12/6/08 Eastern ~ ***CURRENT ROSTER pg 68, post # 1007!

Welcome Marsha!!! I have a DD who will be just shy of 4 so I am sure we will see you at the Mickey pool. :)

Joy - Let me know if you need help with anything. :) Are you feeling better?

Hi Marsha! Welcome! I think we're in a similar room on the other side of the ship... near the aft elevators, verandah room.

I am going to gather up info and put together our "get acquainted" website this weekend. We have quite a few on the list now. I am so excited :)

Awesome. Can't wait. :goodvibes

Hello

Checking in once again....

I am very excited about this cruise. We will be traveling with lots of extended family so it will be great!

There will be me and hubby.... My MIL then our kids... Emily (19) and her girlfriend/partner Bri (21), Alex 13, Katherine 9, and Jeffrey 7. My oldest daughter (21) may join us....

We've got the Roy Disney Suite and a category 12 for grandma so she can have some alone time from the group. I may need to sneak down there a few times!

Looking forward to the get acquainted website.

The last Disney cruise we took we never really got to meet the people we met through the boards. They had a lot of different interests than us and we couldn't make the meets they planned. I'd like it to be different this cruise!

Everyone is super excited. My sisters and I talk about it all the time.

Your two kids Alex and Katherine would probally get along great with my younger sister Kennedy. She'll be turning 13, 30 days before the cruise. We're trying to find her a few friends for her to hang out with. She has a dis boards acount but hasn't really been talking to anyone. :) She'll warm up. But anyway. She's easy to get along with. She'd be thrilled to hear that theres actually some kids her age or around her age that will be going.

Hi Everyone! According to my countdown clock only 292 more days to go! :yay:

DH and I spent some time yesterday researching what we want to do on St. Thomas. There will be 6 ships in port that day including us so we will have to tender in and the real popular places sound like they will be very busy. We just can't decide what would be best to do yet.

I think we have definitely decided on doing Orient Beach on St. Maarten. It looks so beautiful that we will just have to stay near the end without as much nudity. We just need to decide if we want to sign up for DCL's excursion or if we want to just grab a taxi and do it on our own. I am sure grabbing a taxi will be cheaper so that is mostly likely what we will do.

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekends. We have had heavy rains here overnight and it is going to start turning to snow later today. The are only calling for around 1 inch so not a big deal.

How do you find out how many cruise ships are going to be in port and which ones will have to tender in?

There is a cruise calendar site. I don't have the site bookmarked but I can try to find it again. It shows which ships will be in port. My understanding is that 5 ships can dock in St. Thomas on any given day and since DCL is only there once every two weeks if then if a ship has to tender it is DCL.

The website is www.cruisecal.com

I actually wonder if it has changed because now it shows just 5 ships that day. I know it did show 6 a few weeks ago. The other ships are:

Carnival Triumph 7:00 - 6:00
Holland America Eurodam 8:00 - 5:00
RCL Mariner of the Seas 9:00 - 8:00
Holland America Noordam 8:00 - 5:00
DCL Magic 8:00 - 4:30

I just checked St. Maarten as well and it used to say we were the only ship in port but now there are two. I guess that cruise calendar site does change some from week to week.

DCL Magic 8:00 - 7:00
RCL Liberty of the Seas 9:00 - 5:00

Hi all! Just wanted to come over here and let you know that we'll be joining the dec 6th 2008 cruise w/ you all. I went on the magic 7 nt eastern april 2007 and thought it would be a great early xmas present for my kids. We will definately be on this cruise but have not booked yet (have till 2/25) because we wanted to get a few price quotes. Last time we sailed w/ dis we had a catagory 10 on deck 7. The room was fine standard only time we were there was to sleep and shower so I really rather have the xtra cash to buy/shop and do excursions. we are cking w/ small world travel for quotes and already have a quote from dreams unlimited we are also awaiting quotes from our regular travel agent. WI'd like to know who you all used to make reservations w/. I dont know who gives the best deals. another question....is lower decks less likely to cause sea sickness? None of us had it before, but i still get nervous about it. last dis cruise we were out in the day came to room bout 4ish napped a hr or so w/ the kids and then we were able to stay up late and enjoy. How is the ship during the holiday time? How about the temps...is it cool? Hope to have a great group of ppl there :)
here's our group: Erik (40) Me/Linda (42) Gianna (9 then) Kayla (8 then)

Welcome Linda! :cool1:

Actually I've been up down and through the ship a million times when we last went on and never once got sea sick. It really depends on you. I've never really been a sea sick kind of person.

I haven't been on the ship around that time. So I wouldn't really know. It'll be fun.

Hi Linda! :)

I am booked with Mouse Fan Travel right now. Unfortunately DCL does not really discount so the prices from travel agents will be comparable. The only difference is usually the amount of on board credit you can get and just deciding who you would prefer to work with.

The ship is all decorated for the holidays and looks extra special - kind of like WDW just on a much smaller scale. The weather for our double dip was nice in early December '06. A bit cool in PC but much warmer after that although it was overcast much of the time. I am hoping for low 80s or so and sunny this year.

I do get seasick and they say that the lower decks and more midship are better. Our first cruise we were in 2614 Deck 2 near the aft elevators and I was not too bad, our second cruise was Deck 5 all the way forward and it was terrible for me so we booked 2614 again for this cruise and I hope I will be fine again this time.

Becka....the room i must decide on by the 25th is on deck 7 (which i was fine w/ prior) but on the back of ship room 7001. its very last room on back. I have no clue if that is rough sailing in the back of a boat. This is only my daughters and my 2nd cruise. we didnt have ANY ill feeling 1st cruise but i still get paranoid. Know anything about rear of boat sailing? So far I am thinking of going w/ dreams unlimited...this was theiroffer (rm 7001) small world travel (agents) offers/rooms/price wasnt as good. I got to the 25th, thats why i'm reaching out to all you disney cruise veterans :) all your help is appreciated

Actually if you have 7001 that is all the way forward not aft based on the deck plans. If you didn't feel movement before you will probably be ok but I would bring the bonine just in case or you can get it for free outside the medical clinic. I have felt sick every time I have been on a boat so I know I have issues.

I went to the DCL website and room 2611 is a Cat 10 just across the hall from where we are and it is available. It is near the aft elevators but like I said we loved the location and I didn't feel much movement there at all.

Hi all:wave2: ,
I just sent my deposit over to dreams unlimited. cat 10 deck 7 room 7001. I'm very happy:cheer2: !! I originally asked for a quote for cruise w/ air and transfers but i ended up not taking those things $1,800+ for airfare from ny/nj to fla:faint: ?? Thats crazy, I'll look on my own for air lol. Here's a cpl of questions for you all...
How many of you took the insurance for your trip??
How many of you are doing the transfers ($69.00 each) through Disney?
If you are not doing transfers, how are you getting to Port?
There are 4 of us in my group at $69. a transfer thats $280. You can get a town car for 180/190. Any of you have a better deal? I'd much rather save $100.00 here and use it for something better. I took the transfer last time this time I learned :) I have to start writing down all the lil things to bring on the boat (i know it's a bit away, but it adds to the excitment) ie: markers, tee shirts, pillow cases candy so on. I know someone from our group will be making a tips and to bring list for us all to add to. I'm so excited guyssssssss:goodvibes

Linda

Thank you Becka for the info. I just took the deck 7 that was offered to me because thats the deck we were on in april...I wanna play it say, we were all fine (no seasickness thank God) that cruise :) Thankkk youuuuuu

Linda

Disney Air is really high. I guess there are certain situations when it is not higher than what you can book on your own but I think you are usually much better off with booking your own plus this way you can fly in the day before and have a much reduced chance of literally missing the boat.

I don't get my insurance through DCL. I always book on our own with insuremytrip.com. The rates are better and I can get my entire trip covered including the trip to and from Florida and the pre-cruise hotel stay, etc.. More coverage for less money seems like a no-brainer to me.

We (unless we find really cheap airfare) will be driving to the port so we don't have to worry about transportation. Most people agree that using a towncar service is the most economical way to go if you don't have your own car. Then again having DCL deal with your luggage and getting to ride on those really cool DCL busses may be worth it to some.

Hey all,
Sorry I've been slackin' on the website. I have been trying to figure out the best way to secure the site so that not everyone has access to it. I signed up for a Google Group which allows you to share files and create web pages but I haven't explored it enough to know if it's what we need.

I guess the easiest thing to do would be to start gathering your email addresses so I can send out invites to the site when I do get it set up.... If you are interested, please PM me your email address and I hope to get it done this coming weekend.
Thanks!
Joy
