$162 for Pop Century Standard Room!!

You may want to keep eyes open for deals at Swan/dolphin too. I was just able to book 2 nights to add on in March for 199.00 night ( I checked POP too and was shocked at prices).. BUT, I remember last summer- we were able to book a room at the Swan for 99.00 a night.

The Swan/Dolphin also have good rates for teachers, nurses and government workers, so if you or any member of your party has one of those occupations, definitely check them out. You can go to the Dreams Unlimited website and check the rates for the time of your trip. Good Luck

I seem to remember reading that the Swan/Dolphin have a teacher discount. I'll have to check into that! I can see $199 for a quality hotel. I'm just a bit taken back by the high cost for a value resort. In my mind, values start at $79 and moderates at $109. I guess I'm dating myself!

Oops...I guess I was too slow to post.

Thanks for the tip. I checked Dreams Unlimited website and I can get a room for $178.88 tax inclusive! Way better deal than Pop. Now I'll have to figure out how to get a transfer or rent a car!

Keep in mind they have a $11.25/day plus tax resort fee and they may also have a parking fee. I think it is still well worth it, but I didn't want you to be surprised.

Wow that is making the reservation I have at US/IOA look really affordable. I have a few nights there because I wanted the early entry into HP and the FOTL but I did cringe when I saw $279 per night. At least I know there I am getting deluxe accomadations, but seriously $169 for the tiny room, thread bare towels, scrambling to find decent parking and no pool towels. I guess I see where "free dining" isn't so free. When I think $169 per night I think AKL!

And to think a Value room at AKV can be 9 points! Or OKW!

This is why I dont understand why people think the bottom will fall out of DVC because of recent changes. The prices through CRO are rising and they are locking in rack rates in all of their promotions. You book a package and pay rack for the room and they discount the food and tix. Then they just raise the price of the food and tix for Non Package guests to make up for it.

People are paying these prices everyday with no residual value at all. Just 1 and done vacations.
Those that decide to give their contracts away after March 20, dont understand the market and will leave a bunch of money on the table.

You're not dating yourself - that's what I still think of them as, too. At least, that's about what I'm willing to pay to stay in them!

Heck I still remembered when I got a room at an All Star resort for $69/night INCLUDING tax and everything... sheesh...

I would never spend that much at a "value" resort. They are definitely not worth it. There are so many nicer hotels in the area that you can get for much less, including suites with breakfast included.

I am paying rack for 2 nights @ Pop at the moment, the week before Easter. It's 150-ish a night. On a whim, I decided to check out the price of a studio at SSR (where the rest of our trip is) and thought about calling MS about any discounts - highly unlikely at Easter, but I thought I might try.

Then I saw the SSR studio that week is ... $400 / night! :scared1::scared1: For a studio. Guess we'll be moving to Pop in the middle of our trip unless our waitlist comes through.

FWIW, we've always hotwired or pricelined our arrival-night accommodations - 4stars or higher, always in the 70-90$ range. We've gotten Gaylord Palms, the Peabody (2x), the Grand Cypress (2x and my favorite), and a 1bedroom at Caribe Royale. All spectacular deluxe accommodations. :thumbsup2

I've gotten some great deals on Priceline. I think I'll give that a try. How far in advance have you used Priceline? We travel the last week of July. I think it may be too early to get a good deal.

I'd go ahead and try for your ideal price point. I've gotten Christmas week months in advance.

Ok, maybe I'm a little old fashioned, but I believe loyalty should be rewarded!!! Do we, as DVC members, not get a discount on Disney rooms if we want to pay cash? I've run out of points and want to go In September for two nights to see the Night of Joy . Is it worth calling member services, or will they just quote me the same rates as the Disney site?
If anyone has an answer , I'd appreciate it!!!

You do get 25% off the rack rate of DVC accommodations -- not regular hotel accommodations. It's seems to me that Disney could benefit from a discount for people who want to add a few days at a traditional Disney hotel, but Disney does not offer such a discount.

Doug, thank you. I'll call and see what they have. Just can't see spending big bucks for only two days when we are going to be there for 5 in July already.

When I went in 2003 we had booked POFQ at discounted rate of $79 per night. Five weeks before we were to go they closed it for refurb and our TA got us upgraded to Yacht Club for $109 per night!

:)We paid $92 a night at Pop 11/30 last year--before our DVC trip.

Could you see what is available and book one night using the 24 points Disney will sell you since you are 7 months out??? :confused3 It might be a little more but you would get at least a studio ??

We always take an extra day when we drive down and stay in Gainesville at a chain hotel on DH's points. We get up the next morning, have a nice breakfast and head off to WDW getting there about 10 or so. We check in and go to the room if it's ready. If it's not, we head to a park until they text and let us know that the room is ready. This way we are all ready to enjoy our first full day at the resort and not tired out from the drive. We have never tried the value resorts because we have just heard that they aren't worth the money.

Have a great trip!

You think it's bad now, wait for 20 years when our DVC rooms are still $200 a night (based on our contracts) and Pop version 3 is going for $500.
