I've looked at pictures of both and for the life of me, I can't figure out the difference. Can someone enlighten me?
A dedicated 2BR will not have a kitchenette in the 2nd bedroom and will not have a door leading to the hotel hallway. It will have 2 real beds, not a sofa bed with the exception being OKW, which will have 2 real beds regardless. A 2BR lockoff is basically a 1BR + a studio with an interior connecting door.I've looked at pictures of both and for the life of me, I can't figure out the difference. Can someone enlighten me?
Keep in mind OKW is a little of an exception here.
In a dedicated 2BR, the second bedroom will have two real beds. There is no kitchenette in that bedroom. There is no exterior door.
In a lock-off, the 2nd bedroom is really a studio. So you get 1 real bed and some sort of sofabed or pulldown, there is a kitchenette, and there is a door to the outside.
Generally speaking, there are use cases where the extra exterior door and kitchenette can make sense - grandparents, adults in the bedroom, etc. Then there are some that having the extra space and no door make more sense, like if you're putting younger children in that second bedroom space.
Well, think about it. A lock-off is a 1BR that attaches to a studio. They can be booked as separate units.OK, that tells me that the floor plans I've been looking at that are labeled as lock-offs are not in fact lock-offs. I have not seen any floor plans with an extra exterior door.
If you're on the first floor at least you could climb in and out through the windowIf that studio "bedroom" doesn't have an external door... awkward, no?
Also the 2br lock-offs with balconies would have a divider between the studio balcony and 1 bedroom balcony.
We've stayed in dedicated 2 BR's at Kidani and VGF and both had balconies that ran the entire length with no dividers. In a dedicated 2 BR the balconies are also divided. The living room is in between the 2 balconies. There is a door to get out to the balcony from the living room and slider from the BR.
I'd expect Lock Off balconies to bee divided, since the 1BR and the studio would each have a balcony when booked separately. We've stayed in dedicated 2 BR's at Kidani and VGF and both had balconies that ran the entire length with no dividers.
Correct, those would be...I was replying to the message saying dedicated 2BR's were also be divided.I'd expect Lock Off balconies to bee divided, since the 1BR and the studio would each have a balcony when booked separately.

True. I've heard it as a concern in the past, especially with Disney-child aged children - both relative to balconies/patios and the exterior doors. If I were the person who booked a dedicated for that reason and got moved to a lockoff, I would likely express deep unhappiness.Although we did two bedroom lockoffs with our own kids growing up because we owned BWV and didn't have any problems. But I can see how some people would want to make sure there wasn't an exterior door. By middle school they loved having their own kitchenette where they could make popcorn and hot chocolate and be "grown ups."
Sorry, for some reason I was thinking this post was about BLT specifically. We've stayed in dedicated 2 BR's at Kidani and VGF and both had balconies that ran the entire length with no dividers.
We had a balcony at BWV that was open to the studio next to us (we were in the one bedroom portion).I'd expect Lock Off balconies to bee divided, since the 1BR and the studio would each have a balcony when booked separately.
