2 Castles, 2 Send out 2011 & Ring in 2012...12 Days of Christmas

Friday's Question Part 1
What Disney animated movie was the first to be released on DVD?

Pinocchio...here is the site I used?!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032910/trivia

I am giving anyone who threw out an anwer a point...for your google abilities!

Both good guesses, but not right! Maybe this will help...This movie was the first to win an Academy Award in a competitive category.

Pinocchio also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and Best Original Score, making it the first Disney film to win not only either Oscar, but also both at the same time. Snow White only earned a "special achievement" academy award.

Redo Friday Question:

How many times does Pinocchio's nose grow in the movie?

Actually there is only 1 sequence in the movie where his nose grows...during that time it grows 6 times (we counted).

During the musical number "When You Wish Upon a Star," when a spotlight is seen on Jiminy Cricket, one is able to see two books to the left of the screen, which are ______________________?

During the musical number "When You Wish Upon a Star," when a spotlight is seen on Jiminy Cricket, one is able to see two books to the left of the screen, which are "Peter Pan" and "Alice in Wonderland." Walt Disney started developing these two stories for the big screen at the time of this film's release, and they would be released in 1953 and 1951, respectively.

Okay here are the current standings after Friday's messy question...

Current Standings:
Ashley (lilpixie) 25
Susan 16
Dream426...15

Jeff and I have a fundraiser dinner/reverse raffle/dance tonight for Ab's school. The kids are begging for another movie night while Ab babysits...so I came up with one they could do on their own that will be fun and different! So here is the question (actually 3...cause the trivia is so much fun) that goes along with the movie night tonight...see if you can figure out the movie!

Saturday's Trivia Question:

How many days of summer vacation does Phineas and Ferb get?

What is the name of Doofenschmirtz's next door neighbor in Doofenshstain?

What is the name of Phineas' grandmother?

I wish I could stay around this morning and hang out on the the DIS...I am off to set up the room that I am using for a 4 day staff development this coming week that I am instructing. But at least I get paid for working on a Saturday...more disney money!!!!

Islands of Adventure
The Lost Continent

mythos.jpg

As you cross over a wooden bridge from Seuss Landing you become enveloped in a word of myth and it is so wonderful to get away from the Seuss soundtrack playing the background (no annoying music on the Lost Continent...instead the peaceful sounds of wind chimes). I know Ab and Boo are going to love this area. They are HUGE Percy Jackson fans and their teachers have done a great job taking that passion and exposing them to the world of Greek and Roman Mythology! The first thing you want to do is take a photo with this guy...

As you wonder farther into the Lost Continent you will approach the Lost City and find this...

and then this...

Facts: Special Effects Walking Show, 25 minutes
Personal Rating: B+

I really enjoyed this show when we went. The entire premise of the show revolves around you becoming part of a Discovery Group looking for the missing head archaeologist, kind of like an Indiana Jones Adventure that you get to take part in. When you get into the final chamber you will want to be in the first row (near the guardrail below the steps...ground level) if at all possible for the special effects (the other 2 chambers it really does not matter where you stand. I am not going to ruin the show for you...but if you have time and you like Greek mythology go to the show!

The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad

DSCF9106.jpg

Facts: Amphitheater Stunt Show, 20 minutes ("slapstick stunts and explosions galore")
Personal Rating: Did not see

This is a live-action stunt show, but from what I read has an awful script (the worst in town). Basically Sinbad is off to save the princess. There are 2 splash zones in the show (one toward the front to the right and the other in the middle to the left of the wrecked prow). Actually the best seats are the last row in front of either of the two arched entrances on the left and right...great panoramic view of the action, back rest and a quick get away after the show's end.

Mythos Restaurant

Mythos Restaurant is rated the best restaurant in USO 2 parks and has been rated the restaurant world wide in any theme park....and I have to agree that is was pretty darn good and a not so hidden gem at IOA. A great place full of atmosphere, cool, and take a break. I had the crab patty sliders...yum. My friend Pam had the berry crusted pork tenderloin...WOW! You can make reservations for this restaurant and not even have a park ticket.

I want to get finished up with USO/IOA by the time I reach double digits this coming weekend...have something planned to spot light the Disney side of our trip. So I have WWofHP and Seuss landing left...

Islands of Adventure
Seuss Landing

islandseusslandingentrance.jpg

DSCF0174.jpg

Being a teacher and a fan of Dr. Seuss, I really appreciate the theming of this island. Just imagine any page from any Dr. Seuss book you have read exploded into 3-d and that is what you get in Seuss Landing. Even if you do not have kids, you can appreciate the awe and wonder of this island (except for the annoying island soundtrack). My favorite part of the whole area was just taking pictures of all those whacky Seuss things from the books that I treasure! Everywhere you turn there is a reference to a book!

Cat in the Hat

Facts: Ride through the book in 3.5 minutes
Personal Experience: B (pretty tame, well it is a kiddie ride)

Just read the book “Cat in the Hat” and imagine yourself in a little cart as you turn the pages of the book…that is the ride.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

islandsseussonefish.jpg

SeussLanding9.jpg

Facts: Seuss version of Dumbo, but wet…2 minutes

Think Dumbo, but think Dr. Seuss…think up and down but still in a circle and the ability to get wet. The good thing is that on cooler mornings and days, the ride does not spray water on the riders!

Caro-Seuss-El

SeussLanding13.jpg

Facts: Old-fashioned carousel with Seuss figures

I loved sending time just looking at all the amazing Seuss figures and playing name the book with my friend Pam, as well as snapping away with the camera.

High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride

islandsseussfromabove.jpg

islandsseussride.jpg

Facts: Aerial Train Ride...with 2 seperate train tracks (2 different rides each with 2 different sound tracks...so 4 rides in 1)
Personal Experience: C

We walked right onto the ride the day we went. Think train ride but in the sky above Seuss Landing. There is lots of great Seuss characters to see...oh the places you will go (even through the middle of the Circus McGurkus Cafe). I loved being able to take great pictures of the surrounding "Islands" in the park. It was a nice peaceful ride, well as peaceful as the soundtracks in Seuss landing go!

You are helping me to remember our trip to US/IOA. I really liked both the suess area and the Lost Continent. :goodvibes

Tammie, Tammie, Tammie, Tammie, Tammie... :upsidedow

Your pictures make me want to figure out how to take my family over to IOA, etc. during our trip... We would have to add days... it's not going to happen... promised Eddie we would be home for Christmas... :rolleyes1

Hey, what happened to our motto...What's one more day!

Today is Monday...today I get my hiney in gear for photopass pictures come December. There is no excuse with photo pass photographers around that I should not be in pictures with my family this vacation. So if you do not mind, I am also going to turn this PTR into some accountablity to stick with a plan and get some weight off! Feel free to join me and offer some kick in the pants when I am not doing so good and cheers when I do well!

Lots to look forward trip wise this week. I plan to book our return flight by this time next week! Also, Saturday I finally get to do that double digit dance!:thumbsup2

Great pics. I have been to Islands of Adventure but have never been to Seuss Landing. I would love to see it.

Okay - so I'm playing off of the clue "first full length feature animation" which I think was Snow White... and if so, it was the Evil Queen. But then again... :confused3 if it wasn't Snow White, then I'm wrong... so I'm going with the Evil Queen from Snow White... ;)
