Regina! I say "let the little things go" for the rest of the summer....being gone every weekend makes it impossible to keep on top of it all...so enjoy your weekends and if the laundry gets behind or cobwebs hit your corners...just smile and tackle the small stuff when you can. I really loved this recipe we tried last week...tilapia (white fish) on radicchio and canneloni beans....you can find it and some other great recipes at...http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_30617,00.html
Sorry that's such a long link...it's "Everyday Italian" on Foodtv.com...I haven't tried a recipe there that I haven't loved...and they seem complicated but they're easy to cook!

Lisa!!! Let us know what the nutritionist says!!! I think we'll ALL need to hear it...especially me...I'm soo proud of me for doing the walking but I haven't been as good as I could on the eating (cookie dough tonight, few swigs of real Pepsi, homemade bread, and pasta...way overdid it on the carbs!)...I can't wait to hear some tips to keep me straight! :)

TC!! WHat a great report for you ma!!! I know that makes the day seem much brighter! I love your wonderful attitude...it makes me smile all the way through! :)

Linda...bring back some Spanish cooking ideas...I can't think of anything Spanish besides Spanish rice...what do they eat over there??? Have a great trip!

I'm really going to work hard on no carbs tomorrow...just blew it today...I'm not doing strictly low carb but I do try to limit it to under 50 carbs a day and only wheat stuff...well I probably had over 200 today and it wasn't wheat!

Going to walk and walk my fastest yet tomorrow am...hopefully that'll burn some of those sugar grams I had! UGH!
Tara

Good Morning everybody...today I will try to do the toughest challenge ever attempted...

STAYING ON POINTS!!!! I have a picnic to prepare for, games to win, and a mouth who needs a new job (talk more, eat less!) :rotfl:

Done a pretty good job this AM...just wasn't really hungry for some goofball reason.

I actually made myself throw away a container of frosting because it was saying eateateateateateateateatEAT! and I was tired of listening to it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tara-It's the greatest!!! We're all so excited. We had a bit of a scare the last time she went in...thought they saw some calcifications, but it was just scar tissue and something else. :confused3 Thanks!!! And pass some of that homemade bread over here. I LOVE homemade bread...better yet, keep it to yourself. Please!!
Linda-having a wonderful time yet? What do the portion sizes look like? What is an average meal looking like (like a piece of grilled chicken, 1/4 cup grilled veggies etc.)
Lisa-I have read that book many times over. I know how it feels to have an Alexander day! Hugs to you :grouphug: and also you are not BLABBING-don't be sorry! You are doing what is best for you right now: getting it all out! My definition of blabbing (because I do it all the time): complaining about something or talking to hear yourself talk. You are chattering, merely chattering! And give a yell if you want a helping hand, alrighty?
Have a Terrific Thursday!
Good Morning! At last night's weigh in I was down .8, to 174.2. I officially am supposed to eat fewer points to keep losing weight. I'm finding it a little hard to be excited about eating less, and I'm very nervous -- this is the point where I usually fail and give up, then creep back into the 180s. :rolleyes1
But, I'm trying to do what I can so that doesn't happen this time. After the WW meeting last night, I asked the leader for specific advice on how to keep the weight loss coming, and convince myself that I was still satisfied while eating fewer points. She suggested I get some protein with my first meal of the day, and also cut down on carbs. So, no Kashi Trail Mix bar for me this morning (it leaves me so full, I hate to give it up!). I had a diet English Muffin with peanut butter. I do feel satisfied and full so far. I also have this odd feeling like I can really do it this time. I'm eager and open for any suggestions for how to eat more protein in the morning. Those of you doing low carb, do you have any ideas? I eat breakfast at work, so I have to have something portable during the week.
My goal is to lose enough before our trip in 3 weeks that even with weight gain, I'm still below 175. I want to lose 6 more pounds before we go. Of course I will have TOM, so that may be unrealistic. I'm just going to keep on drinking my water, not eating after 8, and working out. If I just keep doing what I'm supposed to I have to lose eventually, right? :goodvibes
So, my plans for the end of this week are going to have to be fluid. I was supposed to have lunch out today and tomorrow, but I don't think that's going to happen. On the bright side, this means I can really control and decide exactly how many points I'm going to have. We are having dinner at Applebee's tomorrow night, so I can eat off the WW menu! This will also help. With any luck, Saturday will be the only day where I have *danger*. I'm hoping I can limit it to the wedding reception.
I punted on last night's workout. It was so uncomfortable in our basement, I just couldn't do it. If I don't work out when I get home, I promised myself I would do it while I watch Big Brother. I'm getting at least an hour out of today!
I really can see my clothes starting to fit better, and that is very motivating. My lower half is finally getting more 14 than 16, but it seems so slow. Patience is not one of my strongest virtues. Of course, the one area that is determined to get smaller is my bust, and it wasn't generous to start with :sad2:
Jen -- So glad to hear about your Mom! Excellent news. When do you start school?
Kathy -- Good luck with your surgery. I know you are looking forward to sleeping in your own bed on a regular basis.
Tara -- It took me forever, but I finally found a dentist I love that sees our entire family. It's great because we just schedule one big family appointment, and one of us is with ds while the other is getting a cleaning. My ds loves her, she even teaches at Tufts dental school.
Regina -- I also get stuck in the rut of eating the same foods over and over. It's comforting. Try eating something different for breakfast 2 or 3 times a week. That's a good way to wake up your metabolism, and let your body know that you're not doing the same thing all the time, so it needs to pay attention to the nutrients passing through. Note: I haven't actually done this yet, but I'm going to start following this advice. It is hard to get started again, but just know that we're with you for every baby step!
Lisa -- I can't wait to hear how the visit with the nutritionist went! Please pass on any good advice! I hope today is much better for you. We all have rotten days. On really bad ones, I like to paraphrase Scarlett O'Hara, "Tomorrow is another day." O.k., sometimes I want to say "Fiddle-dee-dee", but I just can't do that with a straight face :rotfl2:
Meg -- Keep posting, I can't wait to learn more about you! :)
Everyone have a fantastic day!
Maria
Nice job, Maria!!! You can do this! I have faith in you.
School starts August 23...and thanks! MY mom appreciates the good wishes and sends hugs to you all.
Maria!!! You are only 15 pounds away from seeing 159 on that scale!!!! Isn't that great??? You will never see the 180's again...and 5 pounds can be gone solidly put you in the 160's before your trip...I know you can do it! And I marvel at the ever shrinking bust...why can't my thighs and hips take on such losing?
I did it gang...I did 6 days straight of 4.3 miles..today we did it in 1 hour and 7 minutes flat...somehow we shaved 2 minutes off yesterdays time and my thighs and calves are feeling it! I'm soo thankful for my day of rest tomorrow! Hoping Saturday is a good weigh in...only 8 weeks left until the wedding I'm in...I may not have moved the scale much because I probably kept to about 2,000 calories a day instead of 1500 but I really wanted to get my walking consistent. So next week I'm keeping the walking regimine and working on staying under 1500 calories..
Thanks guys!!
Tara
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the encouragement, I am still hanging in there. I have looked at several receipes and I am debating between a new receipe for breakfast or something new for lunch. I will have to see how the weekend goes and see which one I have time to prepare. For the next 2 days I will be working at my gargage sale, time to get rid off all the baby stuff, as my little ones are no longer babies.
Maria - I hope you find something to eat for breakfast, I know that when I eat a good breakfast with protein, I tend to snack less and eat less at meals. On the WW site, I found a receipe for a breakfast pizza made with eggs, canadian bacan and vegetables. I will let you know how it tastes when I make it.
Lisa - I hope today was a better day for you and the nutritionist is able to provide you with some helpful information.
Tara - Great job with the exercise, 6 days of 4.3 miles is great. :banana: :banana:
Regina
Happy, Happy Friday! :cool1:
Well, I have mixed results again. I'm still doing great on the water and I seem to be adjusting to fewer points so far, but exercise...not so much happening this week.
I think I need to really focus on that next week. Even though I tried to get it down a few weeks ago, it's not happening. So, my goals for next week:
1. Stop eating by 8:00 p.m.
2. Drink 1 gallon of water daily.
3. Work out every other day.
Not eating after 8 has become a comfortable habit. I haven't had a problem getting the water in all week. So, I should be free to fully focus on working out, at least every other day, and two days in a row if I have some motivation!
This is my last post for the weekend. We travel to NH this afternoon. I have the wedding tomorrow, and then we'll be home Sunday. I'll have to catch up on everything to get ready for Monday (although I am seriously contemplating a sick day, I have plenty and I could really use a day to get my life in order before I tackle next week). Anyway, I'll check in and weigh at home Monday morning, so I know how I did. Wish me luck!
Regina -- that breakfast pizza sounds delicious. Let me know how it is and maybe I'll give it a try! Good luck with your garage sale. I know that will keep you busy!
Tara -- Congratulations on your walking! :Pinkbounc You are doing fabulous. I also seem to do better when I try to improve one thing at a time. I think exercise is the hardest thing to make a habit, and you have it down! Awesome!
Jen -- you start school the day before our vacation! Schools here don't start until after Labor Day, but my ds was in school until June 23rd, so there is a tradeoff. Are you excited about any of your new classes?
Lisa -- What about you? Are you excited about your new class? You have such an important job. I bet your classroom will by shiny and welcoming for all your new students.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend, and I'll check in soon! :cat:
Hi Maria!!!! :wave:
Wish I could be going with you...I am kind of excited about my new classes. My brother has finally made it to the big school-seventh grade!! To think there was a time when we didn't think he could escape the elementary years and that witch (she seriously looked like one-tall, longish nose with a mole on it, black hair, screechy voice) of a principal, Ms. West!!!... I am going to be taking APCP English (Advanced Placement College Prep...you can do either or both), APCP History (the APCP classes are my home!!), Biology (is this the class where we dissect a frog? eewie!), Algebra I, Band (yeah!!! go band!), gym for 1/2 year **required or else I'd be somewhere else, typing class for 1/2 year because we normally take it in 7th, but they just figured I was an 8th grader due to my AP classes (in middle school, AP is all they offer), Spanish I think for 1/2 year and either careers or something else. I'm going to be kind of a loner this year...Bio, Algebra, Band, and Gym may be the only classes I see them...oh well. I'm super excited!! We have these planners we carry around that are not only planners, they are the school rulebook and our passbook.
And I'd rather be out early and in early-Ohio summers get WAY too hot WAY too fast. The extra snowday tacked on at the end of summer was unbearable. We had our last exams of the day-hotter than all get out!
Luck, Luck, Luck!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nice job on the walking, Tara! That's great!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I happened to act like a 150er in every way yesterday!!!! It was great!
I won't be weighing in at WW until the end of the month (since I only weigh in once a month now, and I am doing the 5 per month challenge, so I try to weigh in to get my total for the month), so this is just from my own personal scale, first thing in the morning, standing in my 'birthday suit' (as my grandmother would say), and I say the scale read..........
149.8
Now I realize things can go up and down, and tomorrow it may say something totally different, and if I did go to WW (and I do wear more than my birthday suit when I weigh in there) it would not say this.......but still.....it was so cool to see that number pop up!
Anyway, I have to say I have had a good week! Vacation Bible School has kept me busy at night so my mind is off food, and when they sit the cookies out for the kids they are usually gone so fast that I don't even have a chance to pick one up. :rotfl: .
Anyway, just have to share that happy moment with you guys. I have been so busy this week becasue of VBS that I haven't been on line much and I haven't been able to keep up reading all the posts. I should be back to normal next week.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Debra
(BTW, I have gotten SO many comments this week at VBS from people at church about my weight, so I guess people can tell I have lost weight. They keep asking me how I did it and I just tell them that I am eating less, nothing magical or fancy, just eating less calories. They seem surprised and ask me if there is anything that I am not allowed to have :confused3 and I just tell them, no....it is just a matter of eating less calories, plain and simple. Yesterday I even had cheesecake bars! Those little ones that philladelphia cream cheese makes and they are in the cold section of the supermarket--very good! So no, there is nothing that I can not eat, I just can't eat a lot of it! They always seem surprised :goodvibes . But it is working for me so far! Another 10-12 pounds to go!).
Hey girls! First off I want to apologize. I only come on here to either vent or celebrate a victory. I am so bad at giving everyone else feedback and that is too selfish. I have been doing awful lately and really need support and you all deserve to get that from me.
I have completely fallen off the bandwagon. Dh and I went out to eat 3 times this past week and we are visiting my parents this weekend so it won't get any better. I got really discouraged with the marathon training and just stopped working out/running all together. I have also gained back 3 lbs. I promise myself to get back at it next week.
I hope all you girls are keeping up the positive attitudes and really enjoying your healthy new bodies!!
Amanda,
So glad to hear from you! Eating out can be VERY hard. What I have been doing is asking for a box right from the start (I tell the server to bring me a box ahead of my food). Then when the good comes, I put half (or more) of it in the box and set it aside. Then I enjoy my dinner (and DH has leftovers for the next day). This has been working very well for us. I don't worry about going out to eat any more and I have been able to enjoy special nights going out with DH and the kids without feeling like I 'blew it'!
I do like to know ahead of time when we are going out so that I eat light during the day and save up that night. That does help.
As for the marathon training, I can't help there. I don't exercise (still just can't bring myself to do that part, and I know I should, but I hate it...a LOT). Perhaps you can start on Monday and go forward from there. Is it really too late for the marathon training? Would there still be time to get ready?
As for time at family, well go for smaller portions. I have been doing this also. I have only been taking 1 spoonful of things, and I have been using a salad plate instead of a dinner plate (which I realize you can't do that at the in laws, but in this case, I would take 1 spoonful of something and spred it out some so it looks like more and you don't get the "take more, you didn't take enough" speech). Don't pick up bites during the day (like cookies or whatever nibbles that are around. Remember to drink lots of no-calorie drinks (water is best).
Hope it goes well this weekend. Don't give it. It can happen for you, but it all takes time and commitment.
Debra
Today went fairly well, however I did end up having Wendy's for lunch, because I forgot to bring something to the Garage Sale and since it is at my parents house, who are on vacation there was nothing in the house.
The garage sale is going very well, we sold alot and still have a lot of baby stuff to go. The scary part is I actually enjoyed spending all day by myself watching the sale. I don't know when the last time was that I got to sit a do nothing all day. In between customers, I read a book and just enjoyed the peace and quite.
Regina
Regina! I love garage sales...it's one of the few times you can hang outside and just relax with an excuse to not answer the phone, not do laundry, not run errands...glad you had a restful one! :) And use the funds to buy some dream clothes for yourself! :)
Amanda...there is just no way you can gain 3 pounds in a week and it be real weight..(well, sure there is...but that would mean eating over 4,000 calories a day or such!) I'm sure it's just water weight from the sodium and higher fat foods that usually go along with eating out. Enjoy this weekend with your family and eat whatever you want but do what Debra said and just watch your portions...I enjoy eating a bit or two of everything and don't knock myself for it. Then when you get back...stock your fridge with fresh fruit/veggies, some good healthy snacks (mozzarella sticks, cheese/wheat crackers, yogurt etc.) and pick up where you left off...there are 52 weeks in a year ...we're all entitled to some weeks off in that time...just remember to not worry about it but put it behind you and move on. You can do it!
Well, my day of rest was great yesterday...but I was sooo tired...I figured out why...I started TOM today...ugh! So I'm about to do my weekly weigh in and just had to check the news and morning report before I get the nerve to step on the scale...after walking 26 miles I was hoping to see a little loss but TOM always puts a curve on that one...the good news is that next week I should have a really good loss...so here's hoping for some luck that TOM doesn't do too much damage. And yesterday I really got my water in..great..I'm sure it's still in! :)
Tara
Well, TOM hit but he wasn't too cruel...I'm at 179.8...so atleast I didn't see the 180's! But that's a 1.6 pound gain from last week...the good news is that my clothes are all looser...so with this first week of walking 26 miles I know I put on some muscle weight as well...so I'm not so worried about the number as long as I know my body is resculpting itself...I'll do cardio pilates tonight to get my workout in for today...and I just slimfasted...have a birthday party tonight...here's the fixings...
other couples bringing some stuff so I'm just making
bacon wrapped chestnuts in a brown sugar/chili sauce/mayo topping
deviled eggs
Dutch botercake (my friend is from Holland and has no family in the states...she's one of 13..so I thought baking a traditional Dutch cake would remind her of home)
Southern banana pudding (her request...she loves this...I've never made it so I hope it turns out)
strawberries/grapes with fruit dip
cupcakes for the kiddoes
and pizza for the kiddoes
Whew!! Looks like I'll be slimfasting for lunch because I know I'm going to nibble on all of the above!
You have done SO GREAT with your walking! I wish I could get myself to do that also. I ams sure that 1.6 pounds will come right off in no time! Parties are so hard. If you can stay strong all day and save up calories for tonight you should still be able to indulge a little without going overboard. Just remember that 180 mark and how you never want to see that again!
Maybe someone will bring a veggie tray that you can nibble on. Carrots have saved me many a time!
Hope all goes well.
Debra
Good afternoon!
I'm sorry I've been MIA for a couple of days! I've been so busy!
First things first, my back is SO much better. I would say I still have some dull pain, but nothing nearly as bad as earlier this week. Thanks to all for your kind words! Nothing compares to pain you cannot control (but I'm not holding my breath because I know we have a lot of moms on this thread! ;) I'm sure childbirth is worse! AH!)
Yesterday was awesome! My parents and I went to the Wisconsin State Fair. We try to go every year, but, as my sister and I have gotten older, it's gotten much harder for all of us to go...hence, that's why my sister wasn't with us. We arrived about 10:30am and I think we left about 7pm or so. I calculated (minus the time sitting for lunch and dinner) that I stood/walked for a grand total of 7 hours! Let me tell you, I have not slept this well in a long time! LOL! Surprisingly, my feet didn't hurt that bad and, frankly, this was good practice seeing that I'm back to work in about two weeks! ( :faint: )
As for the nutritionist visit, it was power packed and really good! I actually felt really good because she said she could tell that I knew a lot about nutrition...I just need to act on it more! ;) I have a bunch of things to read over and will share them with you all soon! :) It was a great meeting and I really enjoyed this person and how she explained everything so well.
Tara - I can't believe how fast you walk! Kudos to you! We have a lot of lakes around here so it's nice to get a walk outside, as well! :)
Jen - Thanks for your kind words! :)
Maria - :rotfl2: You crack me up! Your thinking is just like me...woo hoo! I lost weight and now I get less food?! Huh?! LOL! I know...somehow it seems backwards, doesn't it? ;) Ah, and for my classroom...I'm going back on Monday to see what state of disarray it's in! LOL! I can't even think about it now because I feel like I have so much to do, but it goes really fast once I get down to cleaning! Let's put it this way...major activity points next week! LOL! ;)
Regina - Yes, today is a much better day! :) Glad to hear that you are enjoying the peace and quiet today! :)
Debra! Debra! Debra! Oh my goodness! Woo hoo! Kudos to you girl! :)
Amanda - Don't give up! Come back to us! I've already restarted here about 10 times...LOL! (Or maybe it's more... ;) )
Well, here's to a healthy and happy weekend! :)
Lisa
Today’s nutritionist tip of the day:
(Provided by Northwest Community Healthcare)
4 weeks to more fruits and vegetables:
Week One:
Focus on Breakfast: Try to eat at least four different types of fruits or 100% juice during the week for breakfast.
Ideas: Bananas, apples, oranges, grapefruit, melons, berries, peaches, plums, grapes and kiwi. Put fruit on your cereal or eat a banana on the go. Drink orange or grapefruit juice.
Week Two:
Focus on Snacks: Try to include fruits and vegetables in all your snacks this week.
Ideas: Carrots, celery, low-sodium tomato juice, cucumber sticks, radish halves, baby carrots, zucchini sticks, broccoli florets. Take a few of these to work.
Week Three:
Focus on Dinner: Try to include at least 2 or 3 servings of vegetables with every dinner you eat this week.
Ideas: A salad with 1 cup of leafy greens and a 1/2 cup of sliced veggies equals 2 servings. Include a steamed veggie sid dish and even an entrée based on veggies such as pasta primavera, vegetarian lasagna, chili, vegetarian pizza, etc.
Week Four:
Focus on Dessert: Treat yourself to fresh fruit for dessert this week.
Ideas: Fresh melon, berries, plums, peaches, cherries, apricots, bananas, grapes, oranges, and kiwi. Place a bowl of cubed fresh fruit on the table during dinner for everyone to eat afterwards. Serve a fresh fruit plate or cup for dessert.
What a TOMfilled week this one is. Mine came at the picnic...and I didn't know it. Great...what a fun week this one will be. I started feeling the cramps but thought it was all the swimming...probably a blessing that I didn't step on the scale!
All I can say is: thank goodness the frosting is out of the house!!!
I will admit it...I joined the TOM party early this morning. What the heck is going on!? LOL! Nothing too exciting here, but going to get some groceries! Have a great day everyone! :)
Today’s nutritionist tip of the day:
(Provided by Northwest Community Healthcare)
Optimal Calcium Requirements:
Infant:
Birth-6 mo. - 400mg
6mo.-1 yr. - 600mg
Children:
1-5 yrs. - 800
6-10 yrs. - 800-1200
Adolescents/Young Adults:
11-24 yrs. - 1200-1500
Men:
25-65 yrs. - 1000 mg.
Women:
25-50 yrs. - 1000mg.
Over 50 yrs. (postmenopausal) - 1500mg.
Over 50 yrs. (on estrogen) - 1000mg.
Over 50 yrs. (not on estrogen) - 1500mg.
Over 65 yrs. - 1500 mg.
Pregnant and Nursing - 1200-1500mg.
--
How do I calculate the mg in each serving?
This only works for calcium, but simply look at the back of the nutrition label at the percent listed for calcium. Change the percent sign into a zero and that is the number of mg. for a serving of that product. For example, let's say your milk has 20% Calcium...change the % to a 0 and you have 200 mg. of Calcium in that product per serving.
--
Other meanings when you read the food labels:
"Contains (or Provides) Good Source of Calcium" - means - 100-190 mg. calcium
"High (or Rich in, Excellent) Source of Calcium" - means - 200 mg. or more calcium
"More (or Fortified, Enriched, Added)" - means - at least 10% more calcium than nature gave it
