But the weird thing is, I believe there were only 12 or so reported cases of someone dying from a stingray. But this guy hasn't dies, so maybe there are more occurances than we think. KWIM?

:sad2: And somehow we have been convinced that it is the food at WDW that has made our children obese. One of our elementary schools does not allow running either.

At DS's school they have cut recess to only 15 minutes a day and he only has PE once a week. How do they expect children to get the required amount of daily physical activity if they cut it so drastically? :sad2:

Actually Becka i'm surprised they let her be there the day after you got the medicine. I think the standard for pinkeye is three days off after medicine is given. Pinkeye is so contagious...

I know when Devon was little i worried all the time about other children infecting Devon. (she got sick easily then and had that infantile asthma.)

My worries were justified when dd was 5 and got lice from children in her school and daycare whose parent never notified the school or daycare of their condition and kept sending them.

You may want to have the doctor give you a second prescription/bottle for the other eye since it can spread from eye to the other by even accidently touching the tip. (Or that's what my dr told me when i had it a couple years ago. Luckily only one of my eyes was infected but they did say if the other eye got it that they wanted med droppers(bottles) to be seperate.

:grouphug:

The daycare said 24 hours and not showing any symptoms. :confused3 Her eyes were clear yesterday morning and she was on the antibiotics so she was fine.

I am not trying to intentionally expose the other kids to getting pinkeye but I also don't want us to miss any more work than we have to if the doctor and daycare say she is cleared to go back.

That's okay - my boys wear uniforms. They often wear each others clothes and sometimes it is hard for me to get clothes in the right room/closet. Well, this AM, my oldest DS actually asked if I would buy him new pants since you could "see my skin" sticking out of the pants.

Keep in mind...this is the child with the great timing on providing information.. when he said this we were in the car on the way to school.

As they got out of the van, my jaw dropped...this kid had the worse case of high water pants on that I've ever seen. Clearly he was wearing his brother's pants.

:sad2:

okay - i'm a bad mom!

I am sorry but for some reason this has me :rotfl: !

Giona also eats poorly. and Jaea eats everything including sushi and many foods that I don't even eat.

Giona lives on carbs which I think is very bad - too much sugar. He eats pasta, bread. milk and yogurt. We talk about the 5 a day all the time and sometimes I can get him to eat one fruit or vegetable.

I can't really figure it out. Some of it is laziness, he has some issues with texture. and he also does not like his plate too crowded or too many choices.
He seems to function better with this narrower group of choices.

He was sick for several weeks over the summer and lost several pounds and we just can't get it back on. Before he got sick, I found that gap 5 slim pants fit him and now even those are too big in the waist and he will be 6 in Jan. He is wearing too short size 4 pants which he doesn't even have to unsnap to get on.

I talked to his dr. about it but you can tell their training includes nothing about nutrition. She suggested asparagus because it is sweet. I would really like to do something because I feel it will improve his overall health, stamina and performance at school.

It's very stressful because the rest of us like ethnic foods but his diet is so bland we end up not eating what we want to.

We have struggled with Jackson's weight too. He is almost 5 and he's finally gaining a little weight but still very skinny in the waist... the adjustable weight pants at Gap and Children's Place are the only thing he can wear. He was a chubby little baby but at 18 months he had to take some medicines that turned him off eating.. he would only eat crackers after that. He wouldn't drink milk, formula, or any of the ensure stuff, no juice, no meat, fruit or veg. No yogurt even which he had loved previously! We were worried he was going to waste away and nutritionists weren't helping. Finally his pediatrician said "cheeze whiz". We started putting it on crackers, bread, anything. I would never have purchased this on my own, I don't even consider it a real food, but it does have calcium and protein.

Now he eats a lot more, he has to try 3 bites of dinner or it will appear again at breakfast. About 3/4 of the time once he tries something he declares it a "double thumbs up good".

When I went to pick up DD I decided to see if DS would also like to come home. I guess I was either being nice or crazy! I am trying to log on to the mainframe from here at home and I am getting server errors. That means I need to call tech support but there is no way I will be able to talk to them until DD takes her nap so I guess no work for a little bit longer.

Do you guys know what time the 80's night dance party starts? I still have some flounders time left and I think I will reserve some time that night.

I think I read it starts at 11pm. I wish it were earlier though. I'm worried my kids will be tired and won't want to be in the club that late but I really want to go to the 80s night.

Lighthouse Point man stabbed in chest by stingray

ASSOCIATED PRESS

LIGHTHOUSE POINT -- A man was in critical condition Thursday morning, a day after a stingray jumped onto his boat and stabbed him in the chest, leaving a foot-long barb stuck in him, authorities said.

James Bertakis, 81, of Lighthouse Point, was boating with his grown granddaughter and her friend Wednesday afternoon when the rare attack occurred. The woman were able to steer the boat back to Bertakis' home where they called authorities.

"It was a freak accident," said Lighthouse Point acting fire Chief David Donzella. "It's very odd that the thing jumped out of the water and stung him. We still can't believe it."

Bertakis was conscious when paramedics arrived. Surgeons were able to remove some of the barb, but were not able to locate the rest and feared it may have migrated. Bertakis suffered a closed chest wound, collapsed lung and may have to undergo open-heart surgery, rescue officials said.

The roughly 5-foot wide, 30 pound stingray died on the boat, firefighters said. They kept it in a plastic bag and on ice until Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Officers picked it up, Sullivan said.

Ellen Pikitch, a professor of marine biology and fisheries at the University of Miami, who has been studying stingrays for decades, said the fish are generally docile creatures.

"Something like this is really, really extraordinarily rare," she said. "I've never heard any reports of a stingray attacking a person. Even when they are under duress, they don't usually attack."

"Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, 44, died Sept. 4 when a stingray's barb pierced his chest while he filmed a TV show on the Great Barrier Reef.

How weird is that? I don't think I have ever seen a stingray "jump" completely out of the water.

What's the deal with stingray's getting all psycho lately?

I'm feeling pretty confident in my decision to not book the stingray excursion now.

Ah guess that 'splains it..... The daycare DD was in when she was really little was very picky and made them go home at any little thing.... Like they'd call me at work and say she had a temp. I'd leave work and get there and she'd be fine and happy as a lark...They drove me nuts....

But don't worry Becka....This too shall pass......

No stingrays here either.....

I'm still good with the dolphin gnaw your arm off .....

Which ones did you get?
Jasmine, Mulan and Pocahontas.

The stingray incidents are pretty freak accidents. I highly doubt anything like that would happen on the CC excursion. Also, there are much more dangerous things out in that water. ;)

I used to be pretty fearless when going out in the ocean. We would swim pretty far out to a sandbar. Then I saw aerial pictures of our beaches and you should have see the schools of sharks! (not sure if schools apply to sharks as well) I'll still go out there but am constantly aware of my surroundings.

As kids we did the same thing V but at the Jersey Shore. (My aunt lived two blocks from the beach so DGP's took us "down" there once a week.)

I remember going way out. Every once and awhile they would get nurse sharks or there'd by stinging jellies....

Scares the heck out of me now... I'm quite happy with TL or BB wave pools...

DH's cousin's boyfriend was stung by a stingray once on his leg. Said it was the worst pain he'd ever experienced.
