Friends, we need all your good wishes and pixie dust - all you can spare . . .
I think I mentioned quite some time ago that I was in negotiations with our union, and I am the chief labor relations person for our company. NEVER have those negotiations in the 15 years that I have done them gone past October 1st. We are now in late November, and these negotiations are dragging on. I can thank Wal-Mart for that. These are tough negotiations, and we are facing major non-union competition from Wal-Mart, which pays lower wages and practically no benefits so that they can afford to give food away compared to union grocery stores.
Anyway, to get off my soapbox - unless these negotiations are sewn up, or postponed by 12/8 - we may not be on the cruise. Our owner today asked me if I bought
trip insurance! (I did not).
We have not said a word to Sophia about this, and if we get cancelled, she will be heartbroken, as will we. This is one of the two real vacations we try to take every year, and our family needs it. I am going to do everything in my power to be there at that sailaway, but for the first time, I am really worried that we have a chance of not making it.
I really hope to be joining you all in a few weeks - Oh, and BTW, no docs in Ohio.
John
