Holland America's Rotterdam was built expressly for world cruises, and in 2009 the ship embarks on its fifth circumnavigation. And, 2009 marks another significant milestone for Holland America: 50 years of "Grand World Cruising."
The Rotterdam's 2009 world cruise itinerary has been designed by Capt. Simon Douwes to feature the best of the best. It mixes classic, well-known cities with calls at unspoiled, lesser-known ports, offering guests unsurpassed opportunities to explore the world. Many ports feature extended stays.
The itinerary incorporates extensive research from previous grand voyages as well as the comments and suggestions of past world cruise guests. It encompasses 39 intriguing ports in 27 countries across five continents. The Rotterdam will cover more than 35,100 nautical miles as it sails through the Pacific Ocean to the Hawaiian Islands and then on to the South Pacific, Australia, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.
