:confused3 The 2/18 cruisers are so quiet.. not like my fellow December Magic cruisers... ::yes::

Hope all is well with all of you... it's hard keeping up with two live threads, but I gotta say, this is the thread with ALL the personality!

The cookies also move fast around here when they fill up the pantry, unfortunately, my main supplier (a sister of one of DS's friends) has grown out of girl scouts, so what will I do??? Have to find another supplier somewhere.

If you need cookies, you can usually go to your nearest council office and buy them directly, then the money will go towards camperships for girls to go to Girl Scout Camp. :)

Which is why I added "Saving the best for last" to the shirt. :)

John, DH is in Rockville, MD right near the metro stop. Hmm...I think that is the weekend that he is going to try to come home. No guarantees though. He will be returning that Sunday...though his comments about the traffic tonight weren't good. 6 1/2 hours. The hotel that was suppose to have his apartment ready called to tell him that he couldn't move in tonight so now he has to unload the car tomorrow after his first day at work. :( They are putting him up at a hotel tonight but that isn't going to help him tomorrow.

I have only driven through DC once, when I was much younger, and not as experienced - once was ENOUGH. That has to be one of the worst towns in the East to drive through, around, or near. That's why I fly in, and take the Metro from Reagan Airport. There is also a Metro stop right at the hotel that I am staying at. Hopefully Mike will get home that weekend - I bet he and the kids would enjoy that more! Just volunteering to keep him company for a while if he gets bored.

Last year DS came with me on this trip, and toured DC on his own one day while I was in the conference. He had a great time. I was thinking about trying to get to one of the Smithsonian Museums if I have any time, but DS told me the best and most moving museum he went to was the Holocaust museum.

Stacie, thanks for the advice on the cookies. The council office (Great Trail Council here in OH) is about 5 minutes from our house, so I will do that!

John

That would be an amazing place to go I am sure. I don't think that the kids are ready for that however. We will go for a long weekend in Feb & then 8 days in April for spring break. I want to take them to the natural history & space museums. DS also wants to see where GB lives...yes he pointed to the white house & said who lives there :)...and the Washington Monument. I was in high school the last time I spent any time up there so I know that alot has changed. Once DH helps me learn the ropes of the metro, and I get another umbrella stroller to attach to the one we have, I should be ok on my own with the kids. We will skip the zoo though. We went there a few years ago & I was not impressed. :( I am going to find the kids a book about DC on their level so that we can read all about the monuments & the people & events that they represent. DS is like a sponge so I think that will let him enjoy the trip even more.

Lisa,

The Metro is really easy to get around on. One thing I suggest you do that I did not mention, is to call your local Congressman before you go and see what they can do for you. Ours got us tickets to several things when we went, like the bureau of engraving, and the Supreme Court. He also had one of his aides give us a tour of the Capital, and we rode the subway that the Congressmen ride (no big deal, believe me) between the Capital and their offices. They can even get you tickets to tour the White House, but I heard since 9/11 you have to go through a security check at least 6 mos in advance.

If you get a chance to see any of the other monuments, Lincoln, Jefferson, and FDR are really neat. One of the most moving for me was the new WWII memorial, since my dad and all my uncles were a part of the service in that war. You may already be aware, but just in case you did not know, admission to museums like the Smithsonian is free - you just have to pay if you do things like iMax films, etc.

I bet William will really have a great and educational time. Have fun!

We actually have a flavor of ice cream here called "Girl Scout Thin Mint" DW came home with a container of it the other night - it is a chocolate mint Ice Cream with pieces of the thin mint in it by Edy's. I only allow myself ice cream about once a week anymore, and it is a sore temptation.

John-Thin Mints is my favorite GS cookie and we also have that very same ice cream flavor here in CA. The brand here is Dreyer's which is the same of Edy's (why they have an east and west coast name I'll never know). Anyway, I love that ice cream flavor but I cannot buy it because, like the cookies, I'll INHALE it in a moment! I have ZERO willpower, what can I say, at least I know it!

Lisa W. with thin mints on her mind!

Your talk of DC brings back wonderful memories. I spent 4 days there on my own at a conference a few years ago. I had the chance to go to another a couple of years later and Dennis went with me. We went 3 days early and did some touring in northern VA and went to Gettysburg before exploring the city. I don't even eat dinner when I am there during conferences because I don't want to waste the time in the evening sitting in a restaurant. I just grab a hotdog from one of the street vendors and go exploring. Wow. What an amazing place and I LOVE the metro. $1.10 and 20 minutes from downtown to Reagan National! Well, the price might have gone up as it has been about 4 years. But it was really slick! Dennis is a VietNam vet, so that memorial was very moving for us and his dad was Korean War vet so we made sure to see that one too. I love the Korean memorial, the eyes of the statues follow you as you walk past and they are really haunting. Of course, working for the VA Hospital I am partial to all things veteran. We too had a Congressional Tour of Mount Vernon and Dennis was chosen to lay the weath on George Washington's grave because he is a veteran. He was very awed by that experience...the first General. Arlington Cemetary was my absolute favorite place. It is very peaceful and the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown was amazing. That was one of my favorite cities that we have visited. The WWII memorial was built after our visit. Can't wait to retire and go spend more time there. OK, enough from me on that topic. I can go on for hours.

We have not heard from Jordan in a couple of days. I was wondering about him today also.

:rotfl: Wow you guys are late nighters! I work all night on Mon. and Tues. what are your excuses for being up! :rotfl:

Yo. Here I be. Sorry I haven't been posting in a few days. I've been relatively busy the last few days. Another one of my many cousins came home from a short term mission and her daughter had a birthday party on Saturday. I was there pretty much all day/night.

Sunday--Church and football.

MLK day--Getting my AP at Disneyland and hanging with WendyO and her DD at DCA.

Ducks lose AGAIN......

I'm back to wreak havoc on the thread.

Karen, sorry about the paint fiasco. Good save with the Old English.

Girl Scout Cookies---Samoas that's all I will say.

Lisa, sorry that Mike's gone now.... :sad1:

My experience with DC came in one 4 hour whirlwind tour when I was in MD for a friend's wedding. Would love to go again. I have many friends who now live in the area. I have a friend who is a reporter now for the Washington Post.

Neither DL or DCA was that crowded for a holiday. Although we did wait an hour for the new Monster's Inc ride. It is a great dark ride for kiddies and adults; don't know if I would wait an hour again.

Nice to finally have my AP again since I live so close.

So jealous... I have to wait 10 months before I get to see the new Monsters ride...

I did get to go on Everest though...so I guess I shouldn't complain, and I am cruising again in 33 days!
