Wendy, did you stay on the island? What hotel did you use? We looked at Mission Point, but it seemed so expensive, but very nice. We have thought about going there next year for our 25th wedding anniversary (and yes, with the kids, they go everywhere with us--by our 35th we may have a trip to ourselves).
I would love to hear about your trip since we are looking into for next year. The movie "Somewhere in Time" has a special relationship to our courtship and so this island has always had a special place in our hearts.
Thanks!
Debra
Hi Debra, yep, our kids go everywhere too. That was one of the things I looked for in a relationship, the commitment to have a great family and all that jazz!
We didn't stay on the Island. We stayed at Best Western Dockside. Its the first hotel on Huron St after Schepler's ferry. You are able to walk everywhere. My DD and DH biked around the isle, 8.2 miles. And they did the 520 steps round trip to the Arch rock. I am not able to all that, so my DS and I went to Lake State for a tour and enrollement info. We stopped at Tequemena (sp?) falls on the way, near White Fish point.
Mission Point is pretty expensive, but we stay in town, rather than on the island and we think it is just as great. There are about 5 hotels that are less than a 10 minute walk into town.
Go to this site,
Mackinaw City
it has a load of information for you. There is another one, that focuses on the historic stuff around
Historic Mackinaw
Lots of info. So much to do. There is even a live theater there. And did you know, that their shopping complex, Mackinaw Crossings, was designed by Disney Imagineers? The one in Frankenmueth Michigan has one as well.
There are TONS of Somewhere in Time shops. I LOVED that movie. And you are able to do a tour associated with it. There might be a link on one of those web sites. We always do the forts in the city and on the island. You can even have lunch on the terrace in the fort on the island.
Any more questions, please ask! We go every year, so it is a favorite spot of ours.
Have a great time exploring the web pages!
Wendy
