12/30 & 12/31 2019 Magic Kingdom Dessert Party Watch Thread - NOW BOOKABLE!!

Is anyone permitted on the Poly Beach/GF/Contemp. on 12/31 or just those staying at the resort? TIA

The main beach in front of the Poly Lava Pool is reserved for Poly guests with a section within that area also reserved for CL guests.

They are using the Poly beach between Poly and GF for a private event for 7/3 this year, wouldn’t surprise me if you see something similar for 12/30 or 12/31.

Other places are pretty open but things can always change year to year. Poly seems to slightly tweak things the last two years I’ve been there.

Attaching a view of the Fantasy in the Sky fireworks from the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party (early show) on 12/31/2017. Any of the tables in the dessert party would have had a similar view. There were no "bad tables". MK TT Dessert Party 12.31.17.jpg

Thank you for the detailed descriptions of 12/30 and 12/31 in MK! We, too, are veteran Disney goers but have never been during Christmas week. I’ve heard the horror stories but we have always wanted to “try” NYE in Disney.
We are definitely planning to hit MK on 12/30 vs. 12/31 but will also have our 2 yr. old DGS with us.
Are the crowds on 12/30 still a bit overwhelming for a family with a toddler & stroller? Our thought was to do the early dessert party to help have a bit tamer environment.
For those who have gone on 12/30, does this sound like the best option for our situation? The last thing I want for our DGS’s first visit is for him to be frightened. He’s not typically scared of much, but I guess I am hopeful the party helps control the atmosphere. There will be 6 adults and the 2 yr. old. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Also, thoughts on a park for actual NYE would be helpful. (The little one will not be with us for midnight fireworks.)

Thanks tons!
To answer your specific question - yes, on 12/30 the crowds are still overwhelming for a family with a 2 yr old and a stroller. I've taken my adult nieces and their children (ages 6-3) with me on trips for MNSSHP and the Christmas Party. I have never offered to take them on an NYE trip, because in my opinion, it's too crowded, and I'd be terrified of losing the kids. That said, in my trips the past 2 years I saw lots of people with strollers. In every case they looked more than a little bit frustrated/harried. The "fun/party" atmosphere I mentioned no doubt led to some of the frustration for the folks with strollers. In Tomorrowland, Frontierland, and in front of the castle are giant LOUD dance parties complete with flashing lights, etc. It's like being in an under-21 family-friendly nightclub. At the Hub in front of the castle is a HUGE sea of people dancing to the DJ. Volume is such that music can clearly be heard all the way down main street. People on main street are dancing to that DJ as well, so walkers/strollers stick to the sidewalks. In Frontierland, the dance party is right in front of Country Bears and the Riverboat. It's another huge crowd that takes up the entire street. You can bypass it by walking on the sidewalk by the Riverboat (which is packed with people doing the same thing). In Frontierland, the volume is so loud you can clearly hear the dance party music from way over by Splash and Big Thunder Mountain. Music includes old-school dance standards such as the Macarena, Thriller, Kung Fu Fighting, YMCA, Don't Stop Believing, plus a ton of "new" dance music. My teens LOVED the dance parties. 2 year olds might find them noisy/scary (or who knows, they might find them fun). For the fireworks - if I had a 2 year old, I would definitely do a Dessert party, preferably the Tomorrowland Terrace party, where you could let your kid out of the stroller, sit in a chair, and run around a bit. I'm sure Plaza Garden would be fine too. Attached here are a couple of stills from a video I took of the Frontierland dance party. This was taken around 7pm on 12/30/2018 (so the night was young. It gets crazier as it goes on.) Sorry for the poor quality. I wish I could upload a video, but the file is too large. For 12/31, if I were you I would not even attempt the MK. I have not been to other parks on 12/31, so I can't speak to them (but after my one in-park NYE experience, I'm not going to attempt a park on 12/31 ever again, lol!)MK Dance Party 2.JPGMK Dance Party 1.JPG

Thanks for starting this thread. To clarify, the two fireworks shows, 6:30 and 11:50 ones are the same with all the extra fireworks? I thought maybe the earlier show might be the regular fireworks show and the later one is the bigger one. I just want to clarfy so I can plan accordingly.

Another question, how long does the fireworks show last? I am thinking if I end up not doing a dessert party , and I want to schedule a dinner in MK I was wondering what time to plan my evening meal. If I go to the earlier fireworks show at 6:30 (time it has been in years' past) would I be okay scheduling my evening meal around 8 pm?

For 2017 and 2018, both shows were the same “Fantasy in the Sky” show. The only small difference is that the 11:50pm show is the “360 degree” version, which means they also shoot off fireworks from an island launch point in the middle of the Seven Seas Lagoon. This is more of a benefit for folks at the MK resorts, not necessarily for folks in the MK.

Hope that helps.

If I had a gripe about the Fantasy in the Sky show, it’s that it’s relatively short - around 11 mins. Compared to HEA which is around 18 mins, this one tends to leave me wishing there were another segment or two.

But to answer your question - 11 mins. An 8pm dinner would be just fine.

Thanks GADisneyDad14! I appreciate the information. Right now, I think I might plan to go to the earlier show and then watch the second one from outside the park. I have the Plaza Restuarant scheduled for 8:10. So, I think I will leave it alone. I really appreciate the help.

Sounds like a good plan. Not sure if this means much to you, but the Frozen Holiday Wish show (a pretty cool little segment where Elsa "freezes" the castle) happens at 6pm preceding the 6:30 show of Fantasy in the Sky. A slight logistical consideration - if you go to the Hub/Main Street area before 6pm and if you have dinner at the Plaza at 8pm, you might be spending the majority of your night there in the Hub (which some people do, I'm sure). That's a fun area, but it's pretty crowded. Where Main Street meets the Hub is a pretty monstrous human traffic jam after the fireworks. It might be hard to leave there at 6:45 when the fireworks end and get anywhere to actually do something and still make it back thru that crowd to get to the Plaza by 8 (you could maybe do 1 fastpass ride in Tomorrowland?). You might consider getting out of the fray of the Hub after the fireworks and eating in Adventureland or Frontierland, which are fun areas with a lot of good rides... just a thought.

We are hoping to do the early party on the 30th, but also NOT planning to be in the park all day prior to it. If the party begins at 5:00 will Main Street already be jammed packed with people as we try to make our way to the party. Or will they automatically open an alternative “back route” to keep crowds flowing?
What time do you suggest we try to arrive?
And should we even consider driving?
Same with leaving. We plan to leave right after the show. Is it better to try to take buses or drive?
We would also be able to take the monorail back to Epcot since we are staying at BCV, so that is an option, too.

Thank you for your help!

Thank you for your insight. :thanks: I really appreciate getting feedback on my ideas from those of you who have experienced the madness :crowded: the New Year's holiday crowds at MK. :santa: I had made the ADR for the Plaza since I am worried about the counter service options being crazy long lines and no tables on the 30th. So, I am not sure what to do. I figure with all the crowds after the 6:30 fireworks show and before our 8 pm dinner reservation, we will probably spend the time fighting with the crowds along Main Street and maybe wander around the stores a bit. I would love to see some attractions instead but it may not be feasible. I scheduled a dinner for us since I figured it would be a good way to sit and rest from the crowds and pass time until the later fireworks show. After dinner we will try to hit Adventureland for a bit and then head out and watch the fireworks from just outside MK or maybe ride the monorail over to the GF and watch the show from there. Not sure. :confused3

How is the view for Fantasy in the Sky from TT?
We did this in 2017. Seated right on the rail, literally under Tinks wire! Awesome view of fireworks as snow (that year, don’t know if it’s changing) didn’t rely as much on projections in the castle

ETA: we did the party on the 30th, late viewing. No way in heck would I attempt the 31st. Also that year it was cold, which may have helped crowds some but we found lots of places where there breaks in crowds after first fireworks showing.

@sdk1231 has done an excellent job answering this. Listen to this wisdom lol! It was just my hubs and I for that trip (well technically we were there to drive our DCP kid home a few days later) and I remember feeling sorry for the families with smaller kids or kids in stroller and first timers (seemed to have a ton of first time buttons around!). It’s packed.

if you are able to get back down Main Street when gobs are staking out their spot.
Twice we’ve done Epcot for NYE with my older teens. We love it! We’re actually leaving to go back home on the 30th this year. Sad we won’t be around for NYE.
we loved Epcot on NYE too! Hubs still tells everyone how that was the best fireworks show ever! Maybe I can talk him into another NYE trip someday  But it’s another park I would never ever take younger kids to on NYE nights! Older kids would have a blast though.

Hmm- I had been debating whether to do early or late dessert party, but since we are staying at the CR maybe I will do early and then watch the later ones from the resort. Is there a good spot to watch from CR (we are staying garden view)? This is our first time staying at CR.

there's an observation deck on the right of the CR (nearest the park side) on the 4th floor that's open to the public (I've not used it myself so I presume it'll be crowded). There's also the front "park" area and I'm sure some people watch them from the back pool area. You'll hear the music fine as it's broadcast from speakers in the lagoon too.
