I don't have an answer to your question, but wanted to say sorry about your DD and hope all goes well. I hope she gets the answers and treatment she deserves.

As for your headaches, it could be a migraine or tension headache. You've stressed yourself out so much that your stress is now in your head. Try as best as you can (I know it's hard under the circumstances) to relax and get your thoughts together. Try taking excedrin for tension headache and hopefully you'll feel a little better. In the meantime, here's a couple of :grouphug: for you and DD. Keep us posted.

I'm sure the people on the DIS can!! All kidding aside, you people often seem to have more knowledge than the so-called professionals!!

Most of you know that DD is in the hospital - leakage from a spinal tap done last week.. She's had two MRI's done so far.. The first one was to try to determine the cause of the "original" headache and stiff neck that resulted in the tap being done in the first place - but the second one was done because the neurologist noticed that before she ever went to the hospital to begin with her BP was very low and has been getting LOWER since she was hospitalized.. He thought all the pain meds might have something to do with it but he has changed them around, changed the doses, etc., and still her BP is very low and at times, dropping dangerously low..

This morning the nurse came in to tell her that she couldn't have breakfast because they would be taking her to have her blood patch done in 10 minutes.. Then she came back and said to go ahead and eat because they "can't fit her in today.." HUH???? She's been waiting since Friday!!

Meanwhile I've got some kind of horrible, horrible headache myself that started Saturday - kept me in bed most of the day yesterday - is still pounding today - and I feel sick to my stomach non-stop..

They have already ruled out either type of meningitis for my DD (as they did for another young man who was there the same night she had the tap done), so I'm wondering if it's some other kind of "virus" causing these severe headaches..:confused3

Any ideas why her blood pressure would keep dropping? Something totally unrelated to the headaches and the pain in her spine?

And WHY are they making all this noise about shutting hospitals down when patients have to wait from Friday till who knows when just to get a blood patch done?????

I want to go to the hospital, but if I have something she could catch, I sure as heck don't want to ADD to her problems..

No one else in the house is sick yet - and I had my son-in-law check and double check the carbon monoxide detectors just in case..

A week from tomorrow I'm supposed to be leaving for Florida.. I'm not going ANYWHERE until this mess is straightened out!! :sad2:

Any possibility she may have lyme disease? My sons friend was hospitalized with that because of that. He had a flucuating heartbeat though. Google lyme symptoms they hit people pretty bad it seems.

Funny you should ask that, because the doctor at the Urgent Care Center asked her the same thing.. I'm sure they've done blood tests for it and if she had it, it would show up - right?:confused3

My daughter had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and had the same symptoms as meningitis. Hopefully they can get her the blood patch soon. Luckily DD didn't need one. Good luck and I hope you feel better too.

I hope you get some results soon. I just got home from taking my son to the hospital lab to be tested for mono.

A headache is one of the symptoms.

Are you in Rhode Island by any chance? I know they've been having problems with encephalitis recently. That's a bacterial infection though, and I don't know if it affects blood pressure

I don't have an answer for you, but I have prayers and hugs that you will all be feeling healthy very soon!

I went to the ER THREE times in 4 days with excruciating pain - the hospital kept telling me there was nothing wrong with me and asked my father and sister if I was a psych patient as I was obviously imagining it all. My HAIRDRESSER correctly diagnosed it as a gallbladder problem. I had hideous complications which lasted for months because of the delay and errors of the so-called professionals.

I absolutely agree with this. She NEEDS you.

I hope they find out soon what the problems are.

C.Ann when it rains it pours :( hope the doctors figure out the problem soon. pixiedust: pixiedust:

I havent read all the posts, so not sure if this has been covered- No, they may not have tested. Its one of those odd illnesses that is often over looked and hard to test for. Our nephew has it. It took OVER A YEAR to get a diagnosis. They said he was on drugs, had depression, was crazy, etc, etc. It was lymes. Now the insurance doesnt want to pay for it because they say we dont have Lymes disease in WA state. Doesnt matter that he has traveled in and out of the country and has been to places with Lymes. Anyway, the insurance company is question the testing used for the diagnosis. Its just not as cut and dry of a test at they would like it to be. And, because he never had the classic bullseye rash, they felt it was questionable.

this may be a long shot but-i had a co-worker who began having headaches, stiff neck, some nausea and went round and round with the doctors for several weeks trying to figure out the cause (i think they tested her for everything known to man, given several different meds to try-and those took a toll on her general health causing other problems). meantime her kids, dh started complaining of minor ailments (thought it was a minor flu bug that was going around). as co-worker's symptoms get odder and odder, the family seems to feel better but still has issues with headaches.

final outcome-family discovered a small gas leak in their home (they were doing some minor renovations). co-worker got the worst of it because her body was already somewhat 'compromised' due to some injuries/illnesses over the past year. kid's showed the least signs because they would leave to go to school everyday and spent the least amount of time in the house.

as for lyme disease-just last night i was watching a show on discovery health channel and they were discussing how most of the standard lyme disease tests have a terrible rate of false negatives. the specialist on the show was saying that if a person has the signs that indicate it they should insist on re-testing (and possibly seeing if the med. provider has access to one of the alternate tests than they got the original negative result on).

What about environmental causes? Mold in the new house?

A woman I know quit her job and collected w/c for years because she was feeling effects from what she thought was mold in her workplace. Turns out it was Lyme Disease.

Hope they figure this out soon!

I had to have a blood patch after my first son was born and I had the severe spinal headaches with the spinal anesthesia from my C-section. I feel for your daughter! I've never had headaches like that before. If I lifted my head off the pillow, tears would run down my face.

The blood patch took literally a few minutes, so I can't imagine why they've made her wait all this time, although I know they made me wait several hours to have it done once they decided to do it.

We have had several viral things come thru our ER with the same symptoms as meningitis. Maybe that is all it is. And it doesn't take that long to do a patch, I can't believe they are making her wait, poor thing...she probably has a splitting headache from that alone!

What's really strange is my friend's sister just went through something like this. She told me her sister had a fever, and a neck ache and headache and her back hurt (along with other symptoms but can't remember) well she went to the hospital and they did MRI's and other tests and noticed she has a leakage in her spinal cord. The first thing I thought of was meningitis (cuz she had the same symptoms my dad had when he had meningitis) but after more tests they found her brain was hemorrhaging. Apparently they link it back to when she flew on a plane last week and the pressurization in the plane I guess caused this to happen. She does remember that when she got off the plane she had a headache and I guess it just got worse. She is fine now.
