Hello everyone! Finally back from vacation and all. Lots of going ons while I was gone, and I am certainly going to take time to read all of it. It helps me more just to read others stories, goals and achievements than anything.

So, hope all have had a successful week, and more later.

Mackinaw Island was wonderful! Great weather, fun with the kids, and all that jazz!

Best to all

Wendy, did you stay on the island? What hotel did you use? We looked at Mission Point, but it seemed so expensive, but very nice. We have thought about going there next year for our 25th wedding anniversary (and yes, with the kids, they go everywhere with us--by our 35th we may have a trip to ourselves).

I would love to hear about your trip since we are looking into for next year. The movie "Somewhere in Time" has a special relationship to our courtship and so this island has always had a special place in our hearts.

Thanks!
Debra

Hi everyone. Welcome new people. Hello to everyone who has been wondering where I have been.

I am finally out of school. We finished yesterday. It has been a crazy week for me. We finished exams on Tuesday, had graduation on Wed and finished up on Thursday. ON top of this I ended up working with my son's school (I don't teach there) because their play was up for 8 awards in a statewide competition Tuesday night (yes on top of everything else that goes on at the end of a school year). I was fitting and pressing costumes on Sunday night and Monday night. ON Tuesday I finished exams, graded them, got the rest of my grades in and then went over to my son's school to go with them to this competition. It is held just like the Tony Awards from NY. Each of the best schools nominated got to perform. So the kids had to go early go through a rehersal on their stage and then eat and change and then sit through the award ceremony. OUr kids were wonderful bu they did not win any awards. They were disappointed but they were wonderful at the ceremony.

My eating has been a little strange but within my calorie count. NOt much exercise because of the crazy schedule but a little bit every day. I did get in 60 minutes today which was great. I did a little cleaning and then some knitting. It has been a pretty relaxing day.

I don't know whwat I am going to do for Father's Day. My husband is not gooing to be home until the afternoon because he is on a camping trip. My sister is having a cookout but I would have to up by myself. My older son is working and my younger son has to study for finals on Monday. So I think I will stay home and try to get to see my dad next weekend.

Menopause :crazy2: I don't know what to say. It is like your body is doing things that you have no control over. I am through most of it. I developed high blood pressure, weight gain, problems with a mamogram because of less dense breasts and then this Jan an irregular heartbeat (the cardiologist didn't say that this is the cause of it but most women that I spoke to say it is). As someone who has been through it, you will survive it. There are days where you swear that you won't make it but it does get better. I only started losing weight after my numbers said that I was through it. Try yoga and exercise. These seemed to help me. Yes it does take several years to go through it. Good luck.

Well I have written enough for today. I will check in this weekend.

Just sending in my weigh in for this week. I am still at 190 (After last week I thought I would go up so I am happy with just staying the same.)

Good luck to everyone this week. Hope it is a losing week.

Hi Everyone!

Well my first weigh in is nothing to get excited about. I am down 1/2 pound. At least it is in the right direction! TOM is starting today, so I am hoping for a better weigh in next week.

Hi Debra, yep, our kids go everywhere too. That was one of the things I looked for in a relationship, the commitment to have a great family and all that jazz!

We didn't stay on the Island. We stayed at Best Western Dockside. Its the first hotel on Huron St after Schepler's ferry. You are able to walk everywhere. My DD and DH biked around the isle, 8.2 miles. And they did the 520 steps round trip to the Arch rock. I am not able to all that, so my DS and I went to Lake State for a tour and enrollement info. We stopped at Tequemena (sp?) falls on the way, near White Fish point.

Mission Point is pretty expensive, but we stay in town, rather than on the island and we think it is just as great. There are about 5 hotels that are less than a 10 minute walk into town.

Go to this site, Mackinaw City

it has a load of information for you. There is another one, that focuses on the historic stuff around Historic Mackinaw

Lots of info. So much to do. There is even a live theater there. And did you know, that their shopping complex, Mackinaw Crossings, was designed by Disney Imagineers? The one in Frankenmueth Michigan has one as well.

There are TONS of Somewhere in Time shops. I LOVED that movie. And you are able to do a tour associated with it. There might be a link on one of those web sites. We always do the forts in the city and on the island. You can even have lunch on the terrace in the fort on the island.

Any more questions, please ask! We go every year, so it is a favorite spot of ours.

Have a great time exploring the web pages! :)

Hi Guys,

Right now I can't seem to lose weight, but I can control my exercise. So, just do what you can when you can. Even if results don't appear right away, you have to know that you are blessing your heart, and eventually all the habits add up and you will see results!

Maria

Maria, I too struggle, with the exercise stuff. I have found lots of encouragement on this site! I take everyone's advice to heart. I am glad I am seeing results, but when I look at the road ahead, I panic. I am getting healthier, and in better shape. I no longer believe that I won't live past 60. My health has gotten better. I still worry. Guess it's that worry that also helps to keep me going. I still wonder at how far I have gone, considering in January I wasn't able to walk more than 10 feet without pain, or exhaustion. It has been rough, and the tears have been shed, but I can notice changes in my physical self, and that is a great encouragement. :sunny:

Thanks for the great thoughts, and encouragement, everyone!

Keep on losing!

Wendy

Wendy, thanks SO much for the information! The hotel you stayed in looks good, it looks like it is easy to get to a lot of things, even the ferry over to the island.

I don't know why I didn't think about staying in the town instead of the island (I guess my Disney Vacation Club has me spoiled and I forget that I can't afford places like that normally ;) ).

I remember DH and I stayed on the island once years ago (before kids) and it was pretty quiet after the last ferry left and there wasn't much for us to do (we just walked around then had dinner). We can do that in the town and with an indoor pool at the hotel it would give our kids something to do as well.

Thanks again!
Debra

I'm down 2 pounds this week. I've only lost 8 pounds since I restarted WW but my friend at work told me that I looked like I lost weight! Boy did that make me feel good. And I was able to fit into pants I haven't been able to wear for a while. :sunny:

Have a good week everyone!

I thought I posted my WI last week...

I was down to 193!!!!!! YAY 193!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Tomorrow I leave for ALIVE, so I'm trying to finish packing, keep up with work, and eat somewhat healthily. Today's goals are to drink the water and keep the snacking on the lower side of things.

Good morning ladies! Yippee! I was down a pound, which I think is great since I was on vacation all last week, indulging where I shouldn't have. Must have been all the walking that I did! 213.5 it my weight Tara! I am very excited!

We are on our way!

You bet Debra! Very glad to of helped!

Aarrrrggh!

I'm up .5. TOM arrives in two days, so I hope that means I actually have a loss in there somewhere. Only time will tell.

We're off to New Hampshire for the rest of this week. Hopefully I will eat o.k. I'll miss the TM, but we'll be going to theme parks so I should do plenty of walking.

On the bright side, when I put on my swimsuit yesterday, it just slipped right on. I must be doing something right...

I did make my goal of 23 miles last week, so next week my goal will be 25. Eventually, all that exercise will result in a loss. I just need to be patient and eat salad!

Have a great week, everyone!
Maria

I think I updated everyone...ooops! Maria I just realized I shaved .5 off instead of adding...maybe I can forecast the future and know you'll lose it plus some next week! :)

Jen! I know I updated it last week...I think some of the times I've gone in to edit and put new weights the server is busy and doesn't catch it and I forget that it didn't go through! Think I've caught you up and WAY TO GO 193!!! :) You'll be back in the 180's soon! And I bet the 170's for school! :)
Have a GREAT TRIP!

Tbstein!! I bet Makinaw was GREAT! I had a friend get married there and never made it to the wedding (was 9 months pregnant :)) But I remember researching it and it looked soooo restful! Man, the nice walks you probably had there...hence the great weigh in! :)

Gang! Let's go knock those pounds off!!! We can do it! :)
TAra

Tara-thanks for updating.

I plan that I will be setting an example to myself. I will be making the best possible choices that I can given the circumstances. We stop for breakfast tomorrow at McDonalds...I think a Fruit and Walnut Salad sounds good, and maybe a cinnamon roll. And we've stopped at Wendy's coming home in the past. To be honest with you, just thinking about a burger makes my tummy feel sick...I may be having one of those Frescatta (sp?) sandwiches. I will be drinking water, walking and even having a funnel cake! I may also report on healthy fair-food choices :)

I'll chime in with my thoughts early early tomorrow. I think. We leave my house at 5:00 am my time so I'll be quite the early birdy! :dance3:

I'm gonna start a journal today at home...I need something I can take with me when we take short trips and just write in everyday....I need more help being accountable...I give myself all kinds of excuses (It's Father's Day, it's weigh in day so I can treat myself, the kids were sick all day I need to order out....etc. etc.) But why can't I realize that food is NOT rewarding? I've got to find other rewards for myself and figure out that fresh fruits and veggies are a REWARD not a punishment! :)

So let's get our engines running and make some wise decisions...those pounds will fall off! :)

Tara

I have finally decided to start exercising regularly agian. I have a goal to accomplish the Army Ten Miler on Oct 8 in under 2 hours. You have to be able to maintain a 15 min mile to be a finisher. I have been doing some walking but not consistently.

I will be in Maine again this weekend. I will start to watch what I eat and eliminate the soda after getting home on Sunday. I plan on taking my mom on walks while we are there. She is 77 and has had both knees replaced. We don't walk fast but we put the steps in.

Tonight I plan on going to the Erie Canal and walking at least 4 miles. Last night I walked 3 miles around the neighborhood. I don't like walking there because the slanted roads bother my legs. I haven't gotten the courage to put some run intervals into my walks yet. I start the training program for the race on July 3rd so I will probably start jogging then.

Have a great day everyone. I will try to check back in later.
