I did this yesterday for both me and my husband. How do they let you know? Snail mail? Thanks!

I just got my SW visa card in the mail today and called to activate it. Luckily I held on a little while longer to listen to the lady ask about why I chose to get that card. After telling her for the 2 free flights promotion, she said only 1 free flight was listed on my account. She put me on hold and then came back to tell me she sent their marketing department an email about me saying I applied for the 2 free flights. She told me I would receive written notification of the change in the mail and that I'd get the 2 flights. Please make sure that you check!
