Is this doable? Or should I try and get a grand villa? We'd like to invite my aunt, her husband, and 2 kids to Disneyworld. It would be their first time and our second. I sent her some info on prices but now that we have SSR, I'd like to ask them to stay with us to help them on the price of hotel.

It would be too crowded for me, but perhaps it would work for you. Think about sleeping arrangements. 2 in the Master bedroom (king bed), 2 on the pullout in the living room and 4 in the second bedroom (which will have either 1 queen and a pullout or 2 queens if you get a dedicated 2 bedroom). There would be no place for the 9th person to sleep unless one of the kids is an infant and able to use the portable Pac 'n Play crib. DVC resorts do not provide rollaways, cots or extra bedding to accomodate more than the stated maximum per unit. For a 2 bedroom, that is 8 persons plus an infant.

Anyway, I would not be comfortable having people sleep in the living room/kitchen area for more than one night or so (again, JMHO). If you can swing the Grand Villa - go for it! You will not be sorry. The living area & kitchen will remain available for anyone who wants to stay up a little later or get up a little earlier - to say nothing of having a little privacy or a dining table large enough for you all to eat at the same time, LOL!

Best wishes-

My only problem with the grand villa is that I'd have to rent some points. I think its 501 points for a week at OKW in a grand villa. Would I have a hard time getting a grand villa at 7 months out for June? Whereas, the 2 br I could borrow points and might have to rent maybe 6 points which is a lot better for us. One other thing is, they may say yes they can come and then change their minds a couple months before hand.

Or maybe I could just do 2 studios. Or a 1 br and studio..

Now, that I think about it I think a 2 br villa would work. My dd, dh, and I could sleep in the master bedroom, my mom and my son could sleep on the sleeper sofa and my aunt and her kids could have the 2 queen bedroom!

If you do indeed have 9 persons in a 2BR, you are violating the provisions of your ownership. Some will tell you not to worry about it, but I know that I take such things seriously and would not do it. If there is a reasonable probability of having 9, I would get a 1BR (in which apparently MS is allowing 5) and a studio. That way you can cancel the studio if you aunt decides not to come (you can't just downsize to a 1BR from a 2BR without cancelling and rebooking the reservation should you desire to do so later).

How old are the children? If one is not under age 3, you will have a problem, because you wont be able to do any of the on-site things that require IDs like extra magic hour etc. A child under 3 doesn't need one, but if all the children are over 3, you will need IDs for them to participate. You will onliy get 8 IDs for a 2 bedroom. I guess I might look at doing the 2 bedroom if you have children in the right age group. If you stay at OKW, the extra sofa (loveseat) in the living room makes a nice bed for a small child. Now, with all of that being said....I would either get a GV or a 2 bedroom plus a studio. A 2 bedroom plus a studio for a week in Magic season would total 439 points at SSR. At OKW it would be 405 points. A GV for that time at SSR would be 719 points. Unless you could trade points with someone who owns at OKW, I doubt you would be able to get an OKW GV at 7 months.

It's a good question but one that is guaranteed to give you conflicting answers here. I would call MS and run the scenario by them. They may be able to help you decide what you should do.

Good luck!

Our upcoming trip we have 4 kids (well they're with us always :) ), and 4 adults since the grandparents are joining us.

Our last trip is was just the 6 of us and now we are so SPOILED!!! Before our first trip we tried to talk mom and dad to come with us..

"we'll have room.. it sleeps 8. "
"Come on, it'll be fun"
"Don't you want to experience WDW with the grandkids?"

All the guilt in the world didn't work, they didn't come..........

This upcoming trip they ARE coming, but WE are NOT going to stuff us all in our 2bd room. NO Way, NO How!!! We offered to borrow points to get the grand villa but they opted to stay at the campgrounds.

It was so nice having a room for the kids to go to and sleep, while DH and I could snuggle in front of the tv, watch tv, enjoy the balcony. If we had our extra two people with us then we would have been doing all that either in front of them, or we would have felt like we'd have to sit in our room all the time.

You never know how much someone is going to sleep. You will be at the "mercy" when it comes to the kitchen/dining area. You may feel guilty wanting to go in the kitchen to get something to drink/snack while your son/mother is still sleeping.

Not to mention.. the washer and dryers are SO LOUD! I would hate to be sleeping in the living room while they are going.

Whatever you choose I hope you have a great time!

if you want to help them with the costs, then how about you using the points for a grand villa for the weeknight nights, and have them pay the cash price for the weekends?? Of course unless you were totally treating them! sure it would cost some, but nothing like if they were to do it on their own. That way everyone would be comfortable.

Depending on the age of the children, it still may work out. Remember OKW has larger units than the rest so changing over at the 7 month window may be an option.

DVC will not allow 9 in a two bedroom. If you don't think you can get a grand villa in time, opt for a two bedroom and a one bedroom.

You can request that they are next or near to each other. DVC will try their best to accomodate your request.

Please do not try to fit 9 in a two bedroom, you will make it difficult for all involved.

We've decided to rent our points for the year and remodel our house. If we decide to go summer '06 we'll probably stay at asmo.
