What a Friday night it was...I had planned a nice quiet and easy movie and dinner night for Ab & Goo (dh went to our cabin to open it up for the summer/take in a little fishing for his birthday while Boo went to a sleepover at a friends)...it did not turn out as planned....
My name is Cami, and I don't feel good....
On Friday morning, I noticed that Cami was acting a little strange. She is usually a ball of fire but not this morning. DH said she just had not woken up yet and was fine. When I got home that evening, she was still acting that way. We brought her in the house and all she wanted was someone to hold her (which is not very easy anymore because she is about 25 pounds now at 3 1/2 months). I tried to get her to eat and drink...but she just had no interest. Finally, after the movie was done I called my FIL (who is a dog breeder and lives down the street) to come and look at her...he told me to take her to the vet...of course the only one open is the emergency vet ($$$$), but I love that dang puppy. Sure enough, she has parvo (yes, she has had all of her shots, but we live near the edge of town and people dump lots of dogs so we have lots of strays...therefore lots of issues with disease). I called dh, knowing that this was either going to cost us lots of money or cost us a puppy. She is such a good dog (in terms of having a lot of natural retrieving instinct and yes a great personality), the kids adore her, and she was quite expensive in the first place...we have to try to save her. So I wrote the check to start treatment, left her at the vets, and went home with 2 upset children (they know that parvo is not good because of grandad's puppies...and not many live). I told them they had to pray to God and St. Francis to take care of their puppy.
So far today, things look good with her. She is showing some improvement...so hopefully she will be home in a few days (although I am scared to death of what the final bill will be...the first 36 hours of care cost me $642 last night...thank goodness I listen to Dave Ramsey and have an emergency fund...)
Thanks for reading about my puppy, say a little prayer for her if you will!
All this on top of having to come home afterwards and get 6 dozen cookies baked and decorated for Ab's church youth group fundraiser dinner...it was a LONG NIGHT!
