$125 for new Princess Character Breakfast

Just looked at Mar 30th, and it seems to be full. There are reservations available for the 28/29, but for the 30th, they would only take a ressie of 2 at 8am.

Yeah we made reservations this morning around 7am for March 30. I wanted to get a late time, but only 9:40 or 8:30am was available. So 9:40 it is.

I’m just not interested in this. I have 2 girls but neither have ever been overly interested in the Princesses. There are lots of things I feel are worth splurging on...other character meals, WOC Dessert Party, staying on-site...but if I’m paying $125 (plus tip & tax) I feel like it should be an amazing menu with endless mimosas. I just can’t see spending $250 on breakfast for my kids. I can afford it. It’s just not something with any value to me. I’m sure there are people that this will appeal to. I’m just not one of them.

I have no doubt this will be busy at first. The question is whether it's something they can maintain over time. It's at a price point that it likely will be a one and done for many who go.

I just hope that if it doesn't hold the business over time that Disney doesn't uses this as a means of saying people aren't interested in princess themed meals any more. Ariel's Grotto always seemed busy. We went every single trip. Something like this? No.

*sigh* .... #truth

I have no kids so this has no appeal to me but if I had a kid/s of princess loving age I can see myself trying to come up with the spending money for it.

For many things I can, what made me feel they jumped the shark woth this one is that even I thought nope.
Usually its DH saying no and I am desperate to do it (Dessert parties, staying on site etc) and I can see the value or at least enough I want to try it once.....but this is beyond my splurge line (from.a value point of view, again if it was dinner maybe closer but the location doesnt instest me really.

I think it would be worse for everyone to send Disney a quick email giving feedback.
I will send a "glad you have a Princess Meal coming back, it has been missed, dont mind that there is a luxury option it that this diesnt suit our family and I hope something more like what they had at Ariels grotto returne as well"

In Jackie’s article she mentioned the keepsakes, one being an autograph book and pen apparently.

I feel like I am criticizing everything about this breakfast but again, unless you are doing this breakfast on your very first morning of your trip, many kids will ALREADY have a book they have purchased signed by other characters.
When they said premium keepsakes I thought they would be some exclusive thing, a jewelry box, glass slipper, Christmas ornament, special pin, I don’t know.

My problem with the keepsake gift is that, from my understanding, everyone gets the same gift. I'm actively minimizing my treasures; I don't want multiple copies of the same thing in the house.

I'm fond of food as a giveaway. Do they still do the specialty chocolates and truffles? If they put those in a nice box for each member of the party, I could see some value in that.

The menu turns my stomach tbh. I'm SO coffee and a pastry in the morning. Eggs and bacon are fine if we're talking brunch. Sheperd's Pie, Slow Braised Short Ribs and Pork Belly... yeah no, those are never going to fly with me at breakfast, that reads like a mistake menu!

Lol! "A mistake menu" I love that! And I so agree too! Just disgusting for breakfast or even brunch for that matter, in my opinion. It sounds more like brunch combined with dinner. And leaning heavily towards dinner at that. Sounds like a really messy kind of menu too. (Shudder)

The thing that bugs me the most about it is not that they have this pricey experience, but that it's ALL they have if you want a princess meal. I hate this trend toward elite experiences at the cost of everyday fun for families of more modest means. For Pete's sake, throw families a bone here (don't quite mean that literally). Princess happy meal at the Corn Dog Castle, served by a princess. Beignets and Tiana :). I'm joking, but seriously, it's a shame IMO to only cater to those with $$$$.

Yep. I'm a pretty die hard Disney fan, but this just makes my stomach turn., and it's not just the thought of eating mac and cheese and short ribs for breakfast. I get it, there are people in this world that have money and a lot of it and they will continue to pay whatever Disney charges for an exclusive event. And Disney will continue to keep raising their prices more and more. It just leaves a horrible taste in my mouth.

This is one splurge I just can’t wrap my head around. At that price I can’t justify the experience just to meet the princesses. Such a bummer. We loved Ariel’s Grotto when we went a few years ago and I’d hoped they’d find something similar to bring back. This is just too much and I love a really special splurge every now and again.

As ticket prices increase I’d really love to see Disney make an effort to make some of the add ons a little more affordable, not more extravagant. I get that some people can and will pay this, but things like this are not really feasible for most families.

Totally agree. I could understand $40 or $50 per person for a character meal. Even on a more limited income, it was possible to save and you could afford to splurge on a special character meal and justify the expense once in a while. But the cost to me for this is beyond ridiculous.

I know ALOT of bloggers planning to go on the 30th.

Are they the same bloggers who were duped into buying $600 for $20 Payless shoes? Because I have a hard time justifying why this meal should be so expensive, especially for a child who will eat 2 bites of a pastry.

Blog post is up. Weird food or not, my daughter would be delighted to have Mulan teach her to strike a pose. I wonder how they’ll handle the logistics for the patio part? Are there only a few seating times so people are in groups? I have questions.
3 things - it definitely seems like it’s an EXPERIENCE, not just a meal where they come to tables for an autograph and quick pic.
I REALLY think they have the menu mixed up and it will get sorted out.
Lastly, BRAVO Disney for saying “girls AND boys can let their imaginations soar”. I’ve always let my boys be into the same princesses their sister was, in fact my now 8 year old used to wear Elsa shirts EVERYWHERE(she was going to be his wife-I have the cutest vid of him singing through Norway at Epcot about how they were going to get married and I was going to get to live with them in the castle). Just kudos for them for being inclusive :thumbsup2

I dont blame the bloggers for going, I look to KtP or Disney Daily for more info than what Disney provides so I can judge value on all sorts of events/options in the parks.

I really don't care that they have or those that want it, I just also want the choice for something cheaper as well.

Are there any face characters left that appear in any other character meals?

Maybe the issue is staffing for talented CMs (quick and witty answers, makeup, costume) it takes to be Belle’s friend is spread too thin or too expensive for the taste of the bean counters to make an Ariel meal profitable enough any longer.

Maybe even here the bean counters said...okay you can have 6(!) princesses but it has to be $125 dollars and Chef Andrew has to serve leftovers.

I have a few more random thoughts about this:

  1. there's no way WE will be able to afford to do this. But I'm totally fine w/other people going if that's what they want to do and if they can afford it.
  2. the price does seem a bit ridiculous. For that amount of money, I'd rather have a REAL DINNER at Napa Rose, not 'dinner that they call breakfast.'
  3. an autograph book & pen? Big deal.
  4. it better be an epic experience for $125 for the kid price.
  5. this could all be an experiment on Disney's part. Like some time last year at WDW when Disney stupidly decided to sell 'cabanas' in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom for some insane amount of money. It must have been a huge flop. I mean duh, who wants to sit in a hot & sweaty enclosed tent in the middle of the afternoon on a hot & sweaty Florida day? After a few months, that offering quietly went the way of the dodo bird, never to be seen since. Based on guests' reactions & how many of these princess meals they actually sell, it could work out. Or it might not.
  6. BUT....Disney also knows that a BIG portion of their park guests at Disneyland are AP holders. People who go repeatedly on a regular basis. THOSE people go to character meals, too. But would they shell out $125/person for an overpriced princess meal? Only time will tell. I mean, Cinderella's Royal Table isn't even that much but at least you get to eat inside the castle.
  7. I'm interested in reading some of the bloggers' reviews of this new character meal. I think that the overall reaction will be something like "It's nice & the non-breakfast food was good, but it's very costly so take that into consideration."
  8. If you consider tax & tip, that $125/person character meal for a family of 4 turns into $700 total. That is a LOT of money. That's only $10 less than 3-day park hopper tickets for 2 people.
  9. However, Disney is probably NOT gearing this super-primo character meal towards middle class families. It's probably more in the realm of folks who hire a VIP tour guide every time they go to DL...more on that end of the financial spectrum. Honestly, DCA really could use a character meal. I wish they hadn't had chucked all of Ariel's Grotto for the Lamplight Lounge.

Ya know I’ve been thinking about this and here is my thoughts...

It seems like an expirennce with the princesses more then a meal really, with possibly some nice souvenirs to go with.

For around the same cost I could do the whole sha-bang at BBB, not being garunteed to front of the line princess (remember they don’t garuntee it anymore), get the couple princesses that happen to be at Royal hall and that’s that.

Or maybe- I get my daughter dolled up myself in our room before hand, and her and I go to this meal/ expirence together and get some really good princess interactions and expirences.

That’s kind of where my mind went with it. I’m looking forward to the reviews.

Was thinking of taking DGD, then just read the price......don't think so.
Then read the menu and that made it a definite no for me and she wouldn't eat anything

I liked how Disney mentions in the end of the blog that there are still many other ways to meet the princesses and then lists them all out

Just an occasional face character at Plaza Inn. But I can't imagine a shortage of talent is the issue on Southern California.
