We have always flown out of Detroit Metro, but we got better pricing out of Flint Bishop (?) Airport. I'm a bit apprehensive since never been there.
How much is parking? Any other comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I wish we were flying out of there!!! For 1 it is closer to us but it a lot less busy Also it's smaller & easy and quicker to get around. It's been a long time since I flew out of there but I think i remember the one draw back was lack of stores/ restaurants to keep you busy. Not that big of deal. What airline are you flying? isn't airtrans the only one that flys direct? We were waiting for the prices to go down but we got a good deal through spirit and couldn't pass it up. You should have a strees free no brainer check-in. ;)

Brock-
We too are flying out of Flint for the first time at the end of the month  But our neighbor has been flying AIrtran out of there over the last few months. He said parking is about 1/2 of what it is at Metro. Also he really like the fact that it is so small, less hassle and walking. He has been flying airtran and Northwest out of there and said if he doesn't have to he won't fly out of Metro anymore.

You will love flying out of Flint. Easy to get to from either I69 or I75. Parking right out front and small lines. The airport is clean and plenty of seating. Have a great trip

I LOVE  the airport in Flint because it's so small! It's a very short walk to/from the parking lot, it's clean, updated (as compared to Detroit Metro), car rentals are right next to the luggage pick-up. Employees are helpful and friendly. Rest rooms are clean and plentiful...I could go on and on... :cheer2:
It is true that aren't a lot of dining choices, but that's minor compared to the other benefits.
I can't help with the cost of parking, but if you go to the Flint airport web site I'm sure it will be listed.

Jumping in here to say I'm glad to hear good things about the Flint airport. We're flying out of there next week and are a bunch of newbie flyers. So it's nice to hear that it's nice and easy to use.

So, glad to hear the positive feedback !!
I got lots of info & good feedback on these DIS boards before booking our flights!
We are flying non-stop on AirTran.....
Thanks All !!

Now my 7 yr old DD wants to pick out some Smiley Dudes, here she goes:

We just flew to Orlando and back this past week from Flint Bishop. It's a great airport to fly out of. We parked in the economy lot (DH dropped us off at front door, drove to economy lot across the street and came back by the free airport shuttle and it only took 5 minutes (if that)).

We were there Friday morning and left Monday night around midnight and our bill for parking was $20. They have a website that lists all the parking fees per parking lot and it also has a lot of useful information. You'll never want to fly out of Metro again after this experience!

Glad you had a great experience. I'll have to check out the web.
Thanks :thumbsup2

Man I'm so jealous of you all (but happy for you) That you all are flying out of flint. Okay the curious cat has a hold of me and I'm wondering how everyone got a better deal going out of flint. We looked and waited forever Did anyone get a good fare just after Thanksgiving?

But, we are flying out on Sat, Nov 11th adn Returning Sat, Nov 18th.....
It was cheaper to fly AirTran, Non-Stop from Flint Bishop to Orlando then it was non-stop out of Metro Romulus.....
I was on the prowl and hounding airfares & airline sites before snagging an awesome deal of less then $200 per person, which was the best I could find. Now that same flight is up to $320 per person !!
Whew......
Good Luck !!!
And I'm thrilled to hear how nice Bishop Flint sounds, Thanks All !! :butterfly :dogdance: :mickeyjum

We were watching but when spirit came out w/ prices around $180 (total $748 for 4) for metro I didn't want to lose that deal. I think we may get a hotel for the night by the airport at least we won't have as much travel time for our early a.m. flight.

You aren't going to believe it, but those are the same days we're traveling out of Flint!!
I'll have my 2DS, 1DH, 1D Mom and Dad,
and my sis and her family....We'll all have green shirts on and green mm on our packs!
Maybe we'll see ya :cool1:

Just chiming in here to say that I've flown out of Flint a number of times, and it is such a pleasant experience! Very quiet, laidback airport.

As someone else mentioned, I too park in the Economy Lot and take the free shuttle over to the airport. Works great! Rates are very reasonable, I think. I just looked back at my CC statements. I paid $37.75 for 9 days in Feb., and $42.00 for 10 days in April.

I've traveled a couple times with my senior citizen parents recently, and departing from Flint makes it much easier.

I haven't flown out of Metro in a few years now, but I will if a far better fare would come up. I'd rather not, because Flint is so much easier all the way around. :thumbsup2

We had the Wendy's a+ rewards to use so we definitely wanted to fly airtran. I first booked the kids flights at $114 each way. About 1-2 weeks before we left Airtran had a sale from Orlando to Flint for $69 each. Airtran gave me the credit to use towards another flight. I have enough credit to fly my daughter to Florida in the spring when her ball team goes down on spring break. I think Airtran is awesome. We had a weather delay on the way home and they were very forthcoming with information as decisions were made. We were about an hour and a half behind schedule and arrived about an hour later than originally scheduled. I will recommend them again and again.

Its hard to decide to fly on an Airline I've never flown on before. Its sooooooo comforting to read all these positive comments about Flint & AirTran !!
I was wondering too about if the price came down after we booked our flights...........I figured they would "credit" us the difference if we called them on it...... :wave2:

 According to Air Tran's web site, if you change an existing reservation (if you found a cheaper fare), they charge a $50 per person change fee. So unless your airfare drops more than $50 it wouldn't make sense to change it.
Too bad Southwest doesn't fly out of Flint, they don't have a fee to change reservations.
