I am planning my bi-annual Disney trip and this time we will have Myself, my spouse, my daughter and 2 grandkids for a total of 5. Like most of us, we are on a budget but we MUST have the dining plan. I have priced out the trip with 2 rooms at POP vs 1 room for 5 at Port Orleans Riverside(one of the grandchildren would be on a trundle bed:confused: ). The price is about $100 difference. We have stayed at POP and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! We have never stayed at Port Orleans Riverside but a friend did and she loved it too. Is there anyone out there that has stayed at both and have a preference? If so, can you share? Pretty Please.

with pop you would get 4 double beds and 2 bathrooms

with POR you would get 2 double beds and a trundle bed - plus 1 bathroom.

that many ladies would go for the 2 bathrooms. :confused3

I'd go with the 2 bathrooms as well! + 2 TV's!

Keep in mind an adjoining room and a connecting room are two different things. Connecting rooms have just the door between them and adjoining rooms, you have to go out to. Usually they are close to each other. We had connecting rooms at POP when we were there and we are a family of 5. I loved the 4 beds, 2 bathrooms & 2 TV's. My kids are 16,13 and 6 and even though POR is a little less expensive, we would have been much too cramped.

I will start by saying that I love POR, but stayed at POP with 5 in our party in June 08' Can't beat the 2 bathrooms and privacy for you and your DH. Ask for connecting rooms, and you will love the space. We really enjoyed POP and would stay there again without hesitation.

After talking to my husband last night, he agree's with all of you! 4 beds, 2 bathrooms and 2 tv's~~~I realize that was a pretty crazy question! LOL:rotfl:

I hope that one room is a King and the other is a double. Maybe I can request that with Connecting rooms. My daughter is actually an adult, she is 19 and then my 2 grandkids that will be with us for this trip are both 12-1 boy, 1 girl. So they would be great in a connecting room together, the 2 girls can share a bed!

Thank you all again for all of your opinions.

Wow, you sound just like us, me, DH, DS14, DS12, and DD8, and my name is Lisa too!. Never stayed at POP or POR-Riverside but just know there is NO way we can all fit into one room and have any room to move without being on top of each other constantly. That in mind, we have 2 rooms reserved at POP for Feb. Since there are only 2 adults, I was told by the CM and my confirmation shows that they will GUARANTEE a connecting room for us. I was wondering about the Family Suites at AsMu. Anyone have opinions of that? The benefit would be having the little kitchen area with a fridge.

I stayed at ASM years ago and I did check into the suites this year. If you look at the floor plan it looks like they just added 2 rooms together, added a kitchen area and made it into a suite, that is a great idea, but.............it was going to cost $1000 more for the suite vs 2 rooms at POP and I know that I'm not going to cook so.......no kitchen for me. If you are doing the dining plan, I say you don't need a kitchen but if you aren't then a kitchen would be there in case you wanted to cook.

I just did a price out with the suite and NO dining plan vs 2 rooms at POP with the dining plan for my family, adding the dining plan with 2 rooms at POP is only $400 more and soooooooooooo well worth it. I could also do the 2 rooms at POP with the "NEW" quick service dining plan that gives you 2 snacks and 2 counter service meals per day and it is only $85 more than the suite. This is for a family of 5.

So personal opinion, I would stick with the 2 rooms at POP with the one of the dining plans, IF it is in your budget.

Have fun! I wish I was going in February, I have to wait till December!

no question is silly.

POR works for families with little ones. they can kept a watchfully eye on both (or more) kids.

Are you sure? Did you account for needing (and having to pay for) two rooms per night?
Value season: $82 standard times 2 = $164, vs $184 for a Family Suite
Value season: $94 preferred times 2 = $188, vs $184 for a Family Suite
Summer season, weekend (higher) rate: $119 standard X 2 = $238, vs $270 for a Family Suite
Summer season, weekend (higher) rate: $131 preferred X 2 = $262, vs $270 for a Family Suite
Holiday season, weekend (higher) rate: $139 standard X 2 = $278, vs $315 for a Family Suite
Holiday season, weekend (higher) rate: $151 preferred X 2 = $302, vs $315 for a Family Suite

For the Family Suite to cost $1000 more than two value rooms, you would have had to be looking at standard room locations for a minimum of 27 nights during Holiday season.

ASM Suite 5 people, 3 adults & 2 kids 12/12 through 12/18
No Water Park
with dinning plan
$4762+ change

POP w/ 2 rooms 5 people, 3 adults & 2 kids 12/12 through 12/18
No water park
with dining plan
$3797.72

You're talking 2008 right? ;)

I checked on the Disney TA site and I got $3650 for the ASM suites including the park hoppers and dining planfor 3 adults and 2 children. :confused3

PM me if you'd like more info- I'd love to help!:thumbsup2

hmmm...here's what the site is coming up with for me 12/12-12/18:

Family suite w/dining plan
3 adults, 2 children (age 12)
7 day park hoppers w/o water parks
$3798.65

POP and ASMU standard both come up as unavailable, but I got this for ASSP:

Room 1 ASSP standard w/dining plan
2 adults
7 day park hoppers w/o water parks
$1576.46

Room 2 ASSP standard w/dining plan
1 adult, 2 children (age 12)
7 day park hoppers w/o water parks
$2086.71

TOTAL 2 room packages at ASSP: $3663.17

if you're considering value, family suite is in a preferred location and gives you a fridge, even if you don't plan on cooking

I didn't say the Family Suite is cheaper than two separate Value Resort rooms; merely that a Family Suite can't cost $1000 more than the two individual rooms until you get to a three week or more stay.

The prices in post # 13, above, show a difference of $135.48. This is a relatively small price to pay to GUARANTEE that all members of the party will have access to every part of both rooms, i.e. Family Suite.

OK, I'm really bored (ahem...avoiding housework :rotfl: ) so I plugged in 2009 dates as well and still came out significantly lower for the family suites than $4762. Maybe you unintentionally added in some extra options or a different package level?

Family suite w/dining plan
3 adults, 2 children (age 12)
7 day park hoppers w/o water parks
$3933.20

Room 1 POP standard w/dining plan
2 adults
7 day park hoppers w/o water parks
$1630.28

Room 2 POP standard w/dining plan
1 adult, 2 children (age 12)
7 day park hoppers w/o water parks
$2167.44

TOTAL 2 room packages at POP: $3797.72

Okay, the OP is visiting entirely in Value Season.
Value room = $82 per night, times two rooms, times six nights: $984
Tax on room = $127.92
Total room cost = $1,111.92
Family Suite = $184 per night, times six nights: $1,104
Tax on room = $143.52
Total suite cost = 1,247.52
Difference in total hotel cost: $135.60

Package components NOT affecting the difference in pricing:
Adult Dining Plan = Three adults + two 'Disney adults*' @ $37.99 per night times six nights = $1,139.70 (same price whether Guests stay in one suite or in two regular rooms).
Adult park admission = Three adults + two 'Disney adults' times seven days, with Hopper option: $1,390 (same price whether Guests stay in one suite or in two regular rooms).
Tax on tickets: $90.35
Ticket total: $1,480.35

Prices calculated using individual component prices - which is why they're different from the other two responses:
Two regular rooms, total "package" price $3,731.32
One Family Suite, total "package" price $3,867.57

*Children 10 and over are adults for dining and ticketing purposes

a) we're both really bored
b) we're both seekers of truth
c) we're both just obsessed

take your pick

:rotfl2:

So, no matter which comparison we use, the price difference is never more than $150 for the six nights.

Granted, it's not my money - but again, it seems like a small (especially relative to the entire cost) price to pay for the peace of mind of being 100% positive all members of the party will have access to all areas of the entire unit being occupied.
