...no grocery run yet! UGH!
Tara

Tara,
I just got back from my grocery run. I now have salad, carrots and bananas. I am hoping for a better today (although yesterday wasn't too bad, and I dip back down a little on the scales, but not as much as I would like).

Debra

You've inspired me!!! Here's what I want to get at the grocery today...

Angel hair cabbage
Lettuce
Spinach
Vidalia Onions
Celery
Carrots
Radicchio
Raspberries
Blackberries
Strawberries
Apples
Purple Onion
Olives
Red Bell Pepper

Okay...now that I've written them down I won't forget them as I pass them in the aisle.....let's see if this plan comes to fruition! :)

Tara

Today's lunch: roast beef & swiss sandwich, a few carrots, tomatoes, black olives and a little bit of ranch dressing to dip them in. I also treated myself to a can of Cherry Coke since I have had 48oz of water so far today.

Dinner: will probably be something quick at Wendy's before church tonight. I may just have a potato or salad or something like that.

Their fruit salad looks good. I really like the apple salad at McDonalds (but I leave off the walnuts because of calories).

Eating out is a tough one. Seems like everything is so high in calories. I am glad to see some fruit salads available (you can get really tired of veggie salads after awhile).

I am sitting here munching on a bowl a carrots. Yum  .

Okay, went on a binge--do binges last 2 months???--& gained back 20#!!! :guilty:
since last week have taken off 3#.
I am an addict! It was all stress eating & I can stress over the most banal things!
well, back on a low-cal Atkins. At this rate it will be the end of 2006 before I hit 150! More reasonably, probably spring 2007! :rolleyes2
For the 1st few days of coming to grips with this I was bereft & suicidal.
the worst bit is that I will not be going to Britain w/ DH & DS16--can't write anymore on that or I will be too upset
I am going to buy a treadmill & am looking for some other sort of exercise equipment--thought of Pilates for flexibility. Any ideas? I have some free weights & need recommendations for a DVD for instruction-
I can't believe how hungry I can get. As usual am drinking at least 84 oz of water, but need a low carb low snack-Wow! I miss the fishes 'coz they're so delicious! :earboy2:
I have found out that I cannot eat the low carb candy--it definately, even at one bar per day, slows my weight loss
There should be re-hab for fatties! I apologize if this is depressing. am really feeling better than I was last week-

Jean,
Losing weight is not easy. If it were, there wouldn't be any over weight people in our country. It can be done, but the KEY it patience. It will not happen overnight, or even in a couple of weeks. It is a long term comittment, BUT YOU CAN DO IT!

I know it sounds depressing to think of 'dieting' for the next several months, but try to think of it as 'eating healthy'. I hate the work dieting (and I don't use it here, I just say I am trying to eat healthy).

I started my journey on Jan. 1st of this year, and here we are in September, and I am still working on it (have about 10 more pounds to go). During this time I have splurged, but then I got right back into eating healthy again.

Being hungry is the WORSE! What I have found is that the hungry feeling adjusts to your new food levels after about 3 weeks (I know, that sounds like a long time, but just consider it a step along your journey).

What I do to help (which is what I did today after a weekend of not eating healthy) is fill up on carrots. Of course I don't CRAVE carrots. I don't particularly love carrots, but they are alright taste wise and they come ready to eat and will fill you up.

My difficult time is in the afternoons. So I try to make a habit of filling a cereal bowl of carrots and eating them around 2:00 pm. This heads off that terrible hungry feeling for me. There may be other veggies that work for you, but the point is to get rid of the hungry feeling. Try to head it off before it hits. Honestly, 90 minutes ago I was about to get into the kids' snacks, but I had my bowl of carrots and now that I don't feel hungry I can resist the other stuff.

Anyway, keep in mind that exercise really helps, BUT the main key to weight lose is taking in less calories than you burn (the extra you burn will be the stored fat that will come off in time). It is that simple.

I am using the same target as Tara: 1200 calories a day. I try to be a little under that if I can (but never under 1000).

Hang in there, you can do it! Just take small steps. Don't expect to change everything at once. To be honest, I didn't go right to the 1200 calories, I started out with 1800 calories a day for week 1, then went to 1600 calories per day for week 2, then 1400 per day for week 3, and then 1200 by week 4. By week 4 that hungry feeling wasn't so strong either.

Glad you are here. You can do it. Try to relax and take a few steps each day. Eventually you will develop healthy habits and the weight will come off.

Debra

Hi

Having an incredible craving for Chinese :upsidedow :faint: ........alone in the house (dinner plans changed at the last minute and the defrosted chicken breasts are sitting in the fridge for tomorrow).

So I compromised.....ordered egg drop soup, steamed chicken with broccoli, and caved on the fried rice.........did tell them all steamed and no MSG

Week before TOM - WARNING WARNING - will eat anything that isn't nailed down........ :rotfl2:

Otherwise had a good food day and took puppy out for a walk.........he wasn't too spunky.....too hot for him

Had to share - might need a major food intervention :Pinkbounc :)

Have a Magical Disney Day!!

Hi Everyone,
I am back from our latest adventure, we spent this past weekend in Mackinac. We had a great time, if only I could be as active at home as I am on vacation. The campground was adjacent to a rails to trails line, so we had plenty area to hike. Monday we walked the Mackinac bridge and the weather was great, and the sunrise was great.

I did manage to lose 0.5 lbs last week.

What was the name of the campground? (is there a website?)

DH would LOVE to camp up there by a bike trail! We want to take the kids to Mackinaw Island. We did camp up there when the girls were 3 years old at a KOA campground, but DH is really into biking and would love to be near a bike trail.

That is cool that you walked the brigde. Maybe we will try that someday. For now, I would just like go for a visit.

Glad you are back!
Debra

Real quick I wanted to post dinner. We did go to Wendy's and I had a potato (w/ probably too much sour cream) and water. I resited the burger!!! I'm off to catch the end on Rock Star INXS!!

Debra,
The campground we stayed at this time was Waterways Camground, in Cheboygan which is about 1/2 hour from Mackinaw. This camground is small, but very nice and clean with decent size sites. The only draw back is there is not much for the kids to do, as the playground is basically a swingset and and old boat. Their web site is www.waterwayscampground.com.

The other campgound we have stayed at in Mackinaw is the Mill Creek campground. This campground was also nice and clean, but is much larger and has a pool and a nice large playground and also a nice community area right on the lake with views of the bridge. The main draw back here is that the sites tend to be small. Their web site is www.campmackinaw.com.

I hope you get to vist someday as this a very beautiful place.

Thanks Regina, I bookmarked the info. I hope we get to go someday too. It seems like with the kids and their activities, vacation bible school, and a visit to grandparents, the summer goes by SO fast and we just don't get to travel the way we want to. Before kids, it seemed like we could go more easily (but then we were restricted by the school schedule). I'm sure we will make it sometime. We made the mistake of buying a popup camper about 4 years ago and we thought we would have so much fun with it! BUT now we find that we just don't have the time (oh, and we have to get in our annual Disney trip!).

I do want to take the girls there though. It is such a neat place, and the island has a special meaning to DH and I. When we were in college he went see the movie "Somewhere In Time" and he was with a buddy and at the end he was all choked up over it and his friend asked him what was wrong and he said that he thought he was in love with me (we hadn't dated yet). His friend said, "Man, you better do something about that." :rotfl2: So he came over to my dorm, didn't say a word about anything unusual (just talked like friends like we always did), then when we got to the door to leave he turned around and kissed me and then left without a word! So we contribute the 'nudge' for us to start dating to this movie. Maybe we will make it to the Grand Hotel for an overnight stay sometime!

Debra

Good Morning!

Well, I'm ready to come clean and face the music. I gained 6, yes 6 pounds on vacation. That's 8 days of vacation plus five on not making any effort...I was pretty depressed and considering just giving up, but I really can't stand to gain back the rest of the weight and have nothing I own fit me, so at this point it's easier to lose it and more and fit well into all my clothes. Plus, every time I lose I plan to get something -- I did really well when I was rewarding myself, so I'm going back to that. My only rule is -- no food rewards! :rotfl:

Last night I had chili and cornbread for dinner, followed by a dark chocolate bar. Yeah, I know. This morning I joined another Mom for breakfast, since our kids are only in school until noon I took today off. I had a cheddar omelet with bacon, some toast, and a few potatoes. Yeah, I know again. So, I obviously need a fresh start. I am declaring this afternoon a new day, and I'm going to have a smidge of peanut butter on diet bread with apple slices for lunch. I told my dh I'm having soup for dinner until the six pounds leave, so I'm all set on that front.

Tomorrow I will have a Kashi bar for breakfast, banana, raisins and apple for lunch, and soup for dinner. That's as far ahead as I've planned. I'm also battling a cold, so I haven't made it back on the treadmill yet. That's a definite goal for me.

It's time to get serious about my Christmas crosstitch project, which will force me to do something else with my fingers! We are also getting back into our family routine. We have "no t.v." nights for my ds on Mondays and Wednesdays. This means that instead of watching t.v. before or after dinner we play games with him. Also keeps me from eating...He's back in gymnastics this year on Monday evenings, so I'll go to Curves while he does that. It's not worth driving home since he's only there an hour, but it is long enough to run next door to the strip mall and do a little strength training. That will start next week for me, so hopefully burning a few more calories will help.

O.k., an entire trip report is too daunting, so I'll just give it to you in installments.

Day 1 -- Departure Day. We had a 2:10 flight, so we had plenty of time to do everything we needed before we left. I was able to change all the bedsheets, do dishes, dust, etc., so I knew I would be coming home to a house that was pleasant to be in. We ate lunch at the airport. My dh decided McDonalds was the best option (It was that or Legal Seafoods, which is quite expensive). I had a kids hamburger happy meal. It seemed like the best option available. The flight was uneventful. This was our first time on Jet Blue, and we loved it. We watched our individual t.v.s, and the three hour flight just flew by. They also had better snacks than I'm used to. My ds had a big chocolate chip cookie, dh and I had smoked almonds.

We arrived in Orlando, and were greeted by people with big white Mickey hands. We checked into the Magical Express, and were led to a line to wait for our bus. This entire process took about 15 minutes, tops. We boarded our bus, and watched a video about all the magical things we could do. There were a few other stops, but we were first at the Beach Club. We checked into the Beach Club, and I tried to make sure we would not have to change rooms when our package started the next day. I was surprised to find out we had a certificate for two free lanyards and pins, and another "magical" option of our choice. We went up to our room, and I was very impressed. It was large with a double sink area, nice tub, and spacious verandah. I was even excited by the Mickey toiletries! This was our first time staying onsite, and so far we were happy. It was getting to be 6 p.m., so we walked over to the ESPN Club at the Boardwalk for dinner. Not too bad of a wait, and I had a grilled chicken sandwich -- with fries. We went back to our room and most of our luggage had arrived. I started to unpack while dh went to check out the store. He was surprised at the variety of food available, but I'm sure that's because people in the Villas have microwaves, so they have more options.

We decided to check out the pool, ds was dying to see it. The pool is usually one of his favorite parts of vacation, and Stormalong Bay was no exception. We were in the very little kid section, about 1.5 feet deep, and it was about 9 p.m. Suddenly we saw fireworks going off in the distance. We actually had a good view of some of them. Yep, it was Illuminations at Epcot. We decided this was a pretty magical end to our day. We went back to our room, and I called for a wakeup call so we would get an early start for our first morning at the Magic Kingdom. The bed was so comfy, I was asleep almost before my head hit the pillow.

Tune in for Day 2 tomorrow...

Debra -- How incredibly romantic! That is a great story. I have a huge smile on my face, and warm fuzzies all over. I hope you definitely get to visit the island!

Regina -- You are always on the move! All the planning, effort and activities of your vacation are adding up to a great loss.

Linda -- Before my recent epiphany...I had Chinese Tuesday night. I had spring rolls and crab rangoon. It had been a very long time, and hopefully it will be a very long time before I have it again. I'm calling it my last hurrah. I have to get back on track! Tonight, we are not eating after 8 p.m., I promise. I'll stop eating all this junk if you will...I need a buddy!

Haley -- Excellent job resisting the burger! You are my hero :Pinkbounc

Jen -- Thanks again for the fabulous cheer! You are doing wonderfully.

Jean -- Listen to Debra. Her carrots have saved me before, and I'm sure they will again! It sounds like you're off to a good start. I find it really does help to list what I'm eating. If I know I'm going to tell people, I make better choices.

A big "Hi" to Tara, Nikki, Lisa, Kathy, and anyone else I missed!

C'ya real soon!
Maria

Just a real quick note. I know I have been MIA, but I have tried to read some of the 150's posts here and there to keep up. Things just have been so busy here, that I think I am only posting to 2-3 journals consistently, one of them being mine. All others, I try to keep my eye on and I must say that everyone is doing great!

As for me?

I hit the half-way point in my journey yesterday! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

It feels so good to know that I will soon have more lbs lost than I have left to lose to reach my goal.

It has taken a little longer than I had originally hoped, but 190 is on the scale and the next step will be into a new set of 10's! Only 30.5 lbs left til I hit the 150's.

Everyone keep up the great work. It can be done! I'll pop back in when more time allows. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

CONGRATS LESLI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :thewave: :thewave: :Pinkbounc

TOM came during 7am practice...and I didn't know it until I came home because I left my passbook here!...AARGH! Not to mention my squad leader was being a total BUTT today! She-makes-me-so-MAD! Again, TOM played a major part in this. I've not been very hungry and am debating about going to my brother's game today! I hate his sneak attacks...I'm usually very active so that could explain a lot.

B: 2 cups cereal (6), toast (1.5)
L: turkey (2 for 3 slices), juicie (1.5), pineapple tidbits (1)
S: ??
D: ??

Should I put off my walk? Or should I not? It's raining buckets here and I might go to the game but I have a test to study for, for Gov't class...will be back.

Many huggles as I am short on time and long on work!
