13 Year old gir declared brain dead has now officially died

The local NY TV Station I watch here was saying this morning that she was released and *may* be heading our way to Long Island.

Yes, what was voted on vs. reality. My understanding is the current law is already "sliding down that slope". Now, they're adding children. :sad2: Parents, guardians, doctors, lawyers, caregivers,...who is deciding, which ones are too expensive, imperfect and/or inconvenient to live? I've heard, they are hoping, that it will help tourism. ;):upsidedow

Let the Kervorkians have a little snort/sport. Ah, almost seems like old times. Although, I'm a bit surprised, over one snarky comment. Bless your heart and thanks for the "friendly" reminder.

No secret, I'm pro-life...and consistent in my beliefs. I place value on human life and won't apologize for it. Now, I will leave this macabre "discussion" and go back to the holiday thread. :santa:

Aw come on...if I say something downright bizarre I expect to be called on it (and I have...over and over). And for the record, I often do not look at the name of the poster who says something in these uber long threads. Just the content. The point of my comment was that HOW ON EARTH does your being in a country NEARBY (but not even sharing boarders with) at the time a vote on the subject was taken make you somehow knowledgeable about the content? You have to admit, it was a very odd justification.

I was in the US (and trying to pay close attention) when Obamacare was passed and I still don't understand the details.

As for your stance on life. That I get. It's admirable. You have a moral compass pointing firmly in a direction and that I can fully support.

good for you. If you truly valued human life, you'd show compassion for people in unfathomable, unbelievable circumstances. But you don't, so i question whether you truly value human life or if you just like riding up there on your high horse.

You can believe what you want, but you don't get to make the decisions for my life. Thankfully.

+1

According to the UKs dailymail they've taken her body to her mothers home http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2534435/Body-brain-dead-Jahi-McMath-13-released-New-York-clinic-run-woman-father-suffered-brain-injury.html If this is true. What are thinking? And why does the dailymail seem to get so much info from this family?

This is just absolutely horrendous. I am appalled that this new beginnings facility are being so irresponsible. If they truly do believe that her brain just needs time to heal then someone needs to be investigating their qualifications and ability to care for their patients! No one with any kind of medical training would offer to do this. This family are setting themselves up for horrendous trauma as her body breaks down. I've seen it personally and even by now, in my experience, she will already be unrecognisable. The lasting memory the family will have will be just awful. This makes me so angry and so sad too

So they released a dead body to the mother and she might have brought it home?! This is truly setting a stage for other disasters and wasting resources! We will now have other people do exactly what this mother is doing because they can't let go or they want money. Who is paying for all this? This gravy train needs to end! Disgusting!

And, that's the thing that concerns me the most. Are we going to have a parade of grief stricken people filing lawsuits "demanding" certain kinds of treatment from hospitals and doctors? The resources....medical and legal....are mind-boggling. Not to mention the dampening effect this will have on people even wanting to go into the medical profession. Who, in their right mind, would want to be second guessed by parents, lawyers and judges? Not me.

I do think some good can come of this if it prompts a serious discussion of end of life care. I know it has prompted my DH and I to again review our living trusts. We also (for the first time) had this discussion with our kids. I want it clear to my family that I DO NOT WANT to be preserved like a museum exhibit once all possibility for meaningful life is gone.

Maybe that will be Jahi's legacy. We are ALL going to die. 100% of us. Planning for end of life is the final testament to living. Please, please, please....make a plan! Think about it, as uncomfortable as that might be.

I finally have some time to read the thread on the nurse's forum that someone posted a link to, but I can't find the link! What page of the thread is it on?

I just don't understand what they are thinking. Whether she went home or to the NY facility, she's not going to get any better. They're just making it harder on themselves. It's only a matter of time until her heart gives out. :confused3

I don't believe this facility has the proper licenses needed to care for in patients. I might be wrong, but I don't think I am. With all the publicity, and the announcement of a lawsuit already I think any facility that was even considering it would drop the idea faster than they would drop a hot potato.

She's not alive though so maybe the licenses needed is a moot point. What are the laws pertaining to caring for a deceased person? I was reading about the case in TX where the mother is being kept on machines for the sake of the fetus and the lawyer for the father says the TX law shouldn't and doesn't apply to her since she is clinically dead.

As someone posted above, I was really hoping this poor little girl's body would shut down before it came to her having to be moved.

Wow, that is 100% NOT what they voted. They voted to allow minors with specific health criteria and the elderly with dementia to request euthanasia. It is NOT allowing people to just randomly start killing their kids, old people, and the depressed. Good lord! Nothing like stating something WAY different then the truth. And until you have dealt with someone who is flat out suffering from an illness, who is dying bit by bit every day, who is suffering daily... then you just don't know. When you have your mother looking at you, the pain on her face clear, asking you to please help stop the pain... to stop her life... then you just don't know. Your post is flat out offensive with how incorrect it presents the information.
But oh, soooo much more dramatic than the truth.

When this first happened I had such empathy and sadness for this family, but as they have acted in such a 'clownish' ridiculous, immature manner since then, sadly I have lost most of my sadness and it has turned to disgust! :(

This is exactly what they are doing to that poor child. She's 'gone' folks, and no no matter how preposterous you act, it will 'not' bring her back.

What do they hope to gain but publicity and attention to themselves?? Guess that's what they're looking for at this point. No loving family would intentionally put a child through this.

Now the family "requests" privacy?

:confused3

I agree!
