1st time F&W, MNSSHP, Africa Trek & no kids! (Updated 5/11/14)

Just thought I would pop over and say hello

Loving your pictures....

Your sense of humor has me just :rotfl2:

I am anxious to read all about how you enjoyed F&W. I have been a couple times now, but never with dh. I want to try something new... the regional lunch is something I have been considering. :goodvibes

Can't wait to read more. :goodvibes

Great updates!! The luncheon looks like a lot of fun. I would be thankful for someone like you at our table, because I have a hard time starting conversations with strangers. But in that kind of environment where you are sitting with people you don't know for a couple hours, it's nice to have someone break the ice and get everyone talking! :thumbsup2 The ravioli and the short ribs look amazing. What a great F&W experience!

I'm glad you didn't have to see your lunch again after experiencing M:S Green! :lmao: I have only ever done orange, but I don't think I could attempt it so shortly after a big meal like that!

Thanks so much for your kind words and I'm glad you made the trip over. We loved F&W so much we are returning this October. As for my sense of humor....well....when conversing with others, one can either dazzle with their brilliance or baffle with their bull....I do much more baffling than dazzling! Glad you're enjoying the TR. More to come!

As a young lad, I was very shy and normally embarrassed when either of my parents would have a conversation with someone they did not know. As I've gotten older (I would say more mature but no one would believe that!), either I've gotten over my shyness or my filter between my brain and my mouth has worn out so that I'll say just about anything to anyone.

The luncheon was REALLY good and well worth the $'s. We hope to try the one in France this fall and maybe another one in Morocco or Japan....but not right before Mission Space! :scared1:

Spicy hand roll and a Green Tea Colada

The sushi roll was one of the best kiosk offerings we had all week and the green tea colada was very refreshing.

(Continued in next post)

I know I was away, but how did I get so seriously behind BEFORE I went away? :confused3 My apologies for being such a slacker.

Anyway, I would have to agree that the hand roll was relish. I did not try the green tea colada, but it looks yummy.

BPS - I'll have to remember that one! :rotfl2:

OMG - What a nightmare at CMC. That is ridiculous! That hostess needs to be retrained for sure and I am shocked at the attitude of the manager.

Now back to read!

Wow - now that is MY kind of meal. Just knowing that each one of those glasses was going to be filled with wine would be enough to break the ice for me! Each of the entrees looks so yummy. So glad you enjoyed it. It really looks like a fun experience.

I had no idea there were two deaths on mission space. I thought it was one. I am a green teamer too. I get too dizzy on the centrifuge, although in my younger years I loved that kind of stuff.

I promise to keep up from now on. :thumbsup2

I almost forgot - we say CarDenny, too - the guy with the rubics cube. How the HECK did he do that??????

F&W is such a great venue, especially for the adventurous eater! Where else can you try different foods (and adult beverages :drinking1 ) from 30 different countries, all within walking distance of each other and for a reasonable price? We enjoyed it so much we decided before we left that we wanted to come back again this year . . . and we are!! :thumbsup2

I can only assume the CM at CMC was new or having a bad hair day or something. :( If that's the only problem we ever have on ANY trip we take, I'll be happy! You gotta roll with the punches!

This was one of the highlights of this trip. They do similar luncheons in France, Morocco and Japan that we will try and book this October.

I have never gotten queasy on ANY ride before my orange side experience a few years ago and now I'm hesitant to push it. I feel so much like a wuss that I have to ride the green side now. :sad2:

I almost forgot - we say CarDenny, too - the guy with the rubics cube. How the HECK did he do that??????
That guy is amazing!! His card tricks are really good too. The Boardwalk is such a fun place to wrap up your hectic day by taking a leisurely walk and stopping to watch the entertainers. It's one of the reasons we sold our OKW and VWL points to consolidate at BCV and BWV. I love all the other DVC resorts but it sure is nice to be so close to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with all the activities in the area.

I'm finally here!!!

:rolleyes1

But speaking of that- I tried using the link in your signature and it didn't bring me here. I'm not sure if it is the address in the link, my computer or just DIS being wonky (imagine that). Perhaps someone else could try clicking on your link to see what happens.

Sorry to hear about the lack of a welcome when you checked in. Now that you mention it, we experienced the same thing in July. On our previous two visits, we were welcomed by name and brought to checkin. This summer, I had to mention that I was there to check in. An issue with the changeover to online checkin? I don't know.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the views from your room. I am glad you were able to get a room that met your requests. I know BCV is often full and sometimes it is difficult to accommodate requests at check-in.

May I add your view pictures to the BCV room thread I have in the photo sub-forum?

I have read some nightmare stories about the Guest Services at the IG- it is ok when things go smoothly, but if you are behind someone with issues... :scared1:

I'm glad someone was able to help you!

Too funny about your small world connections at the photo place and at Aulani. I sincerely believe we all have common connections- the trick is to find them.

I look forward to seeing your dining ratings. We really like Sunshine Seasons. One of my top 3 Disney QS (CHH and Tangierine Café round out the trifecta)

LOVE Living with the Land.

I'll come back and catch up, headed to volunteer at the high school library this morning.

Now I have read page 2:

Your meal at Chefs looked really good. We have never been.

Great pictures of Remy! Too bad he is no longer making appearances there :(

We were pretty stuffed and it had been a long day so we decided to meander on back to BCV. That is what is so nice about staying at Beach Club, Yacht Club or the Boardwalk. A short walk and you’re home.

::yes::

As we were walking over the bridge between France and UK, there was a PhotoPass photographer taking pics with France in the background. We paid for it so why not use it, right? Here is his first pic

Then he told me to give her a kiss so I had to oblige

As I handed him my PP+ card to scan, I leaned in and told the CM, “You know, you really shouldn’t ask a brother and sister to kiss for a picture” and walked away. DW looked at the CM and asked me what I said to him. I asked her why and she said he had a look of total shock on his face. I told her what I said and because we’ve been married over 31 years, she wasn’t nearly as shocked. She just gave me her normal rolling of the eyes along with a shaking of the head and a quiet sigh that said, “Why am I not surprised?” :rotfl2:

That is hilarious!!! :rotfl2:

I love that PP spot!

TP had today at MK as its “Best Park” to visit with a 1.1 out of 10.0 crowd level! Practically empty, right? WRONG!

We arrived at 8:55am hoping to catch the pre-rope drop show. Here I will allow for my incompetence…when does the opening show begin? If it is when the park opens (at 9am today), then they did not have a show today. If it is earlier, we just missed it.

:scared1: That really is a crowded entrance!

That's a good question. The only thing I know, because we always do the early Extra Magic Hour, is that the opening show is at 8 am and there isn't a 9 am show. But I can't remember exactly what time it starts. I'll have to go back and check some of my pictures to see if I have the train station clock in the frame.

Our next ride was on Splash Mountain

DW lost her hat but thankfully the people behind us caught it! Oh...and be prepared for crazy face ride pics...it's become a thing of ours!

I love this ride picture. Every single expression of the riders is interesting!

:lmao:

Page 3

Really fabulous Country Bear photos!!! We haven't been to this attraction since the boys' first trip in 2004 (ages 6 and 3), but my DH and I have seen this show many time and the memories came flooding back seeing your photos.

Loved your pictures from It's a Small World. Been awhile on this one too. Unless my husband and I have a solo trip, or the boats start floating a lot faster or upside down, we probably won't be back real soon. Maybe in Disneyland this summer.

:cool1: for bonus Big Thunder!

Enchanted Tales with Belle looks like a really cute show, but again, the boys have no interest in this.

Great ride Photo from Buzz!

I'll catch up with you in EPCOT soon.

:goodvibes

Glad you are here! I think the erroneous TR link was my bad! :rolleyes2 Here in Mississippi if the squirrel isn't running fast enough in the wheel, the electricity gets kinda wonky on this computer thingy...try it now.

We were surprised that NO ONE approached us but what the heck...they probably missed out on some witty repartee from yours truly thus denying them a "you won't believe what happened today" story to tell the other CM's! :rotfl2:

Please feel free to use any pictures you wish. I know I've used your thread often enough to make plans so if someone else might get an idea or tip or two, great! :thumbsup2

Invariably someone will have a problem at any of the Guest Services...I just hope it's not us!

Too funny about your small world connections at the photo place and at Aulani. I sincerely believe we all have common connections- the trick is to find them.
I'm thinking you're a glass "half-full" kinda gal? :cool1:

We never think about Sunshine Seasons but are always pleased when we eat there. I'd put it in our top 3 QS as well along with Tangierine Cafe and Flaming Tree BBQ. We've not tried CHH but it appears our tastes are similar so we'll have to give it a go!

Now I have read page 2:

Great pictures of Remy! Too bad he is no longer making appearances there :(
It was our first time at Chefs and we liked it. The primary reason to visit was to see Remy but it was a bonus that the food was pretty good too. It didn't hurt DW's feeling either that the CM that waited on us was, in her words, "easy on the eyes"! :rotfl:

That is hilarious!!! :rotfl2:

I love that PP spot!
I wouldn't doubt if the bridge to France is one of the most photo-op places in EPCOT....however, if someone we know keeps making crazy comments to the PP CM's...they might have problems finding someone to take that spot...or it might be that it becomes a coveted spot with the added entertainment!!! :rolleyes1

I have never made it to rope drop but I plan on making at least one this year!

Hey...when you have good subjects, you can take good pictures! :woohoo:

Thank you ma'am for the kind words. It was our first time to Country Bear in a long time. It's corny but we like it (what does that say about us?) But if for no other reason, it's a great place to get out of the hot sun!

Loved your pictures from It's a Small World. Been awhile on this one too. Unless my husband and I have a solo trip, or the boats start floating a lot faster or upside down, we probably won't be back real soon. Maybe in Disneyland this summer.
We have to do IASW every time we go. It's become kind of a tradition thing.

Enchanted Tales with Belle looks like a really cute show, but again, the boys have no interest in this.
Maybe the boys would enjoy it if they volunteered to participate? Here's a tip though, don't jump up and down saying "Pick me, Pick me!" Belle tends to be a bit wary of old fat men that do that (not that I know anyone that did that!) :rolleyes1

Glad you are here! I think the erroneous TR link was my bad! :rolleyes2 Here in Mississippi if the squirrel isn't running fast enough in the wheel, the electricity gets kinda wonky on this computer thingy...try it now.

All better now!

:goodvibes

I have never made it to rope drop but I plan on making at least one this year!

I just checked my pictures from 2011- we did one day at the MK, not extra magic hours since we were staying offsite- and it looks like the clock reads 8:50 during the opening show.

Kind of hard to see, but when I look at a larger version of the picture, I can make out the time.

I am caught up now.

:woohoo:

Someday I need to make it to Disney for F&W and MNSSHP! I am a very adventurous diner and everything I have seen from the kiosks looks tempting. My son Ben (12) also loves to eat and sample different foods, so he really wants to go during this time as well.

I haven't seen pictures of the F&W passports, or I don't remember seeing them. I love the concept!!!

The World Showcase performers have some really impressive talent, but we rarely stop to watch them. Commando family and all that. I have never even seen the Ziti sisters walking by Italy.

Your story about the girl waiting to meet Jaz and Aladdin was really funny.

UGH on your experience about waiting for a table at Cape May. Entirely inexcusable!!! I am not terribly impressed with Disney's ADR system. A couple of times on our last trip, the CMs were not able to locate our names and when I offered to give our confirmation number we were told "Oh, we don't have that info"

Then why the heck do they give us one???

We have enjoyed our meals at Cape May, but it is not a great place to go when you are tired, though. We once went on the evening of our arrival day and found that a buffet was not a great idea when we had been awake since 3 am.

The seminar sounds awesome though!!! I'm glad you were seated with an decent group and you enjoyed interacting with them.

Thanks for the M:S background. I love that sort of stuff. The attraction is definitely a lot different from Horizons. I have only tried the Green side. My husband and youngest son have braved Orange. The title of that chapter was

"I puked! Three times!" as exclaimed with delight only a 9 year old can express in that situation.

:rotfl2:

Yea!! Gonna try to get an update in tomorrow.

You really should try ASAP. The kiosks are great to try something new for a minimal price instead of ordering something similar at a restaurant at a much higher price.

The World Showcase performers have some really impressive talent, but we rarely stop to watch them. Commando family and all that. I have never even seen the Ziti sisters walking by Italy.
Like Remy @ Les Chefs, Bistro de Paris, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Skyway Tram, the Candy lady in Japan, etc, the Ziti Sisters will soon be a fond memory. I read somewhere they will soon be history. Sighhhhh

Your story about the girl waiting to meet Jaz and Aladdin was really funny.
She was hilarious to watch. I was sure she would pee in her pants! :sad2:

Well....Cape May will not be on our "A" list for the foreseeable future.

For us, it was a highlight of F&W. I can't wait to try a similar seminar in France, Japan or Morocco this October!

LOL I feel your pain. I'll try the orange again one day....in the distant future!

Saw this at work earlier today and bookmarked it. All caught up. I was excited to read this as this year i'm there for F&W a few days and am doing MNSSHP...

Have the Backstage Magic tour scheduled but not sure if i want that or Wild Africa Trek... decisions decisions...

Glad you're joining the TR! We will be back for F&W this October after such a great experience this past October. Stay tuned for more on this TR because we did the Wild Africa Trek too! And if you want to read about the Back Stage Tour, visit this link here for info on our experience with it in Nov, 2010.

I just clicked on the link for your November 2010 TR and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't know you took the back stage tour. It does sound really cool. I think I am about due for another tour. Have you ever done the Steam Trains tour? I think that would be really cool. I'll have to try to talk Denny into it.

Anyway - I didn't finish it yet, but what an excellent TR. What a great way to spend your anniversary trip. And V&A's - nice! I am sad they are dropping it off the TIW card. Figures. Boo!

I think it's about time for an update to this TR so here we go. This day was Tuesday, October 22nd. In store for us today is to tour the new DVC Villas at the Grand Floridian, come back to the room and change into our costumes for MNSSHP tonight and dinner at Be Our Guest restaurant....

We signed up to tour the new DVC villas at the Grand Floridian. We knew this would be a sales pitch but I can honestly say we were not pressured in the least bit. We were not sure what to expect. Getting from resort to resort using the bus/monorail/boat system is not the easiest. It wasn’t designed to be. You’re supposed to go from your resort to a park and return, not resort to resort. With that said, we took our car and it was a short 15 minute ride instead of the 50 minute estimated bus/monorail ride. We met at Citrico’s inside the Grand Floridian. I did not expect this but they had a breakfast buffet waiting. Here is my plate

I have to tell you, it was REALLY good for a buffet and in case you are wondering about the item in the spoon…why it was a “spoonful of sugar” and it went down very well even without medicine! After about 30 minutes, they started the presentation by asking questions from the attendees…who has owned DVC the longest, who was the newest member, who had gone to the parks the most times and who was the grumpiest person! The first three were determined easily enough but for the grumpiest person in the room, the wife at the table next to us immediately pointed out her husband! I think the daggers I was eyeballing DW with told her to not volunteer me! They brought these 4 “victims” up front and asked 4 questions. A random guest picked out of the audience chose which victim would answer that question. With the help of the hostess and the audience they got all the Disney trivia questions correct and each attendee received a pin, a tote bag and a lithograph. Here they are

After this short presentation, we were escorted in groups of 6-8 over to the new Villas at the Grand Floridian to tour the lobby, a 2br lock off and a 3br Grand Villa. OMG! OMG! OMG! The villas were to open the next day and there was LOTS of last minute maintenance and construction still going on but let me tell you, these pictures do not do this place justice. The “T” shaped building to the right is the location of the new DVC Villas

A few pics as we walked over

Now over to a 2br lockoff

Afterwards you chose whether or not to discuss with a DVC CM about purchasing. We did. No pressure at all. CM Dave explained how the guaranteed week worked and the points needed and the price per point. Of course he wanted us to commit then but there really was no pressure to do so. We did not and it was difficult to fend off the addonitis bug. That place is fantastic but we NEVER make a major purchase decision without sleeping on it. We’re still sleeping on it as of this date. :sad1:

CM Dave did tell us that the day they started selling DVC points for the VGF, they had the biggest day ever for DVC. 60,000 points were sold at $150/point for over $9 million in sales on day one! As of our tour day (October 22nd), 3 of the guaranteed weeks had already sold out (Christmas week, Thanksgiving week and the 3rd week of August) and the resort wasn’t officially opened yet! I suspect, and CM Dave agreed, that in a short period of time, the price will increase above the then current $150 construction phase price. This resort is the smallest DVC resort so the chances of getting in at the 7 month window will be slim to none. We would LOVE to buy here but we are waiting to see what the new DVC villas at the Polynesian will look like. Those aren’t due to open until next year so we have a while to save up. In the meantime, we need to "bunk" with some friends that have already purchased at VGF....know anyone? er...MEK...friend...buddy...pal?? :lmao:
