My DD is 2 1/2 and only "partly" potty trained (kind of like "a little pregnant";) ).

Does anyone have experience or any wisdom to share about sending "older" kids to Flounders? Did you get paged a lot? Are there potty facilities in case she wants to "try" to use them?

Also, has anyone had a problem with swim diapers being allowed at the pool?

Thanks!
Renee

I like the "little pregnant" comment! LOL!

At any rate, I can't help with FLounders, but she will not be allowed in teh pool in a swim diaper. Maybe she'll be completely trained before you sail?

I can tell you that Flounders does have potty facilities, and they will ask on the form you fill out if she is/isn't trained. Also, any child who isn't fully trained, isn't allowed in any of the pools onboard due to USPH regulations, regardless of swimming diapers.

is this rule about no swim diapers new?..we're planning our next cruise and our youngest will be 21/2...last cruise we went on our oldest was 2 and swam frequently in the pools with a swim diaper on...we even bought them in the gift shop

It's been in place on DCL since approx October 2002. It was in place on my sailing in November 2002.

It is not strictly enforced but Cathy from DU sent out a news letter last week that mentioned that water jet sprays had been installed around the Mickey Pool on Deck 9 for little ones that are not potty trained. They are the type at Down town and such.

I personally think it is a perfect solution because I spent most of the time chasing my young son around the Mickey pool. I think he will get a kick out of the water sprays but it will be hard to keep him out of the pool but I am 80% sure he will be fully trained.

I "think" if the child is not fully trained they have to use Flounders but I could be wrong. Read the thread by Web Master Michelle at the top of this board about the child care rules.

Just a note too, because swim diapers are NOT allowed they also no longer sell them on the ship. The requirement is that only fully potty-trained children are allowed in the pools.

Our almost 3DD...was not completely potty trained on our 1/18 western cruise. We used Flounders numerous times - did not get paged. I can't recall if they had a potty for her to use - hopefully someone can answer this.

Each time we picked her up she was changed into 'bed clothes' and had on a clean diaper. Whenever we walked past Flounders...she wanted to go in.

I'd suggest getting to Flounders early during the 'ressie scramble'. They fill up fast and can only take a limited number of 'little ones'. If you want additional time...try calling/stopping by to see if they have openings - in case they get some cancellations.

Our experience with Flounders was OUTSTANDING!!!

Ok...how do they verify that a child is potty trained before they swim in the pool...is there a test or something? :)

I think a dead give away would be the child's age or a swim diaper showing or the child having a "accident".

But of course that can be wrong, my 20 month old DS is 32 pounds and wears 3T clothes so he could pass for a 2-3 year old easily. Except for the fact he speaks caveman language still, is not potty trained and acts like a 20 month old.

When we were at WDW I even had a lady ask me if something is wrong with him since he does not do more.......I explained that he is only 16 months old and the lady said oh I thought he was 2 or 3 :(...............
