We're planning our 1st family trip to disney and I'm super excited!! I have a question on when is the best time to go? I want to avoid the crowds as much as possible. We're looking at either 2nd week in May or in September. Any advice would be helpful:) thanks °o°

I would choose May. We went once in September and it was ridiculously HOT. I thought I was going to melt. I think the weather would be much nicer in May and the crowd levels should be decent then too. Congratulations on your first trip! That is super exciting! I think the first trip is the most magical. Have a great time! :goodvibespixiedust:

Congratulations on planning your first family trip!

Between the two months, I would suggest going in September. Some schools will have started back and you will be able to partake in the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party if you so choose.

Hope y'all have a great time!

I would definitely do September so that you could do MNSSHP. It is amazing and definitely worth the cost of the tickets.

May. Hands down. We went the second week in May 2013, and so far that's my favorite time to go. It's not too hot, but warm enough for the pool. The crowds were also low. Plus you get to see the gardens at Epcot during the flower festival. So cool! I advise against September for several reasons, unless you specifically want to attend MNSSHP. First, it is HOT. Really hot. And really humid. I am in Houston, and our weather is virtually identical to Orlando. I detest September. It's miserable. You are also entering prime hurricane season, and even if you don't get a hurricane, it can be very rainy in September. Also, MNSSHP will cause Magic Kingdom to close at 7pm on party nights, so you won't have as many evening MK options. They also typically do free dining starting in September, so the crowds may not be as low as you think.

I'd read over the easywdw link posted by PP. Josh breaks down visiting the World by month, and it is very informative.

But if you specifically want to go to MNSSHP, then September it is!

We're definitely not doing the MNSSHP and I would hate to leave MK early so May is sounding pretty good. I also don't want to go when it's extremely hot. Thank you:)

Welcome to the dis, denise. And get ready to make many of those first time, lifetime memories.

In addition to the link siskaren gave above, check Dave's site here, left margin links.

You're welcome! Early May will be warm, but nothing compared to September! We had lovely mornings and the days were low humidity. Have a magical trip!

We have been in both May and September. I agree with previous posters that September has been very hot!!

We went last year during the first week of June and actually found that to be a great time to go. The crowds weren't too bad yet and the weather was perfect, not too hot but comfortable enough for swimming. I think May would be just about right weather-wise for you to enjoy as much as you want. Just remember that May starts off Star Wars Weekends so that time picks up and is very busy.

Have a great trip!! pixiedust:

May it is then. September is usually really hot and the humidity is just nuts. Early/mid-May is a great time to go. It can get kind of hot but not nearly as oppressive as September.
