2-bd at SSR or OKW?

Ok. I need some help here.

I am soon going to be making my very first DVC reservation. I have the choice of a 2-bd at SSR or OKW and I am torn between the 2. Travelling will be my DH, DD (3 1/2 then) and MIL and FIL from England. My in-laws have never been to WDW and I am planning on being their tourguide and hitting all of the hightlights Disney has to offer.

Which resort do you think we would like better. I really don't mind theme-ing (anything is fine), we're not "pool people" although my DD might want to swim an afternoon or two, we're not planning on eating at the DVC resort (more in the parks or cook ourselves). I do care about the cleanliness of the rooms and transportation to the parks since we will be there everyday.

Thanks in advance for your advice and help! :goodvibes

I would choose OKW, the rooms are much larger.

I'd choose OKW because I think your family from England will love the theme and getting the 100% Florida experience. :thumbsup2

Got to agree with the previous posters - go for OKW. The rooms are larger and its a nice spread-out place so the pace is a bit more laid back.

OKW, plus, you'll probably use fewer points for your stay.

I'd go with OKW also. The rooms are larger; I prefer the decor, and the bus transportation has always been better for me at OKW

I'd like to be the first to recommend SSR. Walking distance to DTD, beautiful landscaping, and I love the pool (even though you said that was not as important to you).

My DH is from the UK and he loves the theming at OKW. OKW has the largest villas with a big open kitchen, a good sized dining table and a large veranda with a large table and four chairs that just invites you to sit outside with your morning coffee. If you haven't already looked at the 360-degree tours and the floor plans on the public DVC website, I would recommend that to you so that you can see just how much larger the villas are at OKW.

Good luck with your decision!

another vote for okw- we stayed in a 2br at okw with extended family and it was so spacious. I think we'd have been cramped at ssr.

OKW, and you can walk to DTD from there also in nearly the same amount of time if you happen to be staying on the South Point side of OKW. While the decor is fine at SSR, It seems a bit formal and stuffy to us, and the apartment feel just doesn't feel as much like a vacation home as OKW's large townhome style does. OKW is going to be "Florida", and SSR is going to be upstate New York. Also, the size of the OKW villas are not to be beat, and the in laws will feel more like they have their own space. Also, bus transportation at OKW has always been great for us at OKW. In the early years that wasn't true, but the past 8 years or so we have had exemplary bus service.

I am having the same decision to make for our upcoming November trip. Bringing parents, need two bedroom unit and sure that OKW and SSR will be our only options.

One question for myself and the OP to those of you who are recommending OKW. (I have stayed at SSR but not OKW) I have read that OKW rooms are really looking pretty old.....how say you?

In my one experience at OKW I would say yes- the rooms are a bit more course then SSR. Also they are much more casual by design, so even if it is a perfect, newly rehabbed OKW room- the SSR room will have a more upscale feel and look.
I like the casual style of OKW, it goes with the theme.

Great thread, I have had the same questions for an upcomming trip. We moved ours from SSR 2BR to OKW mainly for the extra 400 sq ft. I'm a firm believer that all resorts are great and offer their own unique atmosphere. Can't go wrong with any of them so.........I figured why not go with 40% more space and I save myself 31pts:cool1: Sounds like another trip to WDW for the wife and I .........alone:cheer2:

OKW and SSR are my home resorts and I love them both. Having said that, when I want a 2-bedroom, I will always pick OKW if available. The room is just soooooo much bigger!
The resort also has a much more "Floridian" feel to it. I think you'll love it.

One difference between the two that may or not be of issue, SSR has elevators and OKW does not. If you are on the 3rd floor at OKW, will this be an issue to the in-laws? If not, and since you are with extended family, I too vote for OKW. The main reason is that there is more room in the living room area for everyone to sit and visit. SSR has a sofa, chair, and a table with wall bench. OKW has a sofa, chair, loveseat plus a round table w/4 chairs. The bathroom issue at OKW does not seem to apply to your situation (buildings 1-29 only have bathroom access through the bedrooms, none from the living area). We love our SSR, but really love the extra space at OKW.

Thanks for all of the replies, they really helped. Well, today I made my first ever DVC reservation for a 2-bd at OKW!

You guys rock! :thumbsup2 :cool1: :yay: :cheer2:
