Our home DVC resort is BCV. We’ve been members since the spring of 2002. Since then we’ve taken 2 or 3 trips each year, usually in early spring or early fall of the year. Until this trip we’d stayed at all of the DVC resorts except for VB, OKW, and SSR. Now, we can scratch SSR off of the list.

This was a spur of the moment trip. Two weeks ago we got the bug. The DW called member services and given our short notice there were two resorts available—OKW and SSR. We picked a SSR studio for March 18, 19, & 20. I won’t go into a lot of detail but we were very content with our room. We asked for and got a room in one of the buildings just across the street from the High Rock Spring pool (room 4232), check-in, and restaurant area.

The room was just about what we expected as we have stayed in similarly arranged studios at HH, BCV, BWV, and WLV but of course the décor was a bit different than at the other resorts. The room was clean. There were two small problems that didn’t affect our stay at all. The first, apparently there had been something on the wall right next to the bed and immediately over the night stand but it was removed and the fastener was all that remained. The second, there was a chip in the lip of the coffee pot. I can understand how it may have gotten chipped because the counter top is stone and the sink is deep, but small and narrow so it’s no wonder that the coffee pot was chipped (I knocked it around a couple of times myself drawing water).

We took the bus to Epcot on Sunday and it took us about 20 minutes from the time we got to the bus stop at SSR until we pulled into EPCOT and pretty much the same on the way back.

Two evenings we took the boat over to Down Town Disney, shopped a bit, ate dinner and returned. These excursions were pleasant and we didn’t have any problems going over or coming back.

Because we are contemplating a longer term trip next February we decided to check out OKW. We were thinking about a studio but before committing we wanted to actually see one. So, we drove over to OKW, spoke with a CM at check-in and soon we were off to see an OKW one bedroom, as no studio’s were available. Happily, we were able to see a studio and a one bedroom. We were not very impressed with the studio, but not because it wasn’t nice, because it was very nice. We felt a studio with two queen beds would not meet our needs during a long term stay because we want the seating area that a couch would provide. However, the one bedroom was everything everyone ever said, it was bigger than the other one bedroom units we’ve stayed in and it was laid out very nicely. So, now we are thinking about staying in a OKW one bedroom for my upcoming retirement present.

All in all it was a nice trip, we had no complaints, and SSR is just about what we expected. It's nice to know you can get a place on such short notice. While we prefer BCV and remain happy with BCV as our 1st choice of DVC properties if we had older teens or young adults with us, SSR would be a great 2nd choice given the proximity to the night life nearby at Down Town Disney and Pleasure Island.

I hope others will find this brief trip report informative.

Thanks for taking the time to write a post about your trip. I found it enjoyable to read about both of the resorts. I too am curious to see the larger rooms of OKW, especially the grand villa.

Its great to read that its possible to like and enjoy multiple resorts within the DVC!

Take Care! :wave2:

Thanks for the report. And best wishes on your upcoming retirement. I can't think of any better way to celebrate than with a long vacation in a 1 BR at OKW.

Nice report. I hope you do get to stay in a 1 BR at OKW to celebrate your retirement. We found that having all that space really allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves during our stay there.

congratulations on your up coming retirement!!! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

yes going to OKW in a 1-bedroom to celebrate - great idea! :cheer2:

Glad to hear you had a nice time! OKW is a good choice for your next trip :thumbsup2

Although we own at SSR, we have not yet stayed there. Our initial visit to WDW as at OKW for a few days after the Wonder. As I had injured my back, I had an opportunity to spend a great deal of time in our one-bedroom at OKW. I loved it! Had no problems whatsoever with the unit nor the service. Did manage to go out and explore a bit of OKW (and DTD once the meds kicked in), and found OKW delightful. In fact, we're pursuing a small contract there to make sure that, with proper planning, we can get in at really busy times and as a vote of confidence for OKW. I guess it's what I expected Florida to be like.

We'll be staying at SSR after the DVC members' cruise this October and are looking forward to that, too. We did manage to talk our way into a tour of SSR when we were there in January without waiting for the time set aside for DVC owners. Very nice in a very different way. I would agree with you that SSR studios will be better for a party of two than OKW studios, but if there are 3 or 4, OKW gives you two beds so no one is forced to sleep on the fold out. That was fine as a youth; not so fine now!

OKW sounds like a great place to celebrate your retirement - here's to many more trips. It's heartening to hear good things that people enjoy about the different resorts.

Thanks for the nice report on SSR. I love reading about a good time. Happy retirement :thumbsup2

Great report, and I think you will LOVE a 1 bedroom at OKW for your retirement! We actually only stay in 1,2, and 3 bedroom units (not the studio type), so I know you'll love it!

Thanks for the great report. I can't wait to take a stroll around SSR when we go soon.

You'll love staying at OKW in a 1 bdr. They are very roomy.

Happy Retirement!

It was nice to read a report from someone who does not see the diversity of the resorts as flaws but as opportunities to fill the needs for all of our varied tastes and types of trips.
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement.

Ditto from me!

Thanks so much for your report and may you enjoy a happy and fulfilling retirement. We bought at SSR also and have not had our first stay yet. We rented at BWV and VWL and decided DVC was the way to go. We do have young people in our family so I think being close to the night life may be a plus. I am very anxious to try this resort and am keeping my fingers crossed that we love it there.
