I have a 1994 Honda Accord with over 150,000 miles. I have taken very good care of it and it has never given me any trouble. My ex-husband doesn't think it is a good enough car to pass onto my 16- year old daughter-what do you think? It will be her first car and she still has two years left of high school (which is about one mile away).

You might still have close another 100,000 miles left on it!

Is the ex offering to foot the bill on a "new" or "new to you" car for your daughter?? If not, and you have no funds available to purchase her anything else, or just don't think she "needs" a newer or more expensive car than I say the Honda is a fine starter car. Especially if you have not had problems with it and have been keeping up on the necessary maintenance schedule for the car. I have never personally owned a Honda but have friends who have them and say they would never buy from any other manufacturer after having a Honda.

I would suggest getting a AAA membership or some other roadside coverage for your daughter, as I think this is something most drivers should consider. I think also having a cell phone for emergency situations can become necessary when teens start to drive. Your daughter may already have a cell, but if not, and you have any issues with the costs/usage while in the car, you can make strict rules about the phone's usage, with penalties including loss of the car for periods of time.

MY Dh has a 1996 Honda with 150,000 plus on it and it's still ticking like a good Honda. I'd say give DD the car if you so desire.

If it were my daughter, I'd let her drive it. The AAA membership is a great idea - plus a cell phone.
We have a 1990 Accord with well over 200,000 miles. DH drives it to work most days - it is only 5 miles each way. The A/C stopped working years ago & we never put the money into fixing it. We also have a 1992 Civic. It looks better than the Accord but DH isn't as comfortable in it. (DH is not a large man 5'11" about 180#) Our boys (ages 8 & 9) have a 99 Odyssey. ;) I get to drive it the most since I am their chauffer. It has 110,000 miles on it and I still consider it new.

I'm 19 and was looking for a 1994 Honda Accord. Which my dad thought it wasn't good enough  He was trying to teach me how to drive standard so I could drive our old 1985 "sporty"hahaha corolla! He means well :D

My 19 yr. old DD drives a 1994 Honda Civic and my DS drives a 1995 Honda Civic. They are both great Cars! You could have a lot of miles on that car yet! Obviously, he doesn't know Hondas!!

hahaha, I researched cars a tone in the last year and the Hondas really do seem to be the best. Their safety record if quiet good and from what I've heard, they seem to last forever, they're VERY well made cars. I'm sure there's always a few exceptions to that rule though ;)

Been driving my 94 Honda Accord since I was 16. It now has 130,000 miles on it and it's still going strong. I hope it's got a few more good years in it. It's a great car for a 16 year old IMHO. I take real good care of mine so people still think it's a nice car and it's newer than 94

WOW Glad to hear this, seems my DD7 will be one day driving my Honda. First Honda for me, have a 2003 Accord. I also have a 1996 Beretta which I bought new and has only 50,000 miles, guess i'll give that one to my 11 year old when she drives. LOL

yes! I got my mothers 1989 Honda Accord when I started driving in 1996 and it was about 140k in miles. It held up well and then for graduation she offered to buy me any car I wanted - and I picked a new Honda! They are so reliable and it seems most people who are honda lovers are lovers for life. Still have the Civic and will probably have it another good 8 years before I trade it in for another Honda :)
