12/5/09 -- DUMMY -- The Cruise Your Heart Desires Most ; )

You should go...33 days isn't bad! I just picked up our cruise docs for Oct 3rd! (I have no idea what I was thinking when I booked it last year) It's only a 3 day so that isn't bad but the thought of packing a suitcase again makes me a little sick to my stomach!

Well...

... May I thank you for the encouragement. I do recall your mentioning sailng again too. It almost seemed so quick - and believe it or not we are semi-packed from the trip still. Some things remain semi-packed.

At any rate, I'm just waiting on Alicia's opinion now... and I know if no one else goes but my father and I .... then I'll be happy too. I was looking forward to sailing with my Dad anyways and it would give me a lot of time with my step mother and father.

I gotta run now...

Cheers!

I was looking at the NCL sales today. They have 3 night Bahama cruise for $99 in October. Of course it ends up being more like $200 after the taxes and fees. And of particular interest is the 11 night Mexican Riviera out of San Francisco (no airfare for me) for $599.

But it's all wishing and dreaming. I can't go anywhere right now. Since I don't have a specific date of my next trip, I'm constantly looking to see what deals are out there.

Yeah...

... every now and then I get in the same mood Monica... it's the wandering nomad blood in me from somewhere from 700+ years into the past (maybe) when Genghis Kahn conquered much of the world. Well... actually ... my family was from Southern China and not the Steppes of Mongolia - as far as I know so maybe ... in my past my ancestors were pirates in the South China seas!

If Linda and I win the lottery you will be! ;)

Dh bought Lottery tickets for tonights lotto.....maybe he should check the numbers....... :)

Hey Tom! Where'd you get the great picture of Paul, Chris, and Lori?

:rotfl: :rotfl: 10ds (Elvis) said that Paul looked like to nice a guy to be that charcter!! :) I told him that he was! :thumbsup2

DH wants to know if anyone is serious about the Aruba trip....He is now interested.

He also now wants to get to know y'all. I told him to post like the rest of us then. ;)

Aruba -- I also looked at a couple of *all inclusives* for that timeframe..... around $1400 - $1600 pp. I think that was 4 nts.

I would LOVE to go to the Baltic in 2010! I have wanted to go to the Panama Canal and Russia for years. Y'all (;) ) know how the PC thing worked out. Now I need to go to Russia.
After all, somehow I had over $2,000 left over from the PC cruise. Not sure how that happened. I think it was my spa budget but after ending up in severe pain (note to self- NEVER get a massage from a beefy guy- always chose the wimpiest girl) I decided not to give the spa any more of my $$$. My Dad also paid for stuff I was budgeting for. Gotta love Dad's.
I think this cruise would be w/out my parents since they are going extensively through the rumored DCL cruise on their world cruise they start in January.

I would definitely want to cruise w/ you guys!!!! Maybe by then the girls will be old enough that Bill and I could do more night time festivities
.

Orianasunset.jpg

Your parents are doing an AROUND THE WORLD CRUISE!?! That sounds sooooo cool! I would LOVE to do something like that. However, the only thing we might remotely examine is the less costly ones like HAL or Princess voyages. The Seabourn, Crystal or Regent voyages all run about $60,000 + pp for SUITES for 121 to 106 day voyages. A good value - no doubt. But HAL and Princess run $ $41,700 to $22,800 for verandah cabins (my 1st choice for such a voyage)... covering similar lengths of voyage. THe DIFFERENCE in cost between the "Luxury" ships and say a $22,800Princess ship is $37,000 pp that could be used for a lot of shore excursions and ship board expenses. Or put another way... the luxury ship round the world voyages will certainly run us near $100,000 per person after shore excursions and ship board expenses are tallied.

An EXCITING TOAL without any question when taken on ANY ship - even a working freightor if it were an option! Which I'm sure it might be.

EU02-02119-w600.jpg

This coming January 5th, 2009 the Rotterdam IV embarks from LA. It's 131 (117?*)days from LA to NYC. It seems a window cabin is $25,510 pp and a $41,709 pp for verandah. Gee... that sounds soooooo appealing. Ya figure... with a verandah it's only $318.38 per person per day for 4.25 MONTHS of genuine TOAL adventure! Get this... I count 65 (SIXTY-FIVE) sea days on this 131 (117?*) day tour! That naturally implies there are 66 (or 52?*) port calls! Now something like THAT is WORTH .. W-H-A-T-E-V-E-R it costs! Whew!

* I am uncertain as to if this is a 117 or 131 day voyage?

Holland America's Rotterdam was built expressly for world cruises, and in 2009 the ship embarks on its fifth circumnavigation. And, 2009 marks another significant milestone for Holland America: 50 years of "Grand World Cruising."

The Rotterdam's 2009 world cruise itinerary has been designed by Capt. Simon Douwes to feature the best of the best. It mixes classic, well-known cities with calls at unspoiled, lesser-known ports, offering guests unsurpassed opportunities to explore the world. Many ports feature extended stays.

The itinerary incorporates extensive research from previous grand voyages as well as the comments and suggestions of past world cruise guests. It encompasses 39 intriguing ports in 27 countries across five continents. The Rotterdam will cover more than 35,100 nautical miles as it sails through the Pacific Ocean to the Hawaiian Islands and then on to the South Pacific, Australia, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Cartagena, Colombia; Enter Panama Canal Cristobal; Exit Panama Canal Balboa; Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; Huatulco, Mexico; Acapulco, Mexico; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Los Angeles, California; Hilo, Hawaii; Honolulu, Oahu, United States; Funafuti, Tuvalu; Port Vila (Vanuatu); Noumea, New Caledonia; Ile De Pins, New Caledonia; Sydney, Australia; Melbourne, Australia; Adelaide, Australia; Perth (Fremantle), Australia; Lembar, Lombok, Indonesia; Slawi Bay, Komodo, Indonesia; Semarang, Indonesia; Crossing the Equator; Hong Kong, China; Shanghai, China; Nha Trang, Vietnam; Kemaman, Malaysia; Singapore; Phuket, Thailand; Cochin, India; Mumbai (Bombay), India; Dubai, U.A.E.; Muscat, Oman; Victoria, Seychelles; Mombasa, Kenya; Nosy Be, Madagascar; Mamoudzou, Mayotte; Maputo, Mozambique; Richard's Bay, South Africa; Durban, South Africa; Cape Town, South Africa; Luderitz, Namibia; Walvis Bay, Namibia; St Helena, United Kingdom; Georgetown, Ascension Island; Devil's Island, French Guiana; Port of Spain, Trinidad; Bridgetown, Barbados; Gustavia, St. Barts; New York, New York

Oh my!

TahitianPrincess-01.jpg

Now look at THIS 117 day World cruise on Princesss' Tahitian Princess... window cabins are $21,534 pp and balcony cabins start at only $31,135 pp. That's $4,000 and $10,600 less PER PERSON comp[ared to HAL. The average daily cost per person in a window cabin is $184.05 pp! A verandah is only $266.11 per person! This voyage has 66 sea days ... and 51 port calls... beginning with Fort Lauderdale and heading WEST to conclude in Stockholm Sweeden. Whew!!!

Take the trip of a lifetime aboard Princess' Tahitian Princess and cruise for 117 days to the world's most fascinating cities and sights. See the famed Opera House in Sydney and immerse yourself in the exotic cultures of Asia and India. Later in your journey, you'll sail the Suez Canal, see the Acropolis in ancient Athens, and have an opportunity to take in splendid views of Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower. Next, sparkling Scandinavian capitals await -- Copenhagen, Helsinki and Stockholm -- and you'll also see some of Russia's greatest treasures during a port call in St. Petersburg.

There's never a dull moment aboard the Tahitian Princess, and you'll have plenty of time to experience everything the ship has to offer as you travel the world. Indulge in an innovative face or body treatment at the spa, watch a culinary demonstration, or browse though the library and art gallery. After dinner in the traditional restaurant or one of the alternative dining venues, take in an elaborate stage production or kick up your heels in the disco. Tahitian Princess carries 688 passengers and has a high percentage of balcony cabins.

ANd look at THIS...

Pacific%20Princess%20IIc.JPG

Princesss' PACIFIC Princess embarks on January 27th (2010) for a 107 day voyage that concludes at Romes' port of Civitavecchia. Window cabins are 23,179 while verandah cabins start at only $26,529 pp. So a verandah works out with an average daily cost PP of $247.93! There are 64 sea days resulting in only 43 port calls... an awefully big difference compared to the longer Tahitian Princess voyage which costs a little more.

Come aboard the Pacific Princess in 2010 for its unique voyage around the world. The Pacific Princess offers an intimate and personalized cruising experience with less than 700 guests on board. In addition to a wide variety of activities, the ship provides sophisticated accommodations with all the comforts of home.

Setting sail from Fort Lauderdale, FL, on January 27, 2010, guests on this cruise will visit 30 fascinating countries in 107 exhilarating days. Sail through the Panama Canal en route to Central America and Mexico, where you can take a train to Topolobampo's Copper Canyon. Continue on through Fiji on your way to Australia and New Zealand to visit Ayers Rock, Alice Springs and the stunning Great Barrier Reef.

Next on the agenda is the exotic Far East where the Pacific Princess will make stops in Japan, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and more. In China, take in historic sights such as Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall. As you sail on to India and the Middle East, view the breathtaking Taj Mahal and tour ancient Egypt's Luxor and Karnak. The last days of your memorable cruise will be spent in the Mediterranean. Experience beautiful Athens in Greece and Sorrento in southern Italy before the Pacific Princess makes its final stop in Civitavecchia, the port for Rome.

Oh BOY...

rp_main.jpg

Princesss' Royal Princess sails on january 20th 2009 from Ft Lauderdale to Rome in 107 days. However the cabins run 19,928 for a window ... and only $22,796 for a verandah! That works out to $213.05 pp per day for a verandah! Or ... $186.24 pp for a window cabin. There are 62 sea days and obviously 45 port days. However the port rotation sounds truly marvelous!

Spend 107 days with Princess sailing to legendary destinations all over the world. You'll transit the Panama Canal, explore the landscapes of South America and spend time in the romantic islands of French Polynesia. After visits to New Zealand and Australia, travel to Asia and India for up-close looks at unique cultures. Round out your trip amid the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean. After experiencing such a wide range of destinations, you'll have lasting memories of unforgettable adventures.

The 688-passenger Royal Princess boasts an intimate atmosphere and a high level of personalized service. Scheduled entertainment and activities offer day-to-night diversions. Take a dip in the swimming pool, enjoy pampering treatments in the Lotus Spa, or take a yoga class. During the evening, try your luck in the casino or dance in the night club. You will have plenty of time to experience everything the ship has to offer. Or, simply relax in your stateroom: Royal Princess offers a high percentage of cabins with balconies so you can leisurely take in the world around you.

DCL4ShipsSmaller.jpg

I might add I know of other cruise lines doing world cruises - like Cunard with thier 3 "classes" of dining rooms divided by what/where you book your cabin... and I didn't mention/detail all of them as this was not really needed on a Disney thread. However... maybe the Disney Cruise execs are already planning to roll out a TRULY once in our lifetimes chance to sail with Disney around the world? Imagine that eh? This would go a long way tpwards silencing pundits like myself who gripe over the lack of port rotation variety.

I keep loooking at all the photos dreaming I was back on the ship with all of you.:cloud9: This is the first time in years I have no destinaltion planned for the next year(2009). After the beating up of the stock market..........I might not be able to go anywhere.:sad2:

Hi everyone!

I hope I'm allowed to jump in here..we also booked the dummy cruise...we weren't going to since I have no idea when we get to cruise again with DCL...but Laura and Cheryl talked us into it :)

Tina...love your sig line with Billy! :rotfl2: The other night I was watching TV and there was some clip about Ronn Lucas and all I could think about was "I want Tinaaaa!" :rotfl:

I will have to add the logo to my sig line. We were supposed to go to Alaska in 2010 but DH wants to see what they announce in October...

Have a great day!

I am happy for you!!:woohoo: I could not force myself to look at another suitcase for at least 6 months.

Stephanie was the first person we spoke to on the ship for the 10 Night Southern as I recognised her from the photo on the disboards.:)

If you are phoning the UK, any time before 3:30 in the afternoon would be good as I believe you are 6 hours behind us here in the UK. This allows conversation time.

I didn't talk to my mother-in-law for six years but we speak now.:rolleyes1

David

Lucky you on the MIL.:headache: We still do not speak to mine and hope it continues forever.

I will talk to Arlene. I have never even dialed long distance overseas.

I've just noticed; in that photo Alex is wearing his "I've pulled a princess" t-shirt.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Whilst you were all meeting up with Helen, Alex and Bethan (Cheryl and John also came out the same exit as you), I was sitting outside the other exit with all the cases as the porters hadn't started taking the next cruise cases at that point. Peter and Jack with their families came out the other exit though.:thumbsup2

David

David

I am so jealous Stephanie got a picture of your family. DCL screwed up our transfers(actually it was United but I did get $200 in vouchers again). I had to hurry because we did not have boarding passes and knew the line would be long at Orlando Airport. It was so nice to see how big both children have grown and to give Helen a big Hug. Promise no cancelling again if we all end up on the same cruise next time.:headache:

Talk about strict security in Orlando...they had to break off a one inch knife blade that came attached to John's little cork screw.:sad2: We had no problem in Chicago with it. :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Much to my embaressment, Helen had a knife / corkscrew confiscated at MCO as well:rolleyes: I was annoyed that she had left it in her hand-luggage but it is for the best.

I was wondering what happened! I only started posting on this thread a day! :rotfl:

It would be the thought of UNpacking a suitcase that would make me ill!

Anything to do with airlines doesn't not thrill me in the least at this moment. If I could just walk onto the ship - I'd be so there. Arlene - you are so lucky to be close to DCL.

See...........I have been warning Stphanie talks a lot!!!:lmao: :lmao:

Funny you should mention that! We had trouble with our rolls of quarters we brought to do the wash, both leaving Boston & also Orlando. In Boston they just asked what they were, but in Orlando they pullled Mike aside & the lady was not nice at all! She asked Mike what was in the carry-on & he very politely said just a couple of rolls of quarters & she snapped, "Well we can't tell what this stuff is!" Okay? :confused3 We also had a couple of our checked bags searched thanks to a lovely memo from the TSA. One of them was my bag filled with all the FE gifts. Somehow I'm not surprised! ;)

We would love to return to Aruba. What were the dates being looked at?

Orianasunset.jpg

Your parents are doing an AROUND THE WORLD CRUISE!?! .

LOL.....the ticking of your mind fascinates me!! And the visuals you give us are the best!

Okay? :confused3 We also had a couple of our checked bags searched thanks to a lovely memo from the TSA. One of them was my bag filled with all the FE gifts. Somehow I'm not surprised! ;)

We had lovely TSA memo's too. And whats funny was one of them was in our FE & door magnet luggage. To tell you the truth...I would have no idea if anything was missing.
I realized a week after we got home that I could not find my watch and a bracelet. Then discovered I had not seen my entire jewelry bag since coming home. So we took all the luggage back down from the rafters, unbagged them and sure enough....wrapped all safe and sound in my quilted hanging organizer was my jewelry bag with my necklaces, bracelts and watches! LOL That was a relief.
Also, I really noticed our luggage got trounced during this trip...way more then normal. My beloved Pooh bear luggage had large pieces of plastic on the inside edges that was shattered, 1 handle strap broken off of my daughters new luggage, 1 front zippered pocket completely torn off on another and 1 pull handle broken.

After Tom (CaptainCrash) used the posting information for the wrong thread, in a solo tribute to him I decided to look-up an image of an insane or mad Captain. Instead I came across the following web-site............

Yes, tomorrow the 19th of September is the International Talk Like A Pirate Day so as the site says, Try it out. Let go, have a beer, burp in public. Say "Aarrr!!" pirate:
