1st timer-please tell me it is not like this....

I completely agree! The front desk CM's were VERY rude to us when we needed our new room number on 5/5/03. We had to move rooms after the 1st night (the elevator mechanism was RIGHT above our 1st studio). They told us to call back after a certain time to get our room number. The first CM was very rude to my DH and put him through to some random department just to get rid of the call. The 2nd CM he talked to (when he called back) was equally rude and gave us a room number for which our keys didn't work. I went down to the desk to get our keys corrected, and 2 CM's at the desk were incredibly rude about that, too! They acted bothered to have to do their jobs. I was polite to them, but I should have actually voiced my opinion on their rudeness right then and there. I walked away feeling like I wanted to leave BCV and go home right then and there:( This was just 2 weeks ago...if you ask me, something is going on at this resort, and I will NOT stay there again until they fix it!

Ok I am going to chime in on the ant situation at the BC. We were there last August and left our car in the parking lot unused for a few days. There was NO FOOD left in our car. There was not even any old garbage left in the car. It was clean and closed up. When I went back into the car to use it after sitting for 3 days it was loaded with army ants! YUCK! They were EVERYWHERE! I had to go to Goodings to buy bug spray and clean out my car. Where did they come from? When I got back to the resort I did notice a big gulp size pop laying on the ground where I was parked. Do you think the dried up soda in there attracted them? I don't know. I of course did not park by there again but many rows away and there were no future problems. However, daily I did then go and open up our car just because now I was afraid that ants would come back. They didn't, but it was a bad experience!

I am sorry you had a bad experience for your first trip as a DVC member. We also did so I can really understand your disappointment. We just went back last winter and had a great time. For the most part our BCV was clean. A few things I had to tidy up/clean, no big deal. The biggest problem was that there was a DIRTY kid's sock in our bed that didn't belong to our family! GROSS. BCV had better "clean" up their act or they are going to lose business.:(

this is in response to laceemouse...not seeing red ants in a house....I live in SW Florida & I get red ants in my house about 3-4 times a year. They get in my closets, my bathrooms....and in other odd places. My sister lives in NE FLorida & she has the red ants too...one night they got into her son's bed & he was bit so many times he had to go to the dr's. As far as ants (any type) being drawn to food...yes it is true BUT.... you don't have to have crumbs to have ants... I just finished killing about 5 little black ants in my bathroom sink! So living in FL (or visiting) ants & other insects are a fact of life, no matter how clean you are.......

FYI folks ....these were Fire Ants. confirmed by maintaince although he thought them feral and to young to bite, sting whatever. This unfortuneatly turned out to not be the case for us, they did bite/sting. I just looked at the terminex link, provided by another kind poster. And the description on the bites is right on the money. They looked just as described oozing, looking blisters almost like a chicken pox blister would appear. I was putting bacitracin on them, cause they looked infected. But from reading the terminex link, it appears that is how they are supposed to look.

This is absolutely giving me the heebie jeebies! I really, really hope this problem is gone by December. Also, I read the other thread and what the maintenance man said makes no sense to me whatsoever-The ants were "feral" so shouldn't bite??? As what, opposed to "tame" ants who do? And how did he know how old the ants were??? It sounds like he was just blowing a smoke screen to me!! I mean ants are ants, red or black, and no one would want to lie in a bed that was swarming with either of them-biting or not!

YUCK!!!!! YUCK!!!!!!!! and more YUCK!!!!!!!!!!

We've stayed at HHI, OKW and VWL without problems and are staying at Boardwalk for the first time. It sounds like the ant thing is isolated to the BCV. Anybody have any wicked ant invasion at BW (other than the balcony issue)?

I saw the original post by twinmomplus2 and was uneasy, but now I'm really on edge. We're going to close in 3 weeks on 230 new points - 200 of which are at BCV. I'm wondering if I should call our guide and put all the points at BW and do the paperwork again. I know the problem will eventually be fixed, but we're supposed to stay at BCV in July as well.

I also just this am got a call from DVC this am saying that my waitlist for the 1BR at BCV came through for the last three nights of our stay. I was going to have to move to VWL where we'd have a 2BR. When I got the call I was thrilled and I went online here to share the joy.......Now I don't know what to do :(

Please do not cancel your plans, over my bad experience. We stayed at Beach Club Last August and had no problems. Other than a weirdo valet, thats another story. Look at it this way. with everyone now aware of the benches, and ants being a problem in May. not just for me, but others as well. They should be paying extra close attention to this by now. And although I did voice my concerns and have not heard back, which I may say I find odd. I also forwarded a copy of my 2 threads to them. And as they I am told, normally check this site anyway. I would say you can be a 100% sure, they are paying attention to theses issues now. There are alot of people second guessing them at this point. So they will have no choice but to be proactive. It is just as simple as that. Go ahead, odds are great you will be ok.

Thanks twinmomplus2 for the reassurance. I'm just not thrilled to see this kind of issue after we've committed significant $$$$ to the add-on points. There are always issues on the board and none have phased me much, but this one is unsettling. I definitely would have waited to buy points at BCV until later....buying all BW points instead because those have been harder to come by. Now I'm just too tired to undo the paperwork.

As for our trip in July...I know njziggy had ants in 425. What rooms did you have ants in - 417? Just trying to avoid the area where they have been found.

Thanks in advance for the info.

I just looked at the Room Reports area of this board and ironically there are not many reports at all listed. If you click on "Beach Club Villas" on each line you get the room reports. Ironically, the first one opened had a report of the cushions falling off the kitchen bench! But no reports of ants.

That was my room report, A 2 bedroom lock off 219 and 221 correct. There were no ants, it was immaculate, however the bench was broken, That is the unit the babies head got stuck in. There should also be a report on 407, reflecting ants and the bench being broken.

Just got back from our first trip home to BCV on Thurs, May 15. We were in room 422 and didn't have any problems with ants (a few on the balcony but that seems natural). Found the staff to be very friendly and accomodating. Had a great time. Funny how people can travel almost the same days and stay in the same resort and have such different experiences. I'm hoping our trips will always be this good and yours will be much better next time.

They have an ant problem and they should attack it all out. They are not and they are just sitting on there butts letting these things happen and handing out free meals etc to the guests. It is management's problem not the guests when this kind of problem happens. They should have specialists there to get rid of the bugs, just cleaning will not do, anyone that knows anything about ants will tell you that. Also there could and I stress "could" be a problem with the management there and their attitude toward DVC guests only, treating them different then other guests. I could see how this could happen and may be harder to get rid of then the bugs, if and I stress if, that is the case. NOW this ought to scare some people, a ten month old child was killed today from being bitten by ants, the mother found the baby covered with ants, rushed him to hospital but it was too late. Do you think something is being done about the ants after that story hits Eisnerworld, I think the ant problem will be history very shortly, attendance is down enough at WDW and with the orange alert going into effect today who knows how that will effect people let alone ants.

Stayed at BCV in October 2002 and Janaury 2003 and had no problem either time. The January trip was a first floor 2BR unit(#134 I think) with shrubs and mulch right outside the patio door, and I didn't see a bug in my unit of any kind, ants or anything else. It seems to me like the ants are in the rooms numbered in the 400's...maybe there's a nest or something somewhere near there?

As far as CMs, I have found them all to be very nice and accomodating. Haven't seen any "attitude" toward us as DVCers yet.

WHAAAAAAATTT!!!!
You're seriously going to equate what are probably carpenter or sugar ants which invade houses and do very little damage to humans to fire ants which stay outside in mounds and can kill?
Could it be that your obvious anger at Disney (for whatever reason) is impairing your judgement?

Didn't the OP say that they were fire ants, not carpentar or sugar ants? If that is so, then yes the poster has a right to be concerned and not just showing anger at Disney. I love Disney too but I had a problem with ants in my car as I previously posted. Noone was harmed from the incident but it was a pain in the neck. However, if we had a bunch of fire ants in our villa and they attacked while we were sleeping then I would have a big problem with that. Not only is it gross but I am highly allergic and need an epi pen and a trip to the ER if bit. If they are fire ants, then it is a BIG problem that Disney needs to fix.:D

Given that the Villas are maintained out of the DVC annual dues, this should not be chalked up to 'budgetary constraints', but does anyone know if the BCV have their own dedicated staff or if the maintenance/mousekeeping staff is borrowed from the BC itself? That might have a bearing on things as we'd noticed a marked decline in cleanliness throughout the World during the first week of May.

Wilderness01, you can at least take the consolation that your car is now cleaner than it was before the ant invasion...pesticide residue aside. :)

Hopefully DVC management does lurk in these boards...this seems like an issue that bears immediate attention. But, as mentioned, it is up to us, the DVC owners to not provide the incentive for critters to come visiting...and mousekeeping needs to do a better job as well...on our recent stay at BCV we found the broiler pan sitting in the oven with the crispy remnants of someone's burnt dinner still on it.

-Joe, who should be writing proposals for work but isn't.

Joe,

You are definately right my car was cleaner! LOL

However the car stunk so bad afterwards and that was a problem for myself and my kids who are asthmatic! Always something you know!!!

:D
