First . . . many hugs and prayers for your DD and family.

Though I am in healthcare, I am not a nurse. But I know I was a patient in the hospital a few months ago for about a week. After my wonderful experience, I sent a letter to the CEO of that particular hospital praising the nurses by name, and then sent a copy to each nurse for them to have.

I later saw one of my favorite nurses and she acknowledged that she got my letter, but never heard squat from the CEO! I was certain he would say or do something nice.

Not sure how much you want to spend, but you may bring a nice fruit tray with a thank you note, or even a deli tray for each shift so no one will be left out.

Perhaps your daughter could write each one a thank you note and put a gift card to a local WalMart inside each one.

I agree with the above. Honestly, the greatest reward would be the letter to administration. They are few and far between and could go a long way in allowing someone to get promoted or get a raise or just simply recognized for doing a great job.

C. Ann...It sounds like DD is doing better. I'm glad to hear this. And I'm so glad that the nursing care is good...it makes all the difference.
The nurses love to hear that they've done a good job. We hear always hear when things go wrong, but seldom hear from the happy patients and/or families.
If you decide to do something other than the "Thank You's" food always goes over good. Since it's so soon after the holidays and many are on diets, maybe a fruit basket would be nice. Flowers are also nice. The patients always get them, but we rarely do. Just be aware, that any gift you give has to be for the entire staff and no individual gifts unless it's just a small token...they don't allow it. Good luck to your DD and keep us updated on how she's doing.

We sent my Moms nurses a fruit bouquet from this company..http://www.ffbc.com/ As well as a nice thank you card.
They absoulutely loved it!!

Many hospitals have recognition programs all ready in place. My hospital has a "caught in the act" card system (patients and staff can fill them out) that can be redemmed for a day off, meals etc. Ask if they have something in place for you to fill out. I usually give a free meal ticket to anyone mentioned by name in a patient letter sent to me as director.
Besides that group gifts of food or flowers are always appreciated.

Nurses always enjoy food :) One for each shift is good so they all get some.

If you can make sure the CEO knows how special each one is, then that is an added gift. It will go in each person's file.

I am very glad your DD is getting great care :)

My best to you both!

Our hospital has this too.

We have a catch me at my best program for parents to fill out-not many do-but every once in awhile they do and it's a very nice feedback

and as a nurse -we all love candy and fruit and anything edible-gift cards can't be used unless something is purchased for the whole unit-still appreciated!!!!(and don't forget the night shift-thats the one I work!!!!)

I'm so happy that your DD has received such great care!!! Nice to hear!!!! Hope she feels better soon!!!!

I'll add my vote for the letter. Our program is called "GEM" for "go the extra mile" and GEMs get free meals and other perks. Administration knows that someone must have been very well-cared for to take the time to write a letter of praise. Most people only make time to write letters of complaint.

And yeah, ordering pizza, bringing chocolates, donuts, fruit, deli trays, etc is alwyas well-received and appreciated :goodvibes

And I'm really happy to hear that your DD is getting good care despite the other problems she's had (I still can't understand why it too SO long to do the blood patch, but at least it's finally done!)

Here raises are based on a survery we get, when my dad was in the hospital before Christmas we got the two nurses who took care of him box of chocolates. Praise goes along way too.
