19 year old teen urinating off of his verandah..

I've been known to do just that! :rolleyes1

Me too! I posted this on my live trip report as we sailed into Cozumel last October :lmao: :rolleyes1

I say if you are going to sit out on your verandah and watch a huge ship sail in next to you in your tighty whities, then you deserve to have 10,000 of my closest internet friends laugh at you :rotfl2:

That would have upset me too. My DH would have raised :rolleyes1 !
Guilty! Kick his bum off the ship! Let him explain himself later. I like Timon's way, take pictures next time sweetie! Post them here for us all to laugh at.

I don't remember who posted above about what she would do if that happened to her. She said she would comment about how "small" it was everytime she saw him. I remembered that. This week end I was in Vegas for Mother's Day. I was at the Wynn playing roulette with drunk Marines. Having a good time until they got too drunk. At one time one hit me on the arm said "look" and he had his ***** out! :scared1: :scared1: I was so upset, I looked for the pit boss and looked at the Dealer who was busy and remembered this poster and just said "It's so tiny! What happened to it?" They all started laughing, hi-fiving=== Good time to cash out but really, at the Wynn casino? I absolutely complained and they were kicked out - gotta love those security cameras. It was ugly. They were back from Iraq and yelling at everyone about what they went through for our country. It was really upsetting.
:sad1:

I think you should have taken an extension cord, stripped the insulation off one end, plugged it in, and stuck it in that idiot's "stream". Sorta like whizzing on an electric fence. ;) :lmao:

Just read this thread. I think the problem is that our Disney "Bubbles" are being burst and the more this happens, the lower Disney's appeal to families is going to erode. Is it Disney's fault--partially. But it is also the fault of the people on the ship. I am shocked at times at the rudeness of the adults let alone the children.

I posted another thread after my cruise in April where my daughter was "felt up" by a teenage even after she told him to stop. She was in the stack with 3 counselors present. To me, that pretty much sums up the mindset that there isn't any authority on the ship. It almost ruined her vacation--we found her sitting in her bed scared to death. Did the boy get punished--nope. Did we get an apology--nope. Was he still in the clubs while my daughter was scared to go back--yep. She was able to get her courage up to go back upstairs with the help of a few counselors and after a few days.

I don't believe anything was done. Why am I writing to DCL, because the more people write and tell Disney that we are all fed up with this kind of behavior, the more likely they are to try and change it. I don't want any compensation. That isn't how I operate. I would rather something be changed and it not happen again.

Let me put it this way. I don't go on Carnival because I don't like the reputation of it being a party ship with people drunk and being rude. I go on Disney because I want a "family" atmosphere where I hope my children are safer. After this last cruise, that rationale has been totally blown apart.

The one thing a company has control over is it's reputation. If these things happen and Disney does nothing to either curtail it or prevent it in eyes of it's customers, then those customers will have the final say and find somewhere else to vacation. It is just too easy for incidents to be made public via forums like this. The days of sweeping them under the rug are gone.

Skuba2... I remember reading your post, and it was pretty bad. I agree, Disney needs to take steps to cut back on these instances before their reputation goes the way of Carnival's. I have noticed lately that Carnival is really trying to clean up their image by showing tons of families and family activities in their commercials. Until they work to change the attitudes and atmosphere on the boats, though... I doubt they will have any luck. Its a shame Disney has forgotten one of the main reasons that people are willing to pay so much more to be on their ships... the kids!

I agree that standards and proper conduct are just declining in this country.....we were at the Wynn last June and for such a beautiful place I was surprised at how many people looked like riff raff. there was actually one girl on line behind me at check-in that was so loud and obnoxious I had to turn around and see what was going on.....she was just using foul language and her t-shirt has some reference to f****** blatantly spelled out on it..I was shocked and even said something to the check-in employee. I asked why someone could wear a shirt with a sexually explicit saying on it and use language and offend people around her with nothing being said to her. Doesn't any establishment have STANDARDS of conduct. Was this girl displaying her right to "free expression". The check-in girl said she understood but could not really do anything.

I can certainly understand people letting off steam and unwinding in a casino, but no one has a right to do what he did to you. Goold come back though!!!

I remember the post about the teenage girl too...that really upset me, as I have a daughter and couldn't imagine that happening and nothing being done about it. I'm also discouraged to hear about this current teenager's behavior - language and actions. I wouldn't have expected such an incident to occur on Disney - another "party" cruise line, yes, but not Disney. We are booked on our first DCL cruise next May. I was hesitant to book a cruise at all - DH and I have been on a few and it's just not our thing and honestly I never thought we'd ever cruise again. We enjoy so much more flying or driving somewhere and staying. But our DD has talked about a Disney cruise for at least a year now so we thought we'd give it a shot. We enjoy WDW so much more than we thought we ever would - Disney just does things 'right' in many ways - so we thought if anyone can change our minds about cruising it will be Disney. However, reading posts like this makes me take pause. I mean, a huge part of going on the cruise is to give DD the experience of meeting other kids (she'll be 7) and enjoying the kids club activities. We are pretty overprotective parents and don't like leaving our child with just anyone (she's never had a babysitter other than grandparents)...if DH and I feel like she cannot enjoy those activities without our fretting over what might be happening, then that is not a vacation for us! Has anyone had problems with the kids clubs at the younger ages - bullies, poor attitudes or supervision from counselors, etc? I also want to confirm with the folks on this board that at age 7 they will not allow DD to check herself in and out or come and go as she pleases, will they? I just could not deal with that - let's face it, there are a lot of weirdos out there. I read something about a year ago about a pedophile in Orlando who almost nabbed a little girl at either the Swan or Dolphin. I just couldn't believe it. But Disney attractions are where there are lots of kids so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised...it just really is disheartening to think there are fewer places we can take our children and feel like they are safe.:sad2:

Itutorfortravel. I have had kids in all of the age groups except the 3/4's and I have neither seen nor heard of any other incident other than the one with my daughter in the stack--but I am sure things do happen. The freedom doesn't hit until they are in the older groups. The parents of the 9/10 age group are given the option to allow check-in/out privileges.

Just be aware and check in often wherever they are at. I would not have any qualms with bringing my younger kids on another Disney Cruise. I would just have to re-think the idea of bringing my older ones. It wasn't her favorite cruise and I think she was disappointed.

God bless you for absolutely hitting the nail on the head. Disney and it's "hear no wrong" apologists don't like it, but the wake call represented by this thread is long, long overdue. I'll be the first to give the firm the credit it deserves when the so-called "magic" is there, but will also always defend those who drag it into the spotlight when the ball gets dropped, especially when people (as in this situation) suffer as a result.

. Either way, if it was my kid, hed have been in your room in 30 seconds discussing and apologizing for the whole situation. I understand Disney can only do so much, but the fact that the parents were made aware of the situation and DIDN't approach you at all about it? Says a lot IMO. :confused3
>>

I agree with this. I don't know that I'd have expected much of Disney in these circumstances. I can't believe the parents didn't make the kid apologize! I hope they at least consequenced him more than just making him stay in their room.

a huge part of going on the cruise is to give DD the experience of meeting other kids (she'll be 7) and enjoying the kids club activities.

My kids will be 10 and 5 when we cruise. I am not too worried about the kids clubs, as I feel they are supervised. My kids have dealt with bullies in the past, and are good to let me know when anything happens. I think they will do fine in the kids clubs. My DS10 wil NOT be checking himself in/out. If he wants to leave, they can page me to come get him. I do not want him wandering around the ship by himself. Let's face it... there are long hallways with staterooms... the perfect place for a preditor to hang out and wait for an opportunity. I don't mind giving him some freedom within limits, but wandering the ship isn't one of them!

I think the Stack has problems because it is an area advertised as "off limits" to adults, which can set the wrong tone for kids prone to mischief. Add to that the wide range of ages and the few number of CMs on duty... and I can see where problems would arise.

Let me just say, if one of my young nieces or nephews had been involved. It would have been a whole other story.

We will have a balcony next Jan when we sail. My nieces will be 17 and 13 and my nephew will be 8. If we are on our balcony and this was to happen, like I said a WHOLE other story. I would have most likely been the one put off the ship, for tossing someone off the ship.

Also for those of you that talk about the veranada club or whatever you are calling it. There are other cruise ships out there that would be better for your actions on. Remember you are on a ship full of kids. If you want to go at it, do it in your cabin.

The teen was awake and harassing my husband on the verandah when the security officer arrived. He did not deny the act.

It's over... I'm over it. I can laugh at it now because I never have to see this young man again.

As far as Disney... they did what they felt was right. No worries here because I have had more than enough Disney... time to move on.

RhondaInMA ~ I'm sorry to hear that this teenager ruined your cruise and that this post has gotten way out of hand. I think there are more peeved off people on this post than you!

I live by one motto: People are stupid! :rolleyes1

People do stupid things all the time no matter where you are. I have witnessed a mother letting her young daughter pee in the middle of a restroom floor because the mom was mad she had to wait in line. (Yes, this was at Disney) I have also witnessed a mom letting her daughter pee into a cup in the middle of a walkway at the National Zoo in Washington DC. People just don't think anymore. What a world we live in, huh?

I hope you will reconsider taking another cruise with DCL as this is a rare instance that doesn't happen all the time.

Exactly. However ... "Off with their heads!!!!!" .... right beachblanket et al.? thats what we want right? Or at least that is what we expect DCL to do ... I guess because we are better than normal society, we are sailiing DCL, we expect action, immediate and harsh! We are in a suite, the Walt Suite, we will not tolerate anything less than death by hanging right now in the middle of the town square. Judge, jury, investigation ... even questioning ... huh, not if I make the accusation! Make is so, NOW!

I do agree about people doing stupid things no matter where you are. I do need a break from Disney... but will probably cruise again in the future. I have a 2 year old granddaughter who has never cruised before... and I feel we will want her to experience a Disney cruise. Yes, we will book a room with a verandah because I don't like to feel closed in. And.. I have no fear at all that anything like this incident will happen again. As I said... first complaint in 7 Disney cruises. I think that's pretty good!

Great spinball! :thumbsup2 The issue here isn't as much what action should have been taken "against" the teen as much (as I have repeatedly pointed out) DCL's absolutely crappy response to the OP's post-cruise complaint. If some people here live in a realm where they accept that sort of blow off, "too bad" form letter response, I can only imagine how much they are regularly taken advantage of by other bureaucracies.

After she sent her complaint, the OP should have gotten a personal phone call from either the Captain or a Senior Officer of the ship. The discussion should have included an apology for the fact the incident happened and acknowledgment that it seriously impacted the cruise experience. Then the admission that nothing DCL can do will truly "make good' on the situation, but in consideration of the seriousness of what happened the line is permanently banning a certain young man from ever sailing with them again (and by the way, every major cruise line has and enforces just such "black lists.")

And before anyone rolls their eyes at all that, I got just that type of call from a very senior Disney executive severall years ago, after I complained in a letter to them about the experience I was having with one of their marketing partners. And the fact it was a personal call acknowledging the importance to them of the matter made all the difference.

I was hoping I didn't come across that way. Sorry if I did. I will admit that maybe we expected this vacation to be 'perfect' because of what we paid. Between air, the suite and a stay before and after at WDW Polynesian it cost us over $25000. I have learned that there is no such thing as perfect... and I have also learned that one incident certainly doesn't have to ruin your whole cruise. As far as how much we paid... we made that decision with no guarantee that it would be without any incidents. I guess it was just unexpected.

Would I pay that again to sail in a Disney suite? In a heartbeat. Nothing like sailing Disney with not only lots of extra space but also with concierge there to take care of you.

You certainly didn't. You have handled the situation remarkably well.:thumbsup2
In my opinion, the response was rooted from the many other (completely asinine comments) as to what some people think should have been done to this boy. I COMPLETELY understand your disgust for the situation, as I said previously, I would be none to happy if I had witnessed such a thing but what many seem to be forgetting (intentionally overlooking?) is that it is one persons accusation of another person. Does that make the accuser automatically right and the accused automatically guilty? Heaven forbid the day comes when that happens. What if I happen to be in the stateroom that you (the cumulative 'you' not you, yourself) mistakenly thought was the one in which some offensive incident took place? What if someone gets mad at their S.O. and decides to call security claiming something happened that really didn't? Do they immediately get hauled off to the 'brig' or thrown off the ship simply because of an accusation!? Again, I am not saying you falsely accused anyone, you did the right thing by calling security and I feel that in the circumstance, they did as much as they could do without there being any further incident or witnesses.
I just wish people would think a little more beyond themselves when throwing out such outrageous sentences on the accused.
