Ok, so, I know many of you are probably so happy to hear me say that I made my first reservation. I am super happy that I now have the ability to make a reservation! :cool1: However, I am so disappointed that we had to book a 1 bdrm at SSR. When she told me that was the only thing available, I almost cried. Now, I know y'all probably have a picture of me being super needy and such, but, I am really not that hard to please. We really wanted a studio, anywhere for the time frame. And, we were more than willing to do a split stay. All that was available was for a day here and there. Our travel dates are October 8-16.

I am trying to put it in perspective. It is Disney, we will have a great time. I just hate to use all the points....

We have waitlisted for AKL, Kidani, savannah, stuidio, and BLT, studio, lake view. The CM told me that something like 86% of WL's come through, so, we shall see.

I am off to look at pictures of SSR and try to get excited about staying there.

Thanks everyone for sticking with me through the process. It was nice to hear, "Welcome Home!" for the first time!

I would not be too disappointed you are booking late. Hopefully your wait list will come through. You can also call periodically and check for other resorts.

If you really want a studio anywhere, I would recommend making at least one of your waitlists SSR. There are 400+ studios there, and there are no booking categories, so they are all in the same inventory pool. That will maximize your chances of getting one.

But, yes, almost crying over not getting your preferred room type might be viewed as just a tad needy in some circles. The real problem with a 1BR is that it will be very hard to go back to studios after you have the extra space and amenities. It's just a qualitatively different experience.

That is exactly why I wanted the studio...I don't want our first stay to be in a one bedroom, and then everyone expects to have that extra space every time we stay. To me, I see it as a waste of points. All the kids will end up in our room anyway, so, why spend the extra money on the extra space? Also, we are on the dining plan, so again, why spend the money for a full kitchen. I will call back and change the WL to a studio at SSR. I was a bit overwhelmed when I was on the phone, as I didn't expect to actually be in the system when I made the reservation. I just did a WL for what the CM suggested, that is why I ended up with the WL for what I did. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

If you have enough points, make the days available in a different name for the studio and WL what you need to at that resort. SSR will be the easiest followed by OKW. For your situations, I'd do SSR.

You will survive going backwards though - we have done it. We have stayed in as large as a 2 BR and still just stayed in a studio over Easter and plan on the same next Easter. Is it as nice? No, of course not, but you make do if you have to. I think you should just suck it up and be happy. Maybe your wait list will come through.

(Also you do realize your dates are peak DVC time - from October through December is always very busy.)

The problem with WL is that they have to have the whole thing come open at the same time. Also, if you borrowed any points, then you can't unborrow the points. If you went back to studio, you could bank the points to the next UY. My suggestion would be to call MS again and see what you can work out. I'm surprised that there are no studios available at SSR and OKW. If you are really wanting studios, then you may try to get a day here, day there, a 1 BR day here, etc. Personally, I dislike split stays and would not go that option, but that may be a way to get studio rooms. Good luck.

Our first two stays were split stays and while they are not our favorite, it was a nice way to try a few different resorts. So if you could get a few days at AKL, then a few at SSR, it could work out nice!

We really love the one resort stays, but sometimes a split isn't all bad! Our next trip is 4 nights at BCV with a lot of DHS, Epcot and SAB. Then 4 nights at BLT for a lot of MK, MNNSHP, and MK's 40th B-day!!!

OP, so sorry that your first DVC reservation is a disappointment. October is a very popular time to use DVC, so that is part of the problem. I agree that SSR is your best odds. And I also encourage you to call periodically in a studio because then you can gradually whittle your waitlist down to fewer days--and that will increase your odds.
Good luck! Hopefully your next reservation can be made further in advance and you will get exactly what you want on the first try! :thumbsup2

Try to be hopeful and not too disappointed. Our first stay as DVC members was in a 1 bedroom at SSR...not what we wanted at all but it ended up being wonderful!

Sending Pixie Dust that your WL comes through!

You are so doomed:lmao:. The problem isn't the space as much as the full laundry and kitchen in the room. You may find yourself eating in the room more (like breakfast and dinner), taking more afternoon breaks and enjoying down time in the livingroom while the kids sleep in the bedroom. Good luck, but I feel for ya :cool1:.

I would struggle through the misery the best you can and have a great vacation, realizing that you're WAY better off than you were before the purchase.

Next trip you will have the ability to plan much farther ahead -- as timesharing requires -- and will likely have a better result.

I feel your pain, 3. I am in the same situation you are. We are just going the week before you and the only thing available was SSR.

We are going for the Food & Wine Festival and the only thing available was a studio at SSR.

On the positive side, SSR is a very short ride to EPCOT. So hopefully that will make the buses quicker.

Woo-hoo! Thrilled that your member ID and points FINALLY showed up. Now for the rest...

When we first joined, I was a points Scrooge. I didn't want to spend one more than I had to. To some extent, I still watch points, but as we stayed at different resorts and had different needs, it's not as big of a deal to me. You'll fall into a pattern of what works for you guys, which may mean adding on more points or sticking with what you have.

As for SSR, it and OKW are tied for my favorite DVC resort. If you guys enjoy walks, working out, going to the spa and/or DTD, you can't beat it. The grounds are beautiful, and the workout facility is awesome! We've REALLY enjoyed our stays there. My kids like the main pool, too. If you end up having to stay at SSR, I hope you have a wonderful time!

Once again, congrats on your points and :welcome: HOME!!!

I kind of go with the flow, make lemon aide of lemons...you know! I would plan to stay at the 1 bedroom and cancel the dining plan!! save the money, just make a grocery list and plan that way! I am going down, last minute on June 6th. I just joined DVC, got BLT for first 3 nights, than added 2 nights, I got SSR, so I planned on MK first half, DTD second half, and today I booked 2 more nights at AKV Jambo! I am so happy, it is now a full week! so I will do the AK at that time.

I would just plan accordingly! and plan to take advantage of the kitchen!

Now the reality of the DVC starts to set in. As time goes on you will learn the ins and outs as a owner, not as someone reading posts on the internet. In the near future, you will transition from commando mode where you hit the parks all day to a family staying at a beautiful resort at WDW. You will be spending more time in your room so a 1 bedroom will be something that you will appreciate. When this happens, you will be looking for a add on contract and after stays at several different resorts, you will find out which resort is your favorite and you will most likely buy there.

:welcome: Home!

If you want to book during Food & Wine Festival, you need to book much farther ahead. The same is true of other busy times of year, which are not necessarily the same times that the regular resorts are most busy. Maybe somebody on the DIS boards can post the busiest DVC times so you can, in the future, plan ahead most effectively.

I think you would really like the 1 bedroom with your family. Sure you may wind up all sleeping in one room, but it's great to have a place for the adults while the kids are going to sleep.
