12/09/06 Geeks.... Lost, but not forgotten

So our thoughts are buy the QS even if only as pre-paying of the tab, and since we are DVC, we don't pay until check-in.

Pj
I have to call DVC I can't recall whether I put the dining plan on. We typically get the DP but I guess I need to look into the QS as well. I am really behind in knowing what it going on.

Carla, the QS plan doesn't start until January 11th, 2009. For now you have choice of the normal DP or the Dp w/ Wine, and possibly the Deluxe DP. This site has a great run-down on the plans, http://www.diningindisney.com/2008-disney-dining-plan-details-revealed/ Disney Pamphlet

Pj

I completely understand about wakes and funeral, seems like they are the only places I see my extended family as well, and one of my dad's brothers is almost his twin, except taller and it freaks me out as well.

The new Quick Service Dining Plan prices: Adults $29.99 per person per night; children 3-9 $8.99 per person per night.

Lisa, we are paying the $29.99 +taxes each per night for our after cruise nights. We can't skip any meals on the plan to make it work out, but then again they aren't TS and we can do them on the run. With two snack per day as well, I think we might be taking some treats home, lol.

Even with the DP being $39.99+taxes, we now know that even with the couple of meals we will do TS, we would end up not using some of the CS to avoid over eating, taking away any savings from the plan. So our thoughts are buy the QS even if only as pre-paying of the tab, and since we are DVC, we don't pay until check-in.

That's what I was thinking while being kept awake by a wandering 8 yo last night. :headache: Even with having to buy 3 adult plans this year at least we could get the chicken tenders on the adult menu for W instead of those greasy nuggets. I figure that a QS meal for the four of us will run around $50 Columbia Harbour House. and $30 for breakfast so that is 80 of the 98.96 a day for the four of us. Of course then you add on 8 snacks at $4 each and it comes to $112 but if we get an early lunch and later dinner it is over the $130 a day mark. We usualy get a couple mugs so that lowers the price per day a bit too. Aren't they around $12? I know that W loved picking out candy at Goofy's Shop at DTD on the last day. Anything $4 and under was a snack option so he got to pick out stuff for their stockings from the Goof himself. ;) He liked sharing the Magic with K that way and never told her where they came from. :) I am going to have to approach Mike about this. I know that we enjoyed eating at the differet resort food courts when we were not at the parks. I loved the Poly's pork sandwich!!! :) That runs us around $50 a pop if you include the desert, which we usually only do honestly when we have the DDP.

So now the question is if we check in on 2/7 and check out the morning of 2/14 do we have to get 7 days or 8 days of the DDP?

Here's a great link to a PDF of the 2009 Plan Brochure, Lisa.

http://www.mousemisers.com/docs/quickservice09.pdf

The credits go by your number of nights. So if you stay 7 nights then seven credits. (although you can use them from check-in on the first day till mid-night on the day of check-out)

Looks like kinda a good deal if you use it for lunches and dinners.

(we usually eat b-fest on the run anyway..)

I saw that one but just didn't remember if the actual days or nights counted. We will probably pack and take breakfast food with us...cereal bars, poptarts, bagels. We kept a cooler in the room one year we were there a week and had sandwich stuff too. Staying at the values there are microwaves and toasters so you can heat something up pretty easily. I remember fixing oatmeal in the morning and then the easy mac for K to eat since she was only 3 and didn't really eat very much to make it worth getting a kid's meal. Now that kid can eat more than me sometimes so that wouldn't work.

We have a wake and funeral to go to tomorrow. My mothers sister. I dislike wakes and funerals in general and would prefer not to go. Its that bittersweet thing of getting to see all the family together yet its generally overwhelming to me. One cousin looks exactly like my mother and it freaks me out so much I can't look at her in pictures and in person it's like a shock to the system to look at my mothers face but she's not there. It always makes me cry. Hard to explain. In any case I'm dreading it all.

Carla :grouphug: I will be thinking of you guys tomorrow. Hopefully you will find some happy memories to share when you are with your loved ones.

since she was only 3 and didn't really eat very much to make it worth getting a kid's meal.

Sounds like my 5 yo nephew. He makes a big production about what he wants to/doesn't want to eat and then takes maybe 3-4 bites.

I wish my DD had been like that.

BTW  's those geeks in need.

P.S. Since i am working part time at Michael's right now wanted to let you guys with little girls (or boys too) know that they have some great stocking stuffer items right now for $1@.

Lots of HSM2, Fairies, Princesses, Hanna MO, Spiderman, IronMan (now i personally wish they had Robert Downey Jr on them as i'd buy the whole lot), Hulk, and Mickey Mouse stuff. Even some POTC ones around.

~pencil cases, puzzles, tin boxes, zip cases, stationary kits, silly putty, yo yo's, etc...

They are giving out coupons now in the store for special sale on Sun night (4-8 pm) which will be 15% off your ENTIRE purchase (including sale).

However, if you buy anything (i mean anything) before this sunday, you will get a coupon from the register that gives you 20% off entire purchase for regular priced stuff that is good 11/23-11/26. (ie $1 stuff above)

Hi guys.

Not much going on here other than too busy to be here much - the life of the retail grocery business around Thanksgiving, along with challenges that my brother is having. He may have reconnective surgery soon - we will see. The "bag" has been a nightmare.

Glad you found your car PJ.

Glad you are traveling and having fun Angie and Dennis.

Carla, hope it all went OK at the Wake - believe me I know what you mean, but it was a comfort to me recently having family around.

Lisa have fun at WDW!

Brack, you make us all jealous for your travels, and even more jealous for your window!

Joy, how is the photo business going?

Did I miss anyone? Probably?

:wave2: Caroline and Kristina!

John, Amy and Sophia :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Hope that work isn't too much of a pain for you. I know that this will be your first time not going to WDW in December in a long time too...I am already feeling the withdrawals even though we have a February trip planned. What am I going to do with an extra 10 days to get ready for Christmas this year?!?!? ;) I admit it will be nice not to rush through things and I might even bake some Christmas cookies for a change...though none of us really need them :sad2: Part of me is very anxious for Christmas to arrive because K will be getting her first AG doll!!!! :yay: I can't wait to see her face and she will get the matching blue PJs to wear for Christmas eve then open the doll's pjs as the very last gift for her under the tree...with a note inside the box telling her where to find her doll. :cutie: With all of the sales on the site lately it is hard to demonstrate restraint. LOL! I have even gone through Ebay trying to find some deals for more outfits for her and thinking of reasons to get them. Of course now she will have something to save her allowance up for other than DS games.

Angie

I am using wordpress.com to do a blog about the lead up to the TA cruise. This is my first time and it has been easy so far, hardest part was making my custom title. Click on the name tag in my signature my journalling is on the Home page link under the title. It took me about 30 minutes to set it up and write my first post.

Pj

PJ, I THINK I posted a comment on your Blog. We will try to get one set up and going. Would we then send and email to family and friends letting them know where to find it? (be patient with me here, I am old!!)

Did it block your view of the 'other' window?:confused3

:rotfl2: :lmao:

:rotfl2: :lmao: Caroline, you can always make us laugh!

We are doing the Quick Service DP for the Feb trip, since we found that even the normal DP was too much time spent eating for us. We are doing a couple of TS meals, but haven't actually booked anything yet, lol, see no spreadsheet this trip. We are thinking maybe a first trip to Sci-Fi Diner, and I really want to head to Fort Wilderness for the Trail's End Tavern dinner.

The fort wilderness campfire/movie,
"Go to Fort Wilderness for the campfire/sing-along, nightly at 7pm behind the Meadow Trading Post. Movie begins approximately 7:40pm. A Disney classic movie follows the sing-along. Chip and Dale usually make an appearance. The Fort Wilderness staff will provide a campfire; bring your marshmallows, hot dogs and sticks if you have them. If not, marshmallows and sticks are available for purchase at $2 for 2 sticks and plenty of marshmallows; $5 for a s'more kit. The movie shown is different each night of the week. In the event of inclement weather, a "Porch Jam" sing-a-long will take place at the Ol' Meadow Swimmin' Hole. Movie & Sing-a-Long free of charge. Note: All movies & characters are outside! Campfire Show is held nightly if weather permits." from allears Sometime in January you can find a calendar of what movies are playing in a sticky at the top of the DIS's Camping at Disney forum (Angie and Dennis should be pros over there by then, lol) Read more about overlooked resort stuff here.

Pj

That campfire and movie sounds like SO much fun!! Especially if we can share it with Geeks!

I figure that getting the 10 day passes saves us money in the long run because they are going to last us a few years and we won't have to deal with the price increases. Also, with this deal we are paying around $250 less for them than we would at underground tourist with the MS link...which is already less than Disney's price. The last ones lasted us from June 2004 to August 2008 so it ends up working out in the long run. :)

We bought 10 day hoppers a few years ago even though we did not need them at the time. The price was going up and so I went ahead and got them. We used one day of the passes last year. We still have 9 days left. At least two more trips for us. I think that is the best deal we have ever gotten! :thumbsup2

It just occured to me tonight that we are saving a little bit more money by getting the 10 day passes now. The next time we will probably go is after the WB TA in 10/10 when K will also be 10 yo. Now she will be able to turn this 10 day pass in for an adult pass for the balance. :)

Angie, yes, you would send them an e-mail with the website address of your blog. The writer of the blog get to moderate comments, and wordpress sends you an e-mail when someone comments on a post, I got one for your comment. My fingers are crossed on the DLP wish.

Pj

Joy, how is the photo business going?

Thanks for asking John! It's stinkin' busy right now... I've got one more holiday session and then I am done for 2008! I'm trying to wrap up post processing on 3 sessions while getting ready for Thanksgiving AND packing for our trip... ugh! Don't even ask me about Christmas shopping....

Safe travels to all our geek friends traveling this week and we hope that you are able to find in your hearts things in your life to be thankful for no matter how difficult this past year has been. I for one am thankful for the friends we have made here, the incredible experiences we have shared with dear friends over the years and the times that we will share together in the future.
