12/19/2009 - 12/26/2009 Magical Christmas Cruise! It's not that far Away?

Why don't we give it a few days for people to come up with different slogan ideas and then put them all out there for vote? We'll give everyone a certain period of time for voting or something...do you guys think that would be fair to everyone?

I know both Robyn and Barbara came up with ideas...did anyone else mention any? Those of you that came up with ideas, can you PM them to me? I'll put them at the bottom of the roll call so that we can access them easily...

Neither Jim nor I are teachers, but my mother-in-law (who will be in the cabin connecting to ours) is! :rotfl:

I like "Goofin' around the Holidays". I'm partial to putting "Magic" in to - like "Magical Holiday Cruise" or "DISers Celebrating Holiday Magic!" :) But honestly, I don't really care what we call it -I'm just ready to be on the ship!:thumbsup2

Ha ha Amanda, I agree, who cares what it's called, just as long as they call our families' names to board in 46 days!!!

(but I do think a name would be cool so we could all do door magnets to identify ourselves ;) )

Ok, so scratch that "just under". Now it's over 50%, so I guess we can say that most of the families on our thread have teachers in them ;)

I am not a teacher nor is anyone in my family. Well, I guess I have to say that loosely. I am a parent and as such, am a teacher in one way or another, huh? I had thrown out a slogan. Maybe it was missed.

I said: Crashing the Seas in 7 Days.

I'll have to look at some other threads and see what they came up with. Maybe it will help with some slogan ideas.

Just thought of an idea maybe we can build on.. Gathering the Magical Pixie Dust ...

I think that's a great idea Kimberly!

Good luck to all of you waiting for your Cat 12 cabin assignments! I think today is the day. The past few Magic sailings have gotten cabin assignments on the Wednesday that was 45 days from their sailing - which is today for us. When I got my pixie dust call, the DCL rep said I had until 2:00 today to make a decision . . . so maybe that means they'll post them this afternoon. Keep us posted on what you get.

We are not teachers but we are huge fans! I am actually the PTA president at a massive Elementary school so I have some major respect for teachers! I love Emily's fourth grade teacher. Today we are all attending her funeral for boring words! All of the borring words will be dead and can no longer haunt their writing! They all wore black! Too cute! A theme is a cute idea! I am trying to plan my door decoration as we speak. I want someting really special for Christmas!:santa:

I am crossing my fingers about the cabin assignments. I am so ready to know!!

All the suggestions so far are great! Teachers Magical Holiday at Castaway Cay. I was also trying to think of one that expresses our creative talents for FE's but hadn't yet.... I am almost finished with ours. Tonight it should be finished. It is one of a kind. It does express both Mark's and my personality I think.... I can't wait to hear your feedback when you all see it. It has been so much fun making it. Now that the semester is winding down I do not have as many papers to grade because most items are sent to me via technology. So grading is a snap and I have plenty of time to plan for our trip. I will put Mark to work on more ideas for slogans. That is his forte. Well it is time to teach irregular verbs to those college kids who forgot what they learned in high school.:dance3::cheer2:

Uggghhhhhh . . . I'm surprised! I've been checking all day waiting for one of you to post what you got. How frustrating!!!!!:headache:

i think some folks on the cruise before us just found out their cabin assignments in the past week, so maybe it will be a few more days...

Okay here is my honey's suggestions:
Veracifers Holiday Voyage
Teachers Taught Pirates Too!
Teachers Tell Tall Tales
Tall Ships & Teachers Cruise 2009
Jack Sparrow's Mother was a teacher.

He will keep them going I am sure until we tell him we have had enough. So feel free to do so at anytime, haha!

I did not get to finish our FE last night but it will be done tonight. It really has turned out to be a Mark and Barb creation. We love it! I can not believe how fast the time is going now. I showed my students our semseter calendar yesterday and eyes widened and mouths dropped as they realized the semester will be completed in a little over a month. Some are happy because they have stayed current with assignments and some have continued those high school habits into their first course in college which they are working at overcoming. Most will make it and a few will not. The few that don't will learn a valuable lesson in not procrastinating. Where is Bill? Your son will be okay. Hopefully he will get some good teachers who will dedicate their energy as many of us do at my college to teach these students the skills they need to succeed. After that it is all up to them to decide if they want what we have to offer. I am blessed most of my students love my energy at 7am and usually flourish in my classes. I love teaching the developmental courses. The courses for the students that didnt score high enough to take college courses because I get the opportunity to refocus their energy to teaching them how to think critically. We have a great time learning. The students seem to love what I do, they have nominated me for the teaching of excellence award again this year. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I do knowing that the students are acheiving their goals and are happy doing so makes me proud to be a teacher.:dance3::cheer2:

Ok, I feel like I have to shout from the rooftops about it, so excuse my off-topic post...

I have been terrified that I haven't been doing my job right. I don't know why, but I just have this intense anxiety about it. It doesn't help that I've been told at least twice that I'm the third teacher of the deaf in two years in this county.

My boss (the head of the special ed department in this county) came to observe me this morning. All I can say is I rocked. Sure, there were some slip ups, but they weren't major (for instance, struggles with cutting a lemon) and my boss said that I have some superb strengths that she likes to see. She does have some suggestions, as well, but overall I'm strong.

WOOHOO!

Congratulations Robyn! I remember the days of being a new teacher and going through periodic evaluations...it's totally normal to feel that kind of anxiety, even when you're doing an awesome job, which apparently you are!!! :thumbsup2

Barbara, I just added your ideas to the list on the roll call page! Thanks! :goodvibes

Why don't we keep taking new ideas for slogans until Sunday and then vote next week. Sound good?

Tina, can you tell me if this is the same info you have for the FE Exchange?

Total # Families participating:

17

Total # of adults:

35 (I did not count the 18 and 19 year olds as adults)

Total # of kids:

17

Breakdown of kids:

Children under 3 : One
Girls age 5-7 : Four
Girls age 8-9 : Three
Girls age 10-12 : Four
Boys age 10-12: Two
Girls age 13+ : Two (these are the almost 18 year old and 19 year old)
Boys age 13+ : One

Adults only

I'd also like to note that 6 families consist of only adults, in case that is important in assembling your FE gifts (for me, it is!)...

Personally, I'm trying to wrap my arms around how many people we have and what age / gender they are for my FE gifts, so I figured while I was working on this I'd confirm that Tina and I have the same info and also share this with anyone else it might help. :goodvibes

Hey Guys:
these are my suggestions:

All those for Mickey say Arrrrr!
Magic Holiday Cruise Dec. 19-26 2009

or

All in favor of Mickey say "Arrrrrgh"
Magic Holiday Cruise Dec. 19-26 2009

I tried to paste an image of Pirate Mickey below the slogan ,Milliepie has some great ones. Maybe she could do a custom one for us.
The one I liked was a happy looking Pirate Mickey. I'm using it for one of my magnets, but I can't seem to embed it.

Or each of us could use a favorite character:
All those for Goofy say Arrrrrr!
then use an image of Pirate Goofy underneath

(Actually, I'm not sure whether its "Arrrrrr" or "Arrrrrgh")

Hey guys...just checked and we got our cabin assignment. Two cat 12's...ugh, I was hoping for at least a couple cat 11's but that's okay. We are in side-by-side cabins which is going to be nice and the cabins we got get good reviews. I'm sure glad we booked 2 cabins for the extra space!
