My wife and I are thrilled to be new BLT owners about to go there for the first time. We leave Thursday by car from the Baltimore area and should arrive Friday midday.

Taking 3 generations: grandma and grandpop, and my wife's sister and her three sons (8, 10, 13). None of them have been to WDW!

Trip will be a bit of a hopping one. Staying at the Dolphin in a big suite for the first two nights. Then 4 at BLT and 2 at AKL Jambo villas. Then the family leaves and my wife and I do 4 nights at SSR!!

A little worried about the heat, but have built in pool/rest each day. Anyone have any other advice for early August touring?

Tons of fun ADRs planned with various buffets like Biergarten, Trails End and Boma for the hungry boys. Even T-Rex.

So I'll try to update as we go. Hope this 4 resort extravaganza is a blast for all!

Hi BLTWildcat,
That sounds like a wonderful trip with lots of memories to be made. Enjoy your first trip home as a DVC member. :goodvibes Looking forward to your live updates. :thumbsup2

We're new members too. We have to wait until October for our first trip. Sounds like a fun vacation - and a long one - how lucky! I'm sure the two of you will enjoy those last 4 days by yourself!:goodvibesWe went with my husbands sister's family and parents this past February and had a blast.

Congrats and welcome to DVC! I hope your family loves it as much as we do! One of my FAVORITE things is being able to invite lots of friends and family with us...

It will be hot...we went in June 2009. We went out early each morning and late afternoons. Mid-day was spent at the pool or having long lunches...not park touring since I cant take the heat...utilizing the Extra Magic Hours helped some.

Have a great time...

We will be at the WDW with you. We fly out of BWI early on Friday and will also be doing a split stay. We are starting in a studio for our family of four until Sunday, got to THV when our friend and her two kids joing us for five nights, then into a 1 bedroom at BWV with just our family for the last two nights when she leaves.

I am hoping the heat won't be too bad and we will deal with it either way! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you are on a mission! Have fun, good luck

Enjoy your first DVC trip of many! :goodvibes

We will be heading down on the 15th for our 4th trip to Orlando during August in the last 4 years ('06 trip was to Universal). The pool time is essential....we also plan a day at one of the water parks. We've also had trips when we've spent the better part of a day a Disney Quest in DTD. We make sure we mix in the attractions that have A/C (love Philarmagic for this) so we can cool off and catch our breath. We leave the parks in the early afternoon (by 2pm) and return to a park after dinner.

Stay cool! :sunny:

Great idea for a first time DVC vacation. My family also is in the process of a DVC purchase and i hope to take the fam along just as you are. Exciting times!!!

Now getting grandma to take a plane is another story:)

We've taken several August trips-and always have a great time. If you can get to the parks when they open it makes such a difference. Then by lunch time you can head back to your beautiful resort for pool time and/or naps. Enjoy the first of many stays and be sure to tell us about your trip when you get back. :)

All the kind words and advice have us even more excited. Thanks to all who affirmed my plan to survive the heat.

A quick question for you SSR folks. I want to call tomorrow, 10 days out from my SSR arrival, and request the best building to be in, but which is it? This is the leg of our trip when it's just down to my wife and me (both hale and hearty, basically). Want to be somewhat close to lobby if possible. We will have a car, but are fine to not have to always be using it if bus service is OK. Any advice on a location to request? Thanks for the help!

I like the GrandStand section or Congress Park. It is a very relaxing resort.

I have my first trip to BLT on August 26 and I can't wait.

We stayed in the Grandstand section a few years ago and we were in the 8501 to 8836 block of villas (if you look at the map of the resort on the member site). Loved this location....it was a short walk to the main building/pool, it was right next to the GS quiet pool and the GS section is the first stop on the bus route (at least it was in '07).

Wow, that Grandstand section sounds perfect. Although we are thrilled to be new DVC/BLT owners, I look forward to eventually trying all the DVC resorts. Knocking three out with this one trip!!

I appreciate your heat advice and now SSR insight. Enjoy OKW! We're going to go over to have breakfast at Olivia's one SSR morning so we can check it out.
