12/24/08 Christmas Cruise on the Wonder

Congratulations, Annette! Does this make you a grandma? :duck: What a very young grandma. :thumbsup2

Thanks for well wishes!:cool1:

LGMPH- Lime Green Mickey Paint Head (an informal representation of the DIS from Home Depot)
CRT: Cinderella Royal Table (I promised no rope drops this trip so we are doing CRT lunch)

I could never do your job Courtney. I have a tremendous amount of respect for people in the health care field. You really have to be cut from the right cloth to do the job!

On that note I have a job interview with the CBE on Monday morning (Calgary Board of Education) wish me luck! I got my tat sketch tonight. OMG I LOVE it! I can hardly wait!

How fortunate that we ended up with such a diverse wonderful bunch of people on this cruise thread!:grouphug:

Why lime green? And if Home Depot did it, I won't tell DH. He works for Lowe's.

And thanks for the job statement. I feel the same way for people in other fields. There is definitely something for everyone. I almost couldn't imagine doing anything else.

Good luck with your interview!! I know you will do well. Good to know you have a decent Spring Break. We used to have 2 weeks here, just in our school district. But new state laws about when we can start changed that. Ours is mid-March.

I think we are very fortunate that we have such a diverse group AND we all get along!!! I feel like I know you guys so well already. :grouphug:

Heck if I know. Somehow the colour lime green was adopted for the board and then Disney came out with a paint collection. The paint chips are shaped like Mickey Heads and they happened to have a lime green one at HD and that's all I know!:goodvibes

My goodness we had a couiple night owls last night. Gee, if I knew you ladies liked to stay up late and chat, I'd have joined you. I'm usually up late.

Ok, so you know how I'm working hard on losing weight before Dec. Well, this morning I was cleaning out my closet, and getting rid of everything that is too big. Way in the back corner I found my Disney Cruise Line t shirt from 2000! I wonder what my chances of being able to wear it in Dec would be? :santa: 1 Just let me say, I hope the quality is still the same as it was back then. This shirt is just as bright as it was when I bought it. And it's bright red, with yellow and blue lettering. Very nautical:thumbsup2

I got an interesting email from the DFW airport Hyatt this morning. It says our reservation has been changed. I read over it,and the only thing I can see is some fine print stating that "prices are subject to current pricing, which may be different than previously confirmed rates":confused3 Courtney, has your area increased the hotle/motel tax recently? The email states 12% additional tax and service charges. I always thought you were locked into whatever the price was when you booked.:confused3 Guess it's just one more thing that gets passed down to the consumer. :offtopic: Like our car insurance rates. Just Dale and I on the policy, 30 years of driving with no tickets, or at fault accidents. No claims in at least 10 years, and our rate consistently goes up? Same thing with our oldest daughters car insurance. No accidents, her husband turned 25 last month and one would think the rate would go down. Nope. It increased by $75:furious: I called to complain. I'm so sick of hearing about how the economy stinks, and how they had to re rate based on how much it costs to repair cars now. Yada yada yada. I heard the same thing 6 months ago when they went up then too:furious: Why are the people with good driving records having to pay to fix cars? They didn't have to pay to fix any of ours. At this rate, we aren't going to be able to afford to add the twins to our policy in Nov. The sad part, is it isn't just our insurance company. It's all of them. I understand their resoning. I guess, but it seams like everyone has someone to pass the crap down to. Except the consumer, who is stuck because they have no one to pass it on to,and are slammed with the same story from every company they have to do business with. Ok. Rant over. Didn't mean to unload. I'm just frustrated this morning.

I'm stalling. I have to head out to the pool, and scoop the bees out of the bottom. Stupid bees, don't they know they can't swim:confused3 :rotfl2: I had to put some cleaner in the pump and filiter last night. Have to finish up the cleaning of that this morning, then spray some stuff over the top of the pool, let it settle and vacuum it up. Put in the new chemicals, and hope it fixes the problems. Oh yeah, then go buy a new pool cleaner. Why do they make these thngs, with no replacement parts:confused3 One itty bitty cog wore out,and I have to replace the whole cleaner which is only two years old.:furious:

Ok, it's back to work for me. Catch ya'll later. And I promise I'll be in a better mood.

Actually it is Brandi's husband and I that dress alike, not Brandi. I guess I didnt type that too clear.

Time to do my little organ donation speech... If you have signed your drivers license to donate (or any other form), please make sure your family knows. Unfortunately most states allow your family to override your wishes. Stupid if you ask me but that is the way it is... I personally believe in the European way that everyone is presumed to be a donor unless they opt out.

What other topics can I hit on... I am trying to get a specific tattoo artist lined up for my next one but he has a waiting list of about 4 months. Maybe I am in the wrong line of work... Of course finding out how much child care costs has got me thinking I should open up a day care, too. I could combine them: tattoos at night and childcare in the day:lmao:

I am down 9 pounds thanks to boot camp. I wanted to hit double digits for the month but I'll be cutting it close.

Ok, I gotta go do some work

just got an email from a friend. She and her husband go to St Martin every year. Just found out they go for 24 days. 24 days every year in St Martin. Maybe I need to open up that tattoo studio/day care facility.

We welcome all here at the DIS. Nobody raised an eyebrow. ;)

This is precisely why I do not work. With two kids in a quality daycare, I would make a profit of about $3 per hour, which is about $530 per month. Chump change. We just don't eat out as much and try to only carry one car payment at a time. Then again education/social work is not a terribly high paying profession to begin with.

Now your on to something!:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 That is precisely why I waited to go back to work until the youngest started grade 1 this fall!

Why in the world would the DCL build a family oriented ship with so many rooms that only sleep 3? How many people just have 1 kid? And I know the exception is people like Annette who have her kids in the room next door, but they can't be the majority, either.

I just checked to see if our cruise is sold out yet. If you are booking a room for four, the only thing left to book is a GTY 12, which is really peculiar since all us seasoned DISers know that Cat 12s only sleep 3.

If you are needing a room for 3, Cats 6,7,9,10,11 and 12 are all available.

But, here's the kicker. My youngest sleeps in a Pack n Play, so I don't even need a room with four beds, yet I am occupying one... taking it away from a family who needs it. The nice thing is that we get to leave the couch a couch and my son still gets his bunk bed. Still, I would gladly flip out the couch every night for an upgrade to a balcony. Are you listening, DCL Fairy?

How much do you pay for daycare down there? We pay $850-$1000 here.

Not sure what it is in the civilian world, but here on post at the Child Development Center, it would be $1100 for my two per month, so probably more outside the gate.

I'm in a much better mood now that I have most of the pool work done.

Andy, Congrats on the 9 lb loss:thumbsup2

I'm down a total of 38 lbs:cool1:

Adrianna, you are so right on about the rooms. There should be alot more that sleep four or five.

Daycare. It has been a real issue for Val. I have been a SAHM so long, I'm not sure where I would fit into the work force now.

Man day care is expensive. I remember when I used to babysit for $1.00 an hr. Maybe I was getting ripped off:lmao:

Well, got my pool work done. Only I'm so slow at running the vacuum, that I lost alot of water out of the pool:rotfl2: Now I have to wait till it gets full enough for the pump to work before I can put the chemicals in:lmao:

Adrianna, any word on when your DH will be home? Hope it's soon.

I'm gonna go cruise Disboards for awhile.:moped: Catch ya'll later.

Well I got my tattoo half done today. After 2 very long hours it was half completed. I am going back on July 10 to finish the other half. I feel like I have a really bad sunburn owwwwwwwwwwwwwwieeee:sick:

It looks unbelievable even half done!:thumbsup2

My hubby will be home tomorrow. Yay! I pick him up at the OKC airport around dinnertime. My son has this whole list of things that JUST he and daddy are going to do. Play battleship, go see WALL-E, go to Sonic, swimming. No moms or baby sisters allowed!

Congrats on your tat, Annette!

Adrianna

2 hours? Most of mine have been around 45 minutes, except #4 (covering up #2) which was about 3 hours (with a couple of 5-10 minute breaks). FYI - coverups hurt.

Mine is taking so long because it has a tremendous amount of detailing and shading work. Last night we did all the outlining, letters and some shading and filling. It is a good size but not huge by any tattoo means. I took the bandage off as soon as I got home and sprayed Bactine on it...ahhhhh much better this morn! The last one took 2 hours and the one before that was about 90 minutes:goodvibes I am done though. My pain tolerance has gone down a lot;)
