Part of me really wants to make sure they are ok...

Do you guys out there think it would be ok to call for a out of the blue reason and pretend I don't know anything, just so I know she and the kids are safe and don't need me?

First I commend you for your concern and empathy. But look at your post-you want to know that she is safe. BUT what if you do call and they are NOT okay- and she says "I need $1000" or "I need you to do X" or "I need a place to stay-can you put me up?" I understand you are concerned but how far are you willing to go out of this concern? I just think you need to have a plan before you contact her.

I hope things work out for you and her..sounds like a terrible situation.

You were also assuming that she would still have the same cell phone number. If I were going to take my kids and run, I would cut all ties to prevent being found. Just a thought. Sometimes its just so hard to know what the "right thing" to do is. Unfortunately, until she's willing to help herself (and by coming back she's obviously not), there really isn't much you can do to help, other than prayer for her and her children.
