$162 for Pop Century Standard Room!!

I did not know that our DVC contracts freeze the price of rooms...could someone clarify....Thanks

They don't actually "freeze" the price. The points required for any given night can change, but only a set number ofpoints are sold for any resort. So if the points increase for some nights, they must also decrease for others, as the number of points overall on the chart remains frozen.

Sorry for the confusion. My intent was that we purchased DVC accommodations at 2004 prices when we bought DVC and with the limits on dues, I've lost touch with how much costs have risen for rack rate onsite accommodations.

You think it's bad now, wait for 20 years when our DVC rooms are still $200 a night (based on our contracts) and Pop version 3 is going for $500.

That factored into our decision to buy big time! We're not even 10 years into our ownership and I'm really seeing the benefit of our great accommodations at lower prices. If you regularly vacation at WDW, DVC is a great value.

Take the one time price of your contract, which is finite. Take your membership fees, then multiply by number of years (adding a small % for increases). take that whole amount, then divide by number of years.

In December, we got a night at All Star Movies - Preferred view for $75 after tax.

We had made reservations for the Fairfield in Ocala, but made better time than we had planned. We called from Lake City, got the rate, and ended up spending the evening at Epcot watching Illuminations.

I was shocked when Disney started asking $170/nt for Port Orleans. I'm just in a state of disbelief that they're asking that for an average room at a value now. So glad I found out about DVC through these boards back in 2005.

The ridiculous prices for the on-site Disney hotels is exactly what has driven me to consider first staying over at Universal for a night or two before moving over to our DVC unit. If I'm going to dish out that much cash - I want a new, exciting experience for it.

You won't regret that if you decide to do it. The Universal resorts are great and the service is much better than the service at the values or even DVC. They are run by Loews, which knows what they are doing. The Universal parks are a lot of fun as well, especially now with WWOHP.

Ok, maybe I'm a little old fashioned, but I believe loyalty should be rewarded!!! Do we, as DVC members, not get a discount on Disney rooms if we want to pay cash? I've run out of points and want to go In September for two nights to see the Night of Joy . Is it worth calling member services, or will they just quote me the same rates as the Disney site?
If anyone has an answer , I'd appreciate it!!!

I don't think member services can book cash rooms at non-DVC resorts.

Regarding the high rack rates, I think Disney bumps them up to make it seem like you are getting a "bargain" when they offer 30%-40% off. The discounted price is really what it's worth.

At this point there are no discounts for room only in July.
