Hi

Were going to POR in May 2 adults and 3 little girls,,8,,5,,3 for 3 weeks, from the Uk

Never stayed on site b4, only Int Drive, so really looking forward to living & breathing disney for 3 whole weeks.

Would appreciate any tips for locations,, transport, eating etc from anyone whos stayed at POr with young children,

Cheers:wave:

Hi how are things on the other side of the pond? I would suggest requesting a building near the restaurant and bus stops. I would also suggest that you take the boat ride to DTD it is very scenic. Enjoy the resort, take a walk in around the grounds, take the carriage ride if you can. Overall have a good time.

Try the taco salad in the food court. It's delicious, comes in a dough bowl, and is well worth the price. :earsboy: :earsboy:

We stayed in AB Bld14 this last time. I choose blg 14 based on its location to the restautants and all other main buildings. I felt like this was a 6 key resort at a 5 key price. The AB area is so well landscaped we would get up early just to walk around it. The mansions are very nice looking and we walked there also but we like the quiet forest feel of the AB area. This resort also has a free boat ride to Downtown Disney that is very nice. It takes maybe 20 minutes and is very relaxing. The fast food restaurant is very nice and your kids will prefer it. We ate breakfast at Boatwrights and the meals are so large we ended up ordering one and splitting it, this is a hug money saver. The main bus stations outside of the giftshop can get quite busy at times. We also noticed that by the time we made the rounds to the other bus pick ups, the bus was sometimes full and had to bypass them so try and board at this main gate bus stop if possible. My wife still prefers the Poly but my favorite is POR, enjoy...smjj

Seeing as there are five of you, you will be in the Alligator Bayou section of the resort and have the trundle bed. You will LOVE this area, as well as the entire place. Request bldg's 14 or 15, very close to the food court and main bldg. This is so important as you are staying so long. It is so very beautiful every where you go. Take at least a day to enjoy it, you won't regret the rest and relaxation it affords. The main pool is a blast for all of you, especially the fun slide! They have a wonderful jacuzzi here too for the achey, tired feet. Have a frozen margarita at this pool and sit back and relax! There are laundry facilities at the quiet pools too. Bring a roll of quarters (or two) for this.
The food court is very good and the price is right. The cheeseburgers are great. As was said, take the boat one night to downtown disney, a fantastic way to go back and forth. They have a wonderful gift shop that we stopped at each night to browse...got our oj and milk for the morning here, much cheaper than the food court. Bring your own cereal (without the boxes) and have your bfast in your room and rent the fridge, saves tremendous money and time in the morning. YOu will absolutely love your stay here. Enjoy every minute of it. :D

another POR 1st timer question...

Does the POR or FQ gift shop sell little containers of milk?
ie - own cereal breakfast in room idea

How about snacks for muchies ?

The AB rooms with a trundle sound nice - even with a family of 4 with a DS & DD.
Do all AB rooms have trundle beds ?

I hope my questions help scousemouse36 also :)

Yes, the gift shop sells milk. It is very handy to have with breakfast back in your room. And like I said it is cheaper to buy here than the food court. I am not sure about munchies, we always brought our own, so I never focused on that. The trundle is great, but would really not fit a child over age 10 or so, its small and I do believe they are in all of the AB rooms.

Thanks for all your replies. especially Jillpie for being so detailed.

we are so excited, we cant sleep and we got 12 weeks to go yet!

Do any of you think it is worth getting a car for the flexibility.

Cheers

The do sell some snacks in the store. Chips and stuff like that. Not a huge selection but some stuff.

It all depends on how long you will be staying and how much the car will cost you, I think. Personally, we don't rent a car. The Disney transportation is just fine with us. I guess it would be a matter of personal opinion. We usually go for 10 days, so spending an extra $400 or so on a car just isn't worth it for us.

Your welcome ;) . You will not need a car at all. The transportation to the parks is awesome. In five trips, we have never had a problem with the buses. At times, waiting happens. But thats ok, its vacation, its just more time to rest the weary feet. Oh, and if you are especially tired at the end of a night and are waiting to go back to POR and the bus coming toward you is going to be standing room only...wait for the next bus. It took me about three trips to realize its really ok to step back and let anyone else that wants to stand the whole way back to do so. Now we just wait for the next empty bus to get a seat. The buses are very good, you really don't need anything else. Now that we are DVC members we won't be using POR much anymore (although we love it so much we're thinking about one night to start our next vacation before moving into the villa), but I just love this place. So any more questions, feel free to ask away or email me. Have fun! :D

Hi Jillpie

Thanks again, hope you dont mind the questions?

We are staying for 3 weeks and not sure if we should get Ultimate hopper passs or go for the Prem ann pass.

Any thoughts

Cheers

It's generally a better bargain to get the AP for anything more than 8 nights.

You get some discounts with it and if the AP codes come out soon (as we all are hoping) .:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
you might be able to get a discount on your room
Have a great trip. We'll be there for 2 weeks in April

Another vote for how great POR is! Request building 14. I prefer the 2nd floor. It was quieter.

If you're staying 3 weeks I'd definitely rent a car. You can go to the grocery store and get milk and snacks SO much cheaper than at the resort.

Have an awesome time!
