13 Year old gir declared brain dead has now officially died

I'm not up on this case at all, but I thought the family was the one insisting she's improving, recovering, etc. and the hospital and other medical professionals said she's gone?

As far as the donation seeking, I'd imagine anything would be used to pay the bills they are accumulating now, not be able to be used by the family. Not to say they couldn't be taking any funds and spending them, leaving the bills unpaid.

Yes, you are right, but there are lawyers who are encouraging their "hopes." I'm sure, somewhere, at some point, some quack Dr had to give them that hope. Because brain-dead doesn't indicate to a normal person that hope should be held out. My sister and I were talking about how we wonder what's happening behind the scenes, what the mood is by her bedside. Are the Dr's being up front and clear? Is another "professional" (and I use that term loosely) whispering in the family's ear? What benefit is there to dragging this out, other than racking up medical bills?

Thinking about it makes me sick and very sad for the family. I wish they would just allow themselves to grieve their loss. Because it is a loss. A very sad and tragic one. This whole spectacle is just making it worse.

Dr. Paul Byrne is apparently advising the family. He's a noted detractor of "brain death" as it relates to organ transplantation.

Wow, just saw that this thread was still going on - got to wondering about this girl. This is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever known allowing happening to a human body - is definitely one for the sciences. :confused3

Did not realize it would lawfully be allowed. How would 'anyone' (nurses, whatever) have the 'stomach' to tend to this deceased person? :faint:

The local media (print & TV) have not been reporting on this girl. I was so sure they'd have a whole expose on where the family has her hidden away, but they have been respectful in NOT further adding to the drama.

It's just so hard to believe that they are still hoping for a miracle.

I doubt it has anything to do with respect. Once the sexy "evil big hospital vs. poor victim" angle played out, it became clear this would be merely a sick spectacle from there on out. They moved on out of disinterest, not respect.

Even if she was really alive, why would a parent want to keep their child in a comatose state indefinitely? I know, her mom thinks the girl will recover but I have never heard of a patient in a long term coma completely recovering.

I would prefer my DD dead and buried over that sort of living hell.

Why do I have an odd feeling that she is actually no longer at any medical location but has already been... well, "laid to rest" is the nicest way to put it? I mean, I can't see any of what the family is saying to actually be happening.

Blossoming into a teenager before her eyes?? Lets say this vent etc keeps her going for another few years......she'll be a "teenager" in the body of a child. And looking awfully decayed and goodness knows what else. No teenager would want to look like that!

They posted a picture of Jari's painted nails on Facebook. I had to take a quick peek. So.. why not show how well she is doing? Show us that she is sitting up with a smiley face? Oh.. it's probably not her hands and she is probably already "resting". I think I'm done sympathizing with that family.

My thoughts exactly. I believe she was cremated within a week or two of leaving the Oakland hospital. They family found a sympathetic and/or shady funeral director who's keeping quiet. Maybe the urn with her ashes is listening to Beyoncé.

One would think that if the child was doing all that they'd be posting that video everywhere to say "we told you so. We told you our god would give us a miracle".

Quite simply, they're lying.

Well, ya know… crank up the bed, prop her up, put music on the iPod, paint her nails, and there you have it. IF she was recovering, they'd be posting pictures and shouting from the mountaintops about their faith and the miracle they received, how the big bad hospital misdiagnosed and "malpractice" them, etc. I don't feel bad for the mom and uncle anymore, although I feel bad for Jahi's siblings, as their mom has admitted that she is ignoring them and focusing all her attention on a dead body.
